View Full Version : Personal reviews...

I was just thinking to myself... :?

I think that there should be a section dedicated for people who want to review classic games, or even new ones. It would be handy to get some opinions flying around and to see if people agree or think otherwise with the member who reviewed the title.

So basically, let certain members review titles, talk about the game for a while, give it a score for different areas (Graphics, gameplay, sound etc) and then gather feedback from the other members.

I just thought this would be interesting, just a suggestion!

I've always thought something like that would be a nice idea, it just depends what Scott and/or Andrew think. If something like that happened, then people would probably have to run it by moderators first, just to see if everything in the review is OK.

But yea, good suggestion.

As was mentioned, the reviews would have to be run by the Staff, which would be more work. Right now it wouldn't be such an issue, but in the near future it could prove impossible. The closer we get to the release date, the more information surfaces. Also, there are plenty of websites out there would have reviews of games.

I don't think that he meant the Staff, I think he was talking about the visitors to the site. A forum could be made out of it, and then people could reply with their thoughts of the review.

That is what I am talking about. Any review would have to be read over by someone to make sure it was indeed a review and not some crap that no one can read. Its best to leave the reviewing to the pros ;)

I wouldn't mind reading through the reviews. Anyway, I think that it's nice to see the point of view of someone else, not just a reviewer who is forced to play through a game because it's his/her job.

Or make a new thread in the PS2 games section called game reviews.
Then you can put your game review there, wait untill at least 5 to 10 people have replied, then you can put up a new review.

Still, a section apart woudld be much better.

well, if it's all personal opinion, and it's a oldish game..... why not post your opinion..... I don't get cotroversy..... Wouldn't be "official" but who cares... opinions are welcome.

I think that it would be good for it to have a seperate forum, otherwise all of the other forums would get clogged up with them.

i think its a great idea but u might get loads of reviews for 1 game and in those reviews ppl r going to disagree and start arguing and stuff

I'm sure that a system could be sorted out for multiple repetetive reviews. Also I think that arguments will be good, just as long as they're constructive.

I think that it would be quite good if the site supported a review section by the people here or the mods. It's nice to get an oppinion from someone who plays video games as a hobby and isn't payed to say one thing or another. Also I don't like most of the reviews at Gamefaqs because they say things like "Shinobi is totally ripping off megaman!!" or "..this game is suck because it has not enough blood/killing/nudity..". I think that a large margin of the people here are too intelligent to let such think, let alone say, such things about video games.

Also if the users to post reviews and there are a good number of hits (like a counter of views on the reviews too would be nice) then it would attract new people to site. Even if they just post reviews it would be nice to have new people here. You know, new people that don't post "Bring me a tool shed, I am hungry".

wasnt it bring me a toolshed FOR i am hungry, i forget
anyway yes it would bring more ppl to the site which carnt be bad and most of the ppl here r 2 intelligent and mature to say something like FFX's cinimaticss r sooooo crap because yuna and rikku didnt hav enough showing (if u know wot i mean)
but 1 thing i just noticed where is andrew and scott because there the 1's u need to read and think about this

I like the idea as well. There will be a new section, in each forum; PS2, PSP, PS3- for game reviews via the board users. I have already created the new section; User Game Reviews in the PS2 forum as that is the only system with currently available games. When the other systems are released, their will be a section made for those systems as well. There will be rules and the new sections will be heavily moderated- even more so than the rest of the boards. The full rules are still being drafted and I will post them in a sticky within the Rules / Announcements as well as the User Game Reviews section.

Scott: I agree, please forward any rules / tips / ect to staff and mods.

I can see the downside, but I hope our comunity is up to the task, plus good experience for them! Who knows, we may find a future star here.

( plus I want to hear about all the "ODD" games" )

Speaking of odd games, I should be getting my copy of Gregory Horror Show tomorrow. Should be interesting.

Just so you know Scott, if you need someone to moderate the content of the reviews.....

While we're on that subject, solidus, can you make your signiture smaller. The maximum size is 400x80.

Also, do you think it's worth seperating the formats into different folders? For example:

GameCube
PS2
Xbox
Other

Also also, how about having a specific system to the reviewing. Everyone who has posted a review so far has a totally different system of scoring the games. So perhaps if we set a certain scoring system, so that newcomers will be able to follow it a bit easier?

solidus

I don't think alot of people would bother to write reviews of another console on a Playstation site seeing that most of the visitors and members have Ps2's so they wouldn't be interested much in X-box or GC games.
Ofcourse you can but making seperate folders for the consoles would be too much to start with.

Matt
01-13-2004, 10:40 PM
Well we've had a review on a different platform already (even if it is the Mega Drive). I just think that it would be good to cover all of the bases.

solidus
01-13-2004, 11:34 PM
Then just make an "Other" folder to cover all the other consoles.
If it grows more popular then it would defently need specifical folders but i think it's a bit soon.
