YES, as it was announced by Sony.

recent photos

I've only seen one "real" prototype pic Sony released for their PSP wich covers the back and front.
Where did you see another "real one".
I'll tell ya, ..............in your dreams maybe?

And as the name says, prototype...

Yes of course I would want analog sticks on the PSP. No other way to play 3D games then with analog sticks.

Sony did say there will be one analog stick. Personally, since I am a FPS fan, I would injoy it more if there were two analog sticks. In any case, do you think that the little circle inside the direction pad can actually pop up as a mini analog stick? Or am I too hyped?

I don't think that Sony is going to put 2 analog sticks on the PSP just for the FPS. It does sound very interesting though, maybe a small analog lever, for menu's or for acceleration in race games, would be nice.

The official playstation 2 mag (the uk one anyway) makes mock ups to give you an idea of what they think it will look like! No one has seen the real thing......READ THE FULL PAGE! IT WILL ALLWAYS SAY IT ISN'T REAL!

I think it'd be nice, especially for racing/fighting/any games where you have to walk around like maybe a fully 3D final fantasy game, it'd add a nice feel to it...

Ok think of it like this ok you have analog on the PSP and you deside to stick it in your pocket since its small...o wait you cant because there are annoying analog sticks stabing your leg if you manage to get it in your pocket. So i think that there will not be analog cause of the difficuly of making it an accual "portable" if you really can stick it in your pocket :D

the analog stick could retract into the system, and snap into place. my only concern is that they might be stupid and put it on the same side as the d-pad. (hence no good first person shooters)

ok if the anaglog retracts what if it retract while your playing? i really dont think it will have a analog stick unless its like the laptop mouse thingy like the eraser type or that screen thingy could work as an analog

They could have a screw-hole so that you could put the analog stick into the middle of the digital pad. Although there is the chance of misplacing the analog stick.

then how would you play fps games?

it could have like just the sphere part of the analog stick in the psp, with (instead of a full stick) a rubber pad about a mm thick on the top.

THATS A BRILLIANT IDEA. that would make it soo much easier to controll aiming.

personnally, i hate aiming with buttons or stick, its not impossible, its just time wasting to me, and its hard to feel how much your actually moving it. if they made a ball thing u could easily controll it as much as you want and,,, well. i like it :D . im used to PC game Counter Strike ( using mouse) and i think it would be great to have a ball :D well done. ur a smart man :)

It could retract when the console is being turned off..if you don't want to turn off the console and you want to put it in your pocket then that's your problem, not sony's. lol

I always found those "screw your stick into this d-pad and we'll call it analog" things really really cheesy. The last time I saw was for the gameboy color, it was ubercheesy. I don't think a next-gen handheld like the PSP will need to have something like that. I'm sure sony could get the retractable joystick to work.

or they could have an actually analog similiar to the Ps2 controller that would be a "push in, pop out" type thingy.

u dont really need a retractor if u want analouge. if there is a hole in the psp, the analouge can be in the center. but think about it. do we really want analouge? wouldnt u rather a ball, like mouse thing? i know i would. analouge and directional keypad is nearly the same thing. ball is different in many ways ;)

analog stick thats sweet

about poking your leg while in your pocket i think their i ways around that
like having a flat analog or something similar to that

like the ideas up their

neptunez
03-10-2004, 04:16 AM
oh having a concave around the analog stick. (like a small ditch)

so it would be easy to maneuver without having it stick out.

no need for any retraction mechanism.

yes, i was thinking something along those lines. wow, i am really bad at conveying thoughts.

like I said earlier.

concave solution.

gamingmonkey2004
03-12-2004, 10:47 PM
yeah that concave thing is a good idea too cause i think the "retracting when turned off" will be extra things that are not worth paying for everything seems good to us but then what will sony think?

KlawHammer
03-12-2004, 11:02 PM
Concave solution has its benefits.

gamingmonkey2004
03-12-2004, 11:03 PM
we know the benefits but what are the disavantages?

KlawHammer
03-12-2004, 11:05 PM
I dont think they are any disadvatages.

Kiwi
03-12-2004, 11:06 PM
Maybe it's just that drawing, but the movement of the stick looks quite restricted.

gamingmonkey2004
03-12-2004, 11:07 PM
Concave solution has its benefits.
then what was the point of saying that if there was nothing bad about them? concave is a good idea but will Sony use it is the real question?

KlawHammer
03-12-2004, 11:08 PM
Most likely.

gamingmonkey2004
03-12-2004, 11:10 PM
sorry omega but im going to have to copy you
do you work at Sony and overseeing that there is a concave on the PSP? no i dont think so but if you do get me a discount on my PSP

KlawHammer
03-12-2004, 11:12 PM
Lol. i wonder if they'l even have sticks.

gamingmonkey2004
03-12-2004, 11:15 PM
thats what we wre diliberating and we were thinking about the concave idea so that the analog stick isnt poking out

neptunez
03-13-2004, 08:19 AM
if you need more space just widen the space around it.

or they could go for a neo geo type analog stick.
Though I'm not sure why snk added an analog type control
when all of their games were 2d.

http://image.lik-sang.com/images//large/neogeopocket2.jpg

I might pick one of these up, they're only $15 with some decent fighting games from capcom (capcom vs. snk, samurai showdown etc...)

ultimategamer2004

I think the concave is the solution but the movent of the stick could be restricted i would go with either the concave solution or a screw in stick.
MY 150TH POST.

but what if you were to lose the stick you wouldn't be able to play the handheld because you wouldn't have a control stick.

or like if it was built in and all you have to do is like screw it 1 way for it to come out and another way for it to go in i like what if you fogot to screw it back in or like you dropped it then it would break or you could like screw it in to much and it wouldn't ever come out.

but what i think would be really innovative is if sony instead of having a power button made the stick a power button. like whenever you want t turn it off you screw the stick in so it will go off like some car radio volume controls how whenever you turn it th stereo shuts off.

i think that would be really innovative and they would be able to have the stick and they wouldn't have to have an extra button or switch. so it would save space.

i wonder if anyone from sony ever reads this so they can take ideas and stuff to sony?

car radios a kinda bigger than the PSP and that retracting thing is a kinda good idea but think of the extra weight for the things needed to make it retract automaticly. maybe they could make it retract and stuff but not automatic you have to pull it out and it like locks in place then you like hit triangle, [ ], O, X to unlock it or something or a button to unlock it but the concave so far is the best idea

NO STUFF SHERLOCK!!!!

I was talking about the same type of thing with the knob. how whenever you turn the knob how the radio goes off.

it wouldn't weight anything because it would be like a joystick/analog stick that TURNED in order to turn the console off/on. like a radio volume knob.

gamingmonkey2004

are you flaming me? i dont think you should because i think that would add weight because of the computer chips and wireing and other things so please stop yelling and calm down. why would you want to twist the analog stick to turn it off. they already annouced that there with be a power turn off button right?

Mitri
03-25-2004, 05:28 PM
they did?

if they already sid that there would be a power switch i didn't know about it. so if you could direct me to where they said that i will leave the subject at rest.

i agree to that, but what about like a mouse ball with flat top and goes back to center and inside system, like this...

Well they could make spare sticks and i must say you have some good ideas about that stick that you screw in and it turns on and so on..
