I heard about this many days ago. I am actually surprised but I think they did the right thing. The pros out do the cons by far.
Also, XBOX ditches Intel and takes IBM, Apple ditches IBM and takes Intel......was there a trade. lol.

Interesting read, don't know if all of that is really that plausable, but who knows. I do agree with Apple losing sales because of this. I'm heading to college next semester and I've been searching for a powerful laptop (2,000-2,500 range) that should be able to last all four years, and the fact that next year Apple'll be going Intel sort of cements my decision against a Mac (although even without this announcement I likely wouldn't have gotten one anyway). Oh well, I guess my first Mac'll have to wait until after college in 2009/2010, unless Longhorn really steps up a notch or ten.

Its interesting but I still think Apple should look more into their disadvantages compared to a PC.

I am a huge Mac fan - at my last job I had a 17" Powerbook with 1GB RAM, DVD Burner, the whole shebang. Sadly I had to give it back when I quit but MAN what a system.
Took a while to get used to the Mac way of doing things but I have to say I think they are way better than PC's in nearly every regard. One thing that is hampering their growth is their elitist attitude towards software distribution. it's hard to find software for a Mac whereas PC's are a dime a dozen. People = cheap and available (like Dork's dates hahaha). If they had Mac Minis were in WalMart along with the bargain basement crap they usually see (computer wise anyhow - not knocking the big W) I think they would see a bog boost because people could see and touch one instead of hearing about it.
Currently you have to order online, go to an Apple store or visit a friend's house or college to see a Mac in action. Apple needs to get more aggressive with getting their products in the consumer's eye and keeping it there - only then will they live up to their potential as a system.

Well, if Apple had any software whatsoever(has improved but still) and have a cheaper price their marketshare would increase. Their Marketshare will increase because of the iPOD but that doesn't count.
Also if they do away with those Hippy, liberal shit words in their OS like finder and chooser.

Your decision for getting a Mac would be void anyways if you wanted to only spend that much. While $2,000-2,500 would get you a damn nice PC laptop you'd only get a semi-decent Mac for the same price.
