I don't think that Sony will have problems with a few of the things that you've listed above, mainly because of the Sony Ericsson P900.

The P900, for those of you who don't know, is a mobile phone/pda/mp3 player/games player. It has a long battery life, high quality music and good quality movies.

So perhaps Sony will take some of the features from the P900 and incorporate them into the PSP?

Apart from that, I guess the main problem for a lot of people will be the price.

i still think most of those might be problems

Most of those reasons are rubbish. Sony really has not made a crappy product in recent history that I can remember. PSP is going to rule, and there is no way Sony would let the quality of such a high profile product slip. Not with standing that it will supposidly have the largest opening library of original games in console/handheld history. On top of the fact that it's runmored WiFi 802.11 capabilities. I want to play SOCOM with my friends at say, Dennies when wainting for food. That would kick some major ass. See yah GameBoy SP....

well lets see
1 i dont think umds are going to be as popular as dvds
2 having to have a $30 data stick to save isnt the best
3 xbox fans are usally the worst
4 corndogs are good
5 its an estimated battery life of 3 hours
6 maybe $150 is kinda exspensive to people
7 with all this stuff in it maybe the mp3 player isnt that high quality

I said most, not all and for the market share that Sony is shooting for(older more discriminating gamers), $150 is most likely not to much. Unless you don't have a job that is. Though I agree that X-Box fan boys are usually the worst and corndogs are good. :D

now i guess price may be a big problem because i think the magic number now is atleast $200

(eating a corndog) yummy....o well i think the price is the big issue cause with the new info that has come out on PSPinsider it seems to be more than $150 (cough)double that(cough) yeah so if its more than 200 i dont think its going to do very well against SP

UMD's will become popular like the DVD in the next 3/4 years. It might take longer but that's about how long it should take before more movies are produced for it. Battery life is quite enough for me. I will be using my PSP during school and rechargingin it when I get home so it is enough (if not more). That estimated time is probably very wrong. It would be absurd for them to make a console that you have to recharge every 3 hours. They will at least make it 7 hours. I got a job, so I'm good with the money. I don't care if it's $400, i'm still gonna get it. The Memory Stick is a great idea. I have no idea why you think it's bad. You need something to save on what better than somethign that isn't big, doesn't cost much, and can hold a very large amount of data. The Memory Stick cost a lot less than memory cards when it comes to money-to-size ratio. You can get a 128MB one for $40-$60. Besides, you need this stuff to play mpegs and mp3s. Which you gotta be able to do that on a next generation portable. Especially one by Sony. They don't make just consoles. They prefer to make Entertainment consoles that have many multimedia functions.

How can an MP3 player not be high quality?? Are you sure you know what an MP3 player does? Or even what an MP3 is? lol

Well I dont think the psp will cost $400, and I hope it doesnt cost that much, I cant afford that, and I already got a job, im gonna need a second so I could get the games, the new computer, and a tv. So i cant afford a psp, if it does cost that much.

PLEASE DONT!

Man, i hate hearing about negative people saying "it probably won't be that good", "what if the mp3 isn't......"

What the hell do you think Sony is?? It has a piece of almost every electronic
gadget out there. And bringing up the P900 is a very good example.
I'm very much a PDA/Smartphone fan and soon i'll own a P900. The Mp3 on the P800 was clear enough, it had nice 3d graphics, .... the list continues.
Not mentioning the PDA's...

Every portable article Sony brings out is of the best quality, so have faith in them.

I would not be so sure about the price until Sony announces the official info or they wait till it is in the stores to let peps know. I really doubt that Sony would charge as much as $200 bones for a handheld, but only time will tell.

well what im saying about the mp3 is that about 3 months ago i got an mp3 player that when it played every now and then it would cut of or get quiter. at first i thought it was just the music wasnt high quality then i listened to it on my computer and it was crystal clear. and at a max the psp can be $200 if it wants to sell good

Three words. Too Many Problems.I'm only going to get a PSP and that's ONLY, when Sony sort all those problems out. Plus the games are pretty crap as well at the minute. Metal Gear Acid is a Stratedgy which is crap. Gran Turismo, well i got tht on my PS2. The only games i have any interest in at the minute are Bleach, Ridge Racers and Vampire Chronicles. There are alot more games on DS that i'm looking forward to at the minute, which is why i chose to get the DS first.

Lol... I was reading the topic from the beginning and they were saying things about rumors and such which are now assured and noticed it was a topic from January of 2004... one year old... nice topic though... anw!
The thing that mostly worries me about the PSP is about those dead pixels! I love all of its features and I know from reviews and such that the PSP is of top quality but I am just worried of the dead pixels as well as the price here in Cyprus!
