If sony does make 2 types of PS3, what type are you gonna get? personally i like the all features type over the gaming only.

sce wanted gaming only, sony wanted full features. Which bandwagon are you on?

I heard that the PS3 will inclue a 120GB HDD, a some kind of tv tuner (hopefull linkable to sky) The Cd drive will featre a burner on most formats. (its basically the 2004 PSX). Does anyone know, is this all true?

That would actually be a genius of an idea. People can have a choice of multi-entertainment or gaming only- Nintendo's wish. There is one problem though. What if the person who bought gaming only changed his mind and decided to go online. He would have to buy a new, even more expesive PS3.

When I saw the topic I thought that that would be a tad stupid.

What would be the point?

If you were to give someone the option of two PS3's and one of them was to be cheaper, they would most probably go for the cheaper one and make do with what they have.

If you give them just one option then they're going to buy it no matter what.

From what we can tell, there will only be one PS3 and it will be a stand-alone console. It would be far to costly for Sony to make two PS3's, infact it would prove to be rather stupid to do so.

Not really you see if Sony gave an option it would stopp people from complainting about the price....If the all-in-one come out with a $400+
price tag evrybody that wants just to game could get the $250-299 model and get the other upgrades down the road.....it was in one of the psm mags as a rumor that Sony is heavily considering Two verisons.

Exactly. No one will want to think that they've bought the "cheapo" version of the PS3, they'l want the one with everything.

Where did the idea of 2 versions come from anyway?

i'll deffinitly put the extra cash into the full version of the Ps3. it woudl eleminate the cost for a DVD player, TiVo, Stereo, and Computer (which i'll still plan on having just becuz im addicted to FPS on my PC)

this idea has been brought up by sony since right after they brought out the ps1, so they intended to have 2 different ps2's one with all those addon's that we've been buying all these years and one a standalone console, sony wanted it but sce didnt.

Two PS3s makes perfect sense to me.

They can sell the cheap version at a loss, like they do every console when it comes out. This will give them market penetration on the cheap.

They then also sell the expensive full blown version for a profit, thereby negating the loss they take on the cheap version. And even if its not perfectly negated, an expensive PS3 will still help recoop those losses.

This leaves Sony with two more choices: reap in huge profits because game royalties won't need to cover the console's loss -or- sell games to the consumers for less $$ for competition sake. I figure the first option is more likely, but if game companies don't have to give money to Sony for royalties, then more games get produced for PS3 vs competing consoles.

Strategically it makes sense that the PSX was basically a practice full-version-PS3. They used the PSX to work all the bugs out and find out which features ppl want.

No one wants to have the cheap version, but there will be plenty of people who can't afford the expensive one. And even others who don't need it because they have all the extra features the expensive PS3 will offer in products they already own.

Gaming only. If i wanted all features i would get a PC. As i see it, PlayStation means games to me.

personally I would get the PS3 with all the extras. 200 extra bones is worth it if it really has all that stuff in it. and it better, after the psx debacle. Sony can bring it one man! :P

Wouldn't it be better to just make one whole thing, as not all people have a very good sense of all the functions and one console would make them less confused.

If you don't have much money and just want to play games, videos and music, then go for the PlayStation 3. I'f you're loaded, want broadband TV, recording, web access and all that shit too, then go for the PS3+.

Nick americans would still complain that the cheap one is 2 expensive as they seem to think $500 is a lot for a console

I know for me i would get the $500 PS3 for sure if that was the price.

We Americans wouldnt mind paying that much for a state of the art gaming machine and Tivo recording. :D

yea but Nick was saying the cheap 1 will cost £300 which is $500 roughly and it doesnt have any tivo functions
but knowing our luck things in gaming are always more expensive over here so how ever much it is in $ it will prob be in £
