Some people on the site wanted to give limited power to new people. Others wanted to make it so people could have ranks (I read it a while back I think). My proposal is that we have a rank system where you go up in ranks by taking tests on the PS2 PS3 and PSP. The tests would get harder as you ascend the ranks and would be chocked full of good ol trivia and good facts. Then your Playstation rank would display below your to your number of posts. Of course this wouldn't have to do with number of posts, but instead with the amount of knowledge you have collected on the Playstation brand in general. I think it's a good idea for a Playstation based site like this.
Interesting concept. And I suppose the more people want a better rank, the more they will research into things, which then means that there will be some intelligent conversations on here.

Exactly. We could have different content in the quizes too. Like the history of Sony and Nintendo's SNES DISC system and the creation of the Playstation. The PSP and what not too. The higher levels would be much more in depth like the insides of a PS2, what the general specs are and other things.
The only drawback I can see with it is the whole "superiority" issue. But hopefully the guys on here are mature enough to not make a problem out of that.

Its a great idea to have playstation quiz ranks.

What would be different for the people with higher rankings?
Do they become some sort of semi-moderators?
Not a bad idea,nice one.

i like the idea as well
but wot wot be diffrent about ppl when they hav higher ranks as solidus said
it certainly would make ppl do more research
u also could include some very easy but good 2 know computing questions like how many bits in a KB (that 1 gets more ppl thn u would think)
but wot if ppl do start with the 'i know more than u so im better' thing? maybe a mod could put them on a warning for it or something?
cool idea though i get the feeling this will never work in practise but im not sure why

Yea that's what I was trying to get at in my last post. Hopefully it wouldn't happen, but if it did, then we would warn them. A few of us have been chatting about a few ideas, and I think that it would be for a higher rank.
We would come up with gaming related questions, and as you reach better ranks they would get harder. At the moment this idea is in it's very early stages, so a lot of things would need to be sorted out if we were to go head with the idea.

well if u did could u put in computing related questions like hardware as well as all the games stuff
I think that the plan was to keep it PlayStation related.

ok i see why but
1. if u put stuff todo with hardware and stuff like that ppl would get more knowlege which will be good for them and make topics on ps3 hardware and stuff more interlectual
2. itle be good to varie the questions and remember its the computers that made games possible so shouldnt u show them some respect
some1 back me up here any1?????
I suppose you've got a point. There could be some hardware-related questions in the more advanced quizzes.
solidus
01-13-2004, 11:23 PM
As long if they are Playstation harware questions (1, 2(, 3)) it would be good.
But the question that hasn't been answered yet (i know you're still working it out but just to ask) what will be the difference between the ones with higher ranks and the lower ones? What kind of power will the higher ones have?
At first we were thinking about having different boards for each different rank, but we're not really sure where this will end up going yet. Perhaps it'll be just for the sake of having a different rank name, I don't know.

If it would just be for different rank i wonder what the point is really (don't get me wrong, i think it's a fantastic idea). The better thing in that case would be to just have quizes(?) without rankings, it would just lead to "I'm better" remarkes.
I would like a ranking but only if there would be something to it. Like more power.
Example: closing posts, moving posts.
If at any time anyone would make advantage of this power they should be banned.

more power yea mods power noo that wouldnt work
though u hav a point that if it was just for a rank then its pointless
but there needs to be some point to the quizes so well i dotn know
i trust the staff to think of something
We'll think of something, so stick around.....

Yea, I hated it too..just didn't say anything.
Sorry I haven't been around to answer your questions about the development of my "Modest Proposal" (did any of you get the joke?). I was getting my paycheck from work and it took an hour to do. ><;;
In any case we (the staff) are developing ideas on how to get this idea on it's feet. If any of you have suggestions that aren't "Have different general boards for each rank" or "High ranks should have mod powers" then please post them.
Judging by the posts on here most people would fail a spelling test so that's out of the question. BUWAHAHAHA just kidding guys.

That's cool. We'll try to discuss this more thoroughly as soon as possible.
"Due to competition" I can't discuss what has been said thus far. *mimicking Nintendo*

This is not such a good idea. The last thing you want to do is create a hierarchy on a message board. It is one thing to give title by posting messages, and a completely different thing to give title by taking quizes. This alone would detour people from joining the threads, which is something we do not want. This idea would take a lot more work than you think, and it would only benefit a few people. I personally don't think it is such a great idea.
Danji

God forbid we discuss this privately. lol, okay. I guess we won't be having that. It's your decision to make.
6 out of the seven people who managed to hit that button at the top agreed with me. That makes me infallable, right? How about if I smite that 1 person? Darn..(jk anyhoo)

Let's move this off the boards, use pm or other means....
That's my vote. (time has come)
P.S.: was i the only one who thought space monkey was original? Well I guess I came here at an earlier time... the site was smaller then.... Time to growup I suppose...

Two things
A) Ranking system is a "no no" on forums, I'm a mod for Canada forums ran by my best friend, and we managed without a ranking system for 2.5 years, and we only had to ban "ONE" person in that entire time.
B) Quizes would be fun, but then again, they would only be fun if they are accurate. Like we can't have questions guessing PS2 %100 peak, cause we don't know. I think simple hardware VU1 VU0 Emotion Engine, the fact that PS2 is a Media designed machine and has a huge bandwidth, so of course it has to stream data etc.
Cheers!

No, they're right now that I think about it. It would be terrible thing to introduce a hierarchy to this site, so many bad things could come of it. Though I have to ask you all one more time..
Did any of you get the thread title reference???

if the staff hav time they could still do some quizes which only the person that does them gets 2 know their score
just a bit of fun i spose

I do not believe, for the reasons stated by my collegues (Josh & Andrew) that this is a feasible idea.
A) One would have to have a rewards system, and therefore any rewards system, be it a special (members-only) section or what have you, would be limiting and discremenitory.
B) You could effectively implement a survey whereby techical questions are asked to assertain the knowledge base level of a user before they are alloed to register for the forums, this would (assist, not eliminate) un-knowledgeable users. However, we could only offer questions which answers have already been profered on the site. Overall I feel this is a bad idea as well- I know that myself would not be willing to answer some time consuming questionaire in order to register. Which bring it back to the pay-off..
C) There would be required, some form of pay-off. Perhaps this idea could be utilized to create a contest; "the most knowledgeable gamer wins a ps3 at luanch" or what have you. I'll consider this angle in the future. However making a test to utilize or gain prevliage on the forums is not a good idea.

you know new people wont see it like this and are gonna cheat get all the right answers then start this " haha i am the 1337 haxor i pwned j00 a11" thing espesially as knew people jion just to act ignorant.i think this whole concept it bullshit, it will just start a "my e-penis is bigger then yours" crapola, how do i know this is gonna happen? cause i used to be an admin of a site who did this type of thing aswell (yes i was still against it), it failed and the place went to the sh*t's and now that place has been abondoned.
not only is this a threat but also the not so computer or tech literate people will be put off on jioning because it might intimimdate them
yes i for one am getting tired of all the "whens its gonna be release, whats the release date. whats its gonna look like?" threads but if we haven't noticed not many of them have been popping up lately.
