psx is still a console eh? will i would just like to know the definition of a console then, pecause if you compare a ps2 to a NES, a ps2 seems to do a hell of a lot more, but the ps2 is still a console supposedly by today's standards...you're relying on definitions that are constantly changing and evolving, and maybe sony is trying to move beyond the pure game console perception that people seem to have about the playstation brand, and in turn draw more people towards their product, hence selling MORE ps3 hardware....you can keep living in the past if you want omega, but the fact is the ps3 will probably come in multiple forms, as sony has seemed to be hinting at with the idea that cell processors will be very prevalent in upcoming products, making it likely that implementing ps3 technology in some high end home theatre products, including very expensive tv's for the super rich, will become a likely option...so unless you can come up with a better argument then basically saying "you're idea is stupid", i will move on from this, considering my argument seems to make the most SENSE when considering the market today....anyway, since most of the people on this forum cant think beyond the idea that a ps3 will be nothing but a game machine and lack any vision whatsoever, i will try and limit myself to this very restriced (and increasingly boring due to peoples' close-mindedness) topic in the future

Fine then, PSX is not a console, its a "home entertainment system"that happens to play PS2 games."

even more evidence for you people who think sony would never think of bulding a tv with a built in ps3:
http://www.sonystyle.ca/html/images/pcvv_product_top.jpg
basically its a sony vaio thats a LCD tv, has a dvd/dvd-r drive on the side, and has a sleek all-in-one design...sound familiar? im now even more certain that sony will offer a high-end tv with built-in ps3 hardware and psx type functions...so screw all of you who think sony wouldnt even consider making this type of device, because they already HAVE...god i love it when im right
the URL for the product is: http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/servlet/ProductDetailDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001 &langId=-1&productId=173095
watch the flash movie, it shows the features of the product, and calls it a "media centre"...and btw omega: YOU LOSE

Sony VAIO's are very smart, but also quite expensive.

they might do something like make it do more functions but not in the PS3

all that is is a computer with a big screen ooo.
NickSCFC
03-30-2004, 03:09 AM
Doesn't have a big screen at all.
gamingmonkey2004
03-30-2004, 03:14 AM
well its big enough to watch tv on it..thats not much of anything pretty much all Computers have a CD burner/DVD burner. and just making it big enough and having a cable input on the back isnt that big of a deal. but making something complete all-in-one entertainment center is crazy. cause it would cost alot and making it just for the rich is stupid cause they are either tight with their money and there are very few that would spend thousands of dollars on it. plus for just kids they have to buy a freaking TV to get the Playstation!?
NickSCFC
03-30-2004, 03:18 AM
Crazy? Pretty soon all the big companies like Sony, Microsoft, Philips, Toshiba, Sanyo and JVC wil be producing these "all in one entertainment systems" (which will retail for about £250) and technology such as DVD players, Hi-Fi's and VCR's will be a thing of the past.
gamingmonkey2004
03-30-2004, 03:21 AM
so tell me will it have a PS3, DVD player, VCR, TV, tuner, surround sound, internet ready, HTDV, and some other crap for £250? doubt it. i dont even think that Sony thing would be about £250
NickSCFC
03-30-2004, 03:23 AM
It doesn't need all that stuff! A PC can allready do all that and all it needs is the software to make it easier to use. Most of the big brands have deals with Linux (apart from Microsoft) to develop operating systems for these "all in one" systems.
gamingmonkey2004
03-30-2004, 03:24 AM
what is all in one? what is all in it?
NickSCFC
03-30-2004, 03:26 AM
Basically it's like a PSX. It has a DVD recorder, a hard disc, a TV tuner and broadband connection. It allows you to watch TV, record it, download music and video. Basically it's like a PC but alot more simple and sits under your TV.
gamingmonkey2004
03-30-2004, 03:32 AM
a super TiVo yea big deal its not like its a freaking TV and a PS3
NickSCFC
03-30-2004, 03:34 AM
What the fuck are you on about?
gamingmonkey2004
03-30-2004, 03:37 AM
what? i just think putting a PS3/PSX in a flat screen tv is stupid
NickSCFC
03-30-2004, 03:39 AM
You do know that Sony VAIO is the name given to its PCs and that this latest model just combines the system with a monitor.
gamingmonkey2004
03-30-2004, 03:41 AM
by systems what do you mean? a PSX? and yes i know about VAIO
NickSCFC
03-30-2004, 03:43 AM
No, the new VAIO is a PC and monitor in one.
gamingmonkey2004
03-30-2004, 03:45 AM
really? i usually buy my PC without a monitor dont you nick?
NickSCFC
03-30-2004, 03:47 AM
I buy a package which includes the PC, monitor and whatever else you need, it's better to have everything matching.
gamingmonkey2004
03-30-2004, 03:50 AM
yea...will you get to your point? are you trying to say thats what sony is doing is put everything in one? like the PC goes with the monitor and the PS goes with the tv
NickSCFC
03-30-2004, 03:51 AM
Not at all.
gamingmonkey2004
03-30-2004, 03:53 AM
then whats your point?
NickSCFC
03-30-2004, 03:54 AM
It has nothing to do with putting everything into one. Tell me, does your PC have Windows XP Media Center Edition?
gamingmonkey2004
03-30-2004, 03:55 AM
no just home edition
NickSCFC
03-30-2004, 03:58 AM
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/mediacenter/default.asp
Have a look at this. Basically what it does is makes your PC function like a home entertainment system and uses a remote. You could do with having a look at it.
gamingmonkey2004
03-30-2004, 04:01 AM
this has to do with PS3? or design?
NickSCFC
03-30-2004, 04:03 AM
That didn't make sense at all.
KlawHammer

gamingmonkey2004
03-30-2004, 02:40 PM
this has to do with PS3? or design?
i was saying that we are arguing over something that doesnt have to do with the topic or PS3...unless you were trying to make a point and plus i made that post fast cause i had to go to bed
NickSCFC
03-30-2004, 02:44 PM
Anyway, don't expect anything to radical in terms of design. Most likely it'll look very bland (though stylish) like PSX.
gamingmonkey2004
03-30-2004, 02:48 PM
the PS2 was sort of plain but it had style on it with those indensions and etc.. but yes im expecting the PS3 to be plain but still have something that makes it stand out and not look plain
KlawHammer
03-31-2004, 09:40 AM
Yes like gold writing on the top saying "PS3" in gold...
gamingmonkey2004
04-01-2004, 02:48 AM
silver and gold!? that would be nice alot of things go good with silver and white...except white

SCEE President, David Reeves had this to say in a recent interview:
Reeves further suggested that in addition to a PlayStation 3 "intrinsically linked with PSX", "also there might be a normal PS3 for gamers, who just want to play the movies and have better games." The "home server" version of PlayStation 3, which has "all-singing, all-dancing features with maybe a hard disk drive", could retail for "whatever it might be, 600 or 700 Euros" according to Reeves, while the alternative might be for people who "just want to pay 200 Euros for a new generation games machine".
Quite possibe that there will be two versions of PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 3 technology being used in other Sony products.
Emcee3
04-02-2004, 04:29 PM
I think the PS3 should be royal blue with lime green writing. How sweet is that combination.
NickSCFC
04-02-2004, 05:54 PM
It'd look like Micrsoft.
Emcee3
04-02-2004, 06:26 PM
I dont think so because it would still have the playstation design and i dont see any royal blue on the xbox.
NickSCFC
04-02-2004, 06:34 PM
Well look at your PC screens then (providing you're using Windows XP) anyway, it's an awful idea and most people would agree.

I think the PS3 should be royal blue with lime green writing. How sweet is that combination.
not very! im gald you dont work for Sony cause you have a bad sense of color combinations not to mention they dont want anything bright! they want it to blend in with your DVD players and what ever else you have
KlawHammer
04-03-2004, 07:45 AM

ultimategamer2004
04-04-2004, 09:34 PM
I think the ps3 should be made in multiple colours and also a clear case..
shaudeus
04-05-2004, 12:10 AM
i would opt for a clear case if i hadent already bought the xbox id go for thier crytal green case it looks alot better than the black one sony would look even better with one maybe even a led lit fan for added effect
niblets
04-05-2004, 01:21 PM
I still think that a brushed aluminium case would be by far the best! :)
You're a fucking faggot dude.
Nah, that would be quite a tasty look. I am feeling the pink, fluffy look though...
10 posts Sanch, you're working your way to the top!!! You'll be a post whore in no time.
GT4 RULZ
04-05-2004, 02:17 PM
i agree with niblets. an aluminium case would look sweet but it might get scratched easily
It would prob need polished quite often as well... Best keep your sticky hands off it...
Emcee3
04-05-2004, 08:37 PM
The aluminum casing color would be sweet but its just like everything else. Why not go a little crazy, people will buy the console no matter what and i think that instead of black or silver or any of that stupid shit it should be some crazy ass color
"crazy ass colours" tend to put some people off... Colour sensitive people for a start...

ok your a moron some people might not want hot pink or something under their TV set so im thinking it will be a cool color

brownbeaner2
04-06-2004, 05:23 AM
i would like a cool color for the PS3 but just by chance that sony makes the PS3 some weird color ill just spray paint it to whatever color i want it to look like
KlawHammer
04-06-2004, 11:10 AM
I would spray it the same color as my webserver - blue with little Linux (pronounced LIH-nucks) penguins all over.
shaudeus
04-06-2004, 06:01 PM
i sprayed my pc with chameleon paint
KlawHammer
04-06-2004, 09:20 PM

gamingmonkey2004
04-07-2004, 02:43 AM
i really dont think you need to worry about the PS3 being an ugly color like pink or anything to far away from dark toned colors like navy blue, maroon, dark green, black, then the brightest i think would be white or silver
Omega Blue
04-07-2004, 02:53 AM
i think it will look like the PSX, or something to that effect.
gamingmonkey2004
04-07-2004, 02:54 AM
yea
with the dark colors i was talking about i was thinking of those being the lettering
shaudeus
04-07-2004, 03:20 AM
well hopefully if the conrollers are wired then they will still put them in the front of the device
gamingmonkey2004
04-07-2004, 03:17 PM
i would think so only PSX has it in the back and the reason is because its an entertainment system so the ugly controller ports would take away from it...well thats what im guessing
NickSCFC
04-07-2004, 03:20 PM
I don't think Sony was intending on putting the controler ports at the back, it probably came down to costs in the end. Anyway, you can use the remote to play games, according to Edge anyway.
gamingmonkey2004
04-07-2004, 03:21 PM
plus it wouldnt matter if the controller ports are on the back if there are wirless controllers
NickSCFC
04-07-2004, 03:22 PM
The sensors (4 at least) would have to be at the front of the system.
brownbeaner2
04-08-2004, 01:44 AM
unless they use bluetooth wireless system which is what sony puts in all of their cellphones it supports from 10-15 meters of distance and theirs no lag either works better then infared

04-08-2004, 03:48 AM

KlawHammer
04-16-2004, 12:42 PM
That would be good. It would look "cute"
F**k cute, the PS3 will be state of the art gaming technology... It should look like a beast.

dude have u ever seen a PSX b4? its smaller than a ps2 and its a bit more SQAREish
if u put a PSX on top of as PS2 ull see that ps2 is longer
why does everyone think that PSX is as huge as xbox???

People just assume that the PSX is as big as the X-box because they have only seen pictures of it, so it's hard to grasp what scale it actually is.

That Cocoon looks nice, and the PSX is actually a lot larger than the Xbox, in both dimensions and weight.
PSX Dimensions: (Width, Depth, Height)
31.2cm x 32.3cm x 8.8cm
Xbox Dimensions: (Width, Depth, Height)
30cm x 18cm x 8 cm
PSX Weight:
8.8kg
Xbox Weight:
8kg

techincally, for all the features and capabilities that the PSX has, its not that big, and it is no where near as tall as the X-Box either. so the PSX is actually small in its own right.

No, he hasn't got one. But he assumed this considering that Matt posted the dimensions for the PSX and X-BOX on the previous page.
martel
04-17-2004, 04:16 PM
PSX: 312 x 323 x 88mm
http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press/200310/03-1007E/
PS2: 301 x 78 x 182 mm
http://www.ps2.geek.nz/site.dyn/Specs/
X-Box: 324 × 265 × 90mm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XBox
Calculator tells me that equals:
PSX: 8,868,288 mm cubed
PS2: 4,272,996 mm cubed
X-Box: 7,727,400 mm cubed
So in conclusion, PSX is a bit bigger then X-Box which is quite a bit bigger then PS2.

Where did you hear that i doubt it weighs that much does it :P
The specs I posted two pages ago dammit! :x
For anybody (more like everybody) who missed them the first time, here they are.
PSX:
31.2cm x 32.3cm x 8.8cm
Weight: 8.8kg
Xbox:
30cm x 18cm x 8cm
Weight: 8kg
Also, the PS2 weighs 4.5kg.

The ps2 feels very very light. but i suppose the weight doesent matter because it is a home console and not a portable.
Yea. I don't see why the dimensions are of that much importance, as the thing will most probably be sitting underneath your TV. But I didn't actually think that the PSX would be that large.

Yes well i move my PS2 and GC around the house very often between the TVs and PC monitors so i like that they're both light. How light is the GC by the way?

PSX is actually small and XBOX is actually execively big for the parts and components it has inside.
PSX 250gig HDD
XBOX 10gigHDD
PSX Tivo
XBOX NO
PSX 2 USB port
XBOX NO
PSX 2 Controller ports
XBOX 4
PSX Memory Stick slot
xbox NO
etc etc etc
so in the end psx for all the things it has inside it's pretty small. it can basically do everything a computer does. while xbox is a huge box with the same components and a small @ss HDD for storage.
OMEGA admit your wrong psx is bigger than xbox. that was the same reason i was trying to find a pic of an xbox and psx comparison side by side and one on top of the other. psx covers the xbox completely if on top of it. but side by side psx looks a bit smaller because it's got a slick, plain and very cool desing to it. but in reality psx is bigger than xblock. but like i mentioned before is really not for all the functions it can perform.

PSX $999.99
XBOX $149.99
you get what you pay for
rev>thanu
04-19-2004, 05:52 AM
actually the price depends on the size of the HDD.
a 250 gig hdd with your PSX will make the console cost $720
a 160 gig hdd with your PSX will make the console cost $500 something.
i think i also heard that the 250gig hdd will cost less hear in the US.
but i'm sure a PSX will not cost 999.99 here or in the US. the price aint that far from what i paid for a regular complete ps2 in the long run. over the years came out the hdd and network adaptor. i paid $300 for a ps2 3 days after it came out then 50 for an HDD not including the final fantasy game and 50 for a network adaptor so i wasted 400 on a ps2 so far and not including memory cards because at the time there wasn't the HDD. i have 2 memory cards 30 dollars each so in total investment 460 not including tax for all those items. so really i ain't complaining because is true what you said " you get what you pay for". well i paid for the best console and i got it. :)

Interesting point that to think how much you spend on it. Additional controllers, memory cards, dvd remote. Whoa the ps2 is the gift that keeps on taking :?

Yes, the PS2 is the only thing other than my PC that i have spent over $1000 not including the console...

LAZY monkey! even i dont have a recliner..........yet. But all the same that little box gobbles up money like a freighter on fire...(bad comparison)I'd hate to imagine how much i would spend on the PS3 when i get it - $5000 upwards???? who knows.

Lol, thats the life. Gaming makes you lazy and unsociable. I mean look at me, i have no social life left - i think of games, PCs anything electronic (gals) and thats about all. My life is wasted. The PS2 truly has taken me time, money and care.

so there still a good we while to wait then :(
This is just pure speculation mind you, and this speculation is based on... No facts. So indeed I could just be talking shite. Someone else would be better taking an educated guess as I'm not too sure. Oh by the way Nibblets, hows the house with no stairs coming along? Well Sony actually unveiled PlayStation 2 only 5 months before it was released in Japan, so I would say late 2005.

Its not that easy. If he has a dynamic IP then its pretty much useless as it changes everytime he connects to the internet. If its a static IP then i pray that f*****r gets kicked out....
Ah right, does everyone not have a dynamic IP? I thought this was the standard for Internet security. Everytime I log on to AOL is my IP address static or does it change?
KlawHammer
04-21-2004, 11:35 AM
AOL is the worst of them all. It changes your IP as you browse the net unlike others that only change when you connect. So in other words in one session AOL can change your IP a dozen times.
You say AOL is the worst of them all, but this is a good thing right? This means that some wee bastard has less of a chance of getting into my system doesn't it? What's AOL's firewall like? I have the option to download it, I guess I should really.

Well from a an ordinary surfer this is good news, but for me i run a webserver from home so i need a static IP or people wouldnt be able to find my site. As for the AOL firewall, its not necessary if yu have a constant changing IP.
Ah right, thanks for tha tip Klaw.

generally, if you use dialup, you have a dynamic IP, if you have cable or dsl (you don't have to log on every time) then you have static IP

I didn't know it could change while your still conected???
Hows that implimentable cause i would have though inorder to have a connection with any other server your ip would have to be constant for that time.
KlawHammer
04-22-2004, 02:55 AM
That i'm afraid is not how AOL works. They constanty change IPs for "security" reasons. They know waht all their customers IPs are and change them while not losing a connection to your PC.
That applies with most services. Dynamic IP's change all the time, it's not just AOL.

Well i voted Gray just to be diffrent it would be nice to see them release it in more than one colour though instead of making you get it in one like the PS2 then bringing out that loverly Aqua one and Silver one at a much later date.
Ibanez32
04-27-2004, 01:14 PM
Even more than tht it would be cool to see them do something that no ones done before and beyond different colours. If there were actually 3 different designs as in different shaps and colour each different one having its own characteristic. Now, although that may put production cost up they would shift more consoles as real rich people would want to buy all 3 as would people wanting them for demostration/ display purposes. This means that cirtain people who would have only bought one will now have bought 3.
