This thread is a poll to keep a tally of people who have their PS2's online on this forum. I just got myself a network adapter and some games (for Xmas). Also, what is the first game that you played on your PS2 online? Mine was Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 (on a friend's PS2).
*poll ends on New Year's Day*

Don't have the money to buy a network card/new modem for my pc. Why couldn't bloody aol put an ethernet socket on the modem........
I haven't got one at the moment, and I don't know if I will get one or not, even if ADSL is made available around here.
There isn't really anything that I'd want to play on it at the moment.

I got a Network Adapter.
As for dial-up users, I believe there games (like SOCOM 2) which require a broadband connection coming out.

Yea, that's a bit extreme there dude. Just lay back on the berating, he just wanted something to call the PS2 online other than the "Network Adapter-abled PS2".
I just call it playstation live. I know its not the real name of it but , just sounds good.
Its still the same meaning so just chill it. Its not like everyone calls everything by its real name.

Hey, i was wonderin if anybody knows how online communication is gonna work with MMORPGs using the ps2 network adapter. In other words how will ps2 users communicate to PC users?

Okay, why don't you say whats wrong with it instead of just sitting there smirking?
My aol modem does not have an ethernet socket on it. It is a bloody USB, this means it will not hook up to my PS2.
So far the only way I have worked out, from the net, to conect my PS2 is to put a network card in my PC to get it up and running.
If you know a better way I would love to hear it.
And what sort of pointless post is "I agree with you all the way GodZeRo"
Was it even worth typeing??????

Ok, since no one else wants to help this guy out, I will. I understand what you are saying, but helping this guy now will prevent future confusion.
1) You don't have to buy a new network card for your PC to use the network on your PS2. After the connection goes into your rooter, it comes out and goes to your PC. What you could do is take that connection out of your PC and connect that to the Broadband Adapter of the PS2. Usually, the cable coming out of the rooter is Cat-5 and then converted to USB (if you have it connected to your computer that way). That Cat-5 cable is the one that would go directly to the PS2. If it for some reason comes out of the rooter USB, then you can buy a converter to get it back to Cat-5.
2) AOL did not make your modem. The modem came with your computer when you purchased it. I assume you are talking about the rooter, which they didn't make either - they just supplied it to you.

cloud and titus: Do you have a 56k analog modem, DSL modem, cable modem, or other?
If you have 56k, you're out of luck. 56k modems are slow nomatter what you do, how you connect, ect. That's the tradoff for low cost sevice.
If you have one of the others, a simple converter will work for you.

oh right england woops i should of looked
umm try currys or pc world
funny enough im going out looking around all sorts of shops over the weekend to get 1
if i find a chain of shops that sells em il tell u
I know for a fact all you need is the USB to Ethernet converter cord, sorry I don't live in England so I couldn't tell ya where to go to get one, but I am almost 100% sure it works because I have a friend that has USB dsl and his works with the converter.
As for the PS2 Online, it really doesn't have much to it. The lag is almost always present except for in THUG, and the whole online portion has not really done overly well for the PS2. Xbox Live is by far a better service and although it costs the features are definatley there to back it up. Hopefully we see some improvements in the Online menu's for the PS2 games, which aren't all that great right now!
Maybe when BT finally decide to let us have ADSL in our area, I can finally kick you arse at something. :D

I'm sorry for being a dumb american, but "stupid prat in the funny hat" is not in my dictionary. Sounds like it ain't good though.
I haven't tested it, but my guess is that it will be a headache, so take some asprin first, then plug it in. I'm tring to put together my WiFi network right now, and I ripped out half my hair (working now, that's how I'm online)
EDIT: ps: I was just playing with ya, if I find info on converter, I will let u know.

Cloud and titus: some more info for you:
USB to ethernet converters can only go from USB on computer the ethernet, not other way around, so you have to install ethernet card on your computer and hookup with a crossover cable to the PS2, setting up software routing/gateway on computer (not sure how, I allways use hardware routers), but the computer has to be booted for the communications to work.

Wells its gotten off topic but people are getting helped so its cool. Ummm as for am I online Yes! Man love Need for Speed that game kicks some major ass and the graphics are the best of any racer I have player, and un-like GTA4 it has realistic blur when your going fast. Also have mic to go with Socom 2 that fun too. I can't wait for the FF:XI read up on it and its going the best online RPG to date I think even better then PSO, which makes me want to express my hatred to Sega for leaving PS2 out of PSO fun while Xbox and Gamecube get it. I think they were venting some anger about losing in the console wars. If that’s the case they weren't thinking of people like me, I'm a huge DC fan but with DC US PSO servers gone what the hell im going to do im not buying another system just to play it. But I might get a import version from UK for DC which Ver. 2 is free over there!... ok im shutting up now its Christmas! Anyone got anything good I did

O man that sucks, how did it get broken?Let me just say, don't let anyone accidentally insert the phone line in the cat5 socket. Bad things happen when someone tries to call you.
PS: when your phone rings, it's because the phone co. put 90vac in the wire to activate the ringer... bad bad

If the other games work then yeah, FF11 will work. Just remember that, unlike other online PS2 games, FF11 needs the hard drive.

I should be getting a Network Adapter in a few weeks along with my ADSL connection. Which is also handy as SOCOM II is being released at the same time. :)

DO you people have cable modems over there in the UK? Just wondering
Most people in this country have ADSL, or Broadband, whatever you want to call it.
