Hi, I don't know whether this thread will stay open long enough, but I'm fed up with the idiot who runs the mailbag at Nintendojo. I swear that he's another Matt Casamassina. He thinks that revealing the console a full year in advance is good marketing. Come on, what does expect, a silk purse? I think he's been smoking too many exhaust fumes to tell anyone what they should do with their product. He goes on this ego trip about Nintendo being too secretive about their products. Doesn't this guy see all the progress Nintendo has been making? Does he need to be hit in the head with a sledgehammer in order realize that Nintendo has changed?
Nintendo has done far more to "hype" Revolution, than they have with their past two consoles, but people like this ignore it, and make cheap shots to score points with their perceived "audience". And what does Miyamoto's position on the executive board have to do with his making of games, anyway? Did it not occur to him that they MIGHT have pulled back some of those "new" franchises in order to create a big splash for this next generation? I'm not against criticism, as long as its fair, but this guy pulls this kind of stunt off every two or three weeks, and its tiresome. Anyway, I'm just venting my frustration. If you feel the same way about these kinds of things, as I do, be sure to drop our boy Jeremy a line, will you? :dur:

Ah Jeremy, what happened?
It isn't Miyamoto that lost Silicon Knights. You should know that. You also claim tha tNintendo focuses on Japan too much but didn't they launch the DS in the US first? They are also a Japanese company that works on Japanese hardware and software, writes Japanese code and adds in Japanese text. It kinda makes sense that they would focus on the homefront just a little.
I could go on but why?

I find that to be really unprofessional journalism. He's joining the "OMG Nintendo is teh doumedddddd" bandwagon. He's going on about how Miyamoto's is ruining Nintendo and bla bla bla. He should wait for these "short" games to come out before blasting Nintendo.
I predict that Nintendo has been doing this kind of strategy in order to see how it plays out in the gaming community. Remember how Nintendo said that they closely watched the internet for opinions back when they said that they didn't think better technology is the best step (which again caused alot of "OMG Nintendo is teh doummedddd" thing).
As for Yoshi touch & Go and Wario Ware, yes they're short and some may perceive them as lazy and all that, but they were meant to be quick launch titles. Did Jeremy not see the plethora of awe-inspiring DS games ? It's that lineup that convinced me to get my DS, not Youshi Touch & Go. That's proof that Nintendo isn't actually going to waste all it's ressources on "lazy" games (not to mention much of the Gamecube games on display).
I think in order to remain professional, Jeremy should just wait for these "lazy" games to come out and then judge them. It's too early to tell where Nintendo is actually headed and I don't think we need any more self-proclaimed game market analysts, especially if they're going to start judging the Revolution one year before it comes out, when the Xbox 360 is supposedly coming out in November, even though its specs aren't finalized either.

To be fair to the guy, he's in a region(Australia) where Nintendo is dead last by a country mile. But that's not much of an excuse. It's not like this is the first time that this sort of thing has happened either. He will often make these sorts of idiotic statements when no one will challenge him. On the flipside, he will post letters contrary to his point of view, but I rarely see that happen. It takes a lot of gall for him to say those sorts of things in the mailbag, and it shows. What really gets me it is his Casamassinesque(okay not technically a word) spin on things. He takes many of the things like the Iwata comments out of context(I saw him reply to an email on this a few weeks ago), and he gets away with it. I mean, it doesn't take all that much effort to find out his true statements in context. It seems as if he doesn't get his share of gaming news from his own page or he wouldn't do things like that. I mean, c'mon, would it hurt for the dojo's chief rep to do a little research before he comments? Anyway, that's part of the reason why I posted this here instead of in his mailbag, because my blood pressure would go through the roof if I tried to. A letter to Jeremy would be to me like writing a letter to Mama Cass- wasted effort. Like Viper said, what's the point?
And bloodman, friend, you get the blue ribbon for that comment. You should be working for Gamespot(making up polls, that is). :1337:

Whoa, I'm not touching that with a ten foot pole!
By the by, sorry, Lynk, didn't mean to step on your toes. Incidentally, I've always wanted to visit Australia, it seems like a beautiful place. What part are you from?

Nintendo has done a great job at all they do. They sell affordable consoles with nice games. I spent 2 days playing Resident Evil 4 and I think it looks better than shots of Xbox 360 I have seen. They took a machine with a decent amount of power and made a great game without taxing the system too much. They even made money on hardware which sony or microsoft didn't make.
Nintendo's move at E3 was ingenius. They didn't show you the whole thing and then made you wait 6 months for it, They showed you a small part of the machine and kept the hype going. They showed off less and created much more hype. I am more excitied about revolution than either PS3 or Xbox 360. Nintendo has a great market plan going and with all of their hype they may will win this generation. Nintendo is infact a generation ahead in thinking. Think about. What happens after Xbox 360 and PS3. Their isnt much more graphical capibility and multimedia applications wont matter much more. Wow a 10 Ghz machine so impressive but what system needs that kind of power. It is outrageous. And the fact is if you read most gaming mags or articles they are biased toward nintendo because They show only what casuals want to see and They dont want to see nintendo they want to see Ps2 and Xbox 360.
In conclusion nintendo knows what they are doing and The hype proves it. Also I love my DS and I have had it since launch. And the reason I love it is because it is fun.

Scroll down to the fifth letter and you'll find it. Its the one that starts off by slagging NintendoNow.Just so you know, he's talking about Nintendo now, as in the present, and not our site.
And guys, please use well-spaced paragraphs, there's nothing that makes me want to skip over a post more than a big block of text. Well, maybe all capitals is worse..
This could also be right where Nintendo fails. I truly believe the industry can stand for one more graphical improvement before the majority of people become tired of games. Until I hear more comments that say "Wow, I wonder what sweet enhancements Killzone 2 will bring to the FPS genre," compared to "Wow, that guy is so realistic looking, I can't wait to see how awesome the graphics are going to be," I'm not so sure the industry as a whole wants drastic change.
Sure, you can find a couple dozen editors and a couple thousand online users that may want a completely new way of playing, but if you think about the consumers that drive the industry - your average person going into Best Buy or Media Play to buy a game - shock value still sways them the most.

But there still is going to be less of an impact this generation, than there was in the last. Can you honestly say people are going to be as wowed now as the were when Gamecube was introduced. Simply put, Nintendo can't afford not to do what they're about to do, or they risk become redundant.

Can you honestly say people are going to be as wowed now as the were when GameCube was introduced.Yes, I can because I have heard it. Your average [casual] gamer Joe upon seeing an in-store video display of Halo 3 or Metal Gear Solid 4 will slowly drop his jaw and his mouth will begin to salivate. I know the reaction to the Xbox 360 [Read: MTV Special] was pretty harsh, but there were still a few games that made people go , "Wow, I'm so buying this console so I can play [Gears of War, Killzone 2]." Plus, this is only the first slew of games for the console, and many more pretty titles will pop up closer to launch of each system respectively.
Maybe I'll be wrong, maybe gamers will start to see through the graphical eye candy, but I've got a very bad feeling that they won't until at least halfway [or more] into next generation.
We keep bumping into eachother, don't we? Heh.

People will ALWAYS be impressed by good graphics, no matter what. My point is that it won't matter as much without good gameplay. I think you are right, though that people are too easily impressed.
