seeing as how so many people have been having problems with first gen ps2's i will be buying the biggest warranty they offer at launch. there is no way im gonna wait and get the ps3 like 6 months later. im old enough now to camp out if necessary but im gonna have a ps3 at launch no matter what. :D also since the ps3 is debuting new technology like the cell processor you know the possibilities of many systems failing is pretty high. my launch ps2 does not work right so that why i made this thread. :(
They will most likely just offer the same one year warranty that they always do... Which isn't enough if you ask me.

Well yes it isn't enough in case somethin happens to it 1 day after the warranty expires then you are on your own...

I will wait 6 months before buying a PS3 so they can sort out any problems with it because they will be.
The PS1 and PS2 both had problems at launch, mainly Japanese models though but I would still wait.
If you take an extra warranty out it will only get sent to Sony for repair as they can only repair Sony products.
You could go elsewhere if its something simple but I wouldn't recommend having something major repaired other than by Sony.
Its something to do with Sony parts and design.
Anyway I have had my PS2 since 2001and never had any problems with it at all. :)

Yes, those launch products always have something wrong with them aye? I'll wait as well until Sony has ironed out most of the preverbial "creases" in the console.

That is so strange, I bought both PS1 and PS2 consoles at launch in Japan, and the only problem Ive really had with PS1 was the laser!
The only thing I could call a problem at PS2 launch was the DVD driver disc, that wasnt really a problem, cause it enable you to play some region 1 dvd movies :D

actually, some gameshops (like the one near my house) offer additional warranties, for a price. For example, the one around my house costs $20 for a three year warranty. You can just take it in if it breaks, and they will give you a new one. I don't know if they will do this for ps3 but they probably will.

I got my PS1 in 1997 and it works fine, and I got my PS2 in 2001 and it does have problems once in a while playing paticular games or movies but not all.

I've never owned a PS1, but i can tell you my PS2 is trouble-free. It has no disk-read errors or anything.

dont think ill need one, i had a 1st gen ps2 which was workin untill a month ago or so.....so it worked for like 4 yrs with no problems, so if anything happens to my ps3 in 4 year i wouldnt even care much cuz the ywill be much cheaper and easier to get, ill just go out and buy a new one =\

I usually play on my Console since most Computer games these days are either unoriginal crap or simply ported version of console games. Besides, it's much funner to site down with a friend and play a good game on a console with two different controllers then trying to jam two players onto ONE keyboard (And most PC games these days doesn't even support 2 player on one keyboard)! I probably won't get a warranty and I probably won't get a PS3 at launch either... gonna wait 'till they either price cuts or comes out with those cool looking promotional PS3s (Like the silver PS2 and stuff).

mmm, my PC is just about stuffed with upgrades of the sort you wouldnt believe. You are right about the quality of PC games. It seems that they only concentrate on getting the best visuals these days and gameplay (and controls) suffer greatly. Nothing beats siting on a cumfy reclinable with a controller in your hand, a cola at your side and a game of T.H.U.G.

Hehe... I've read what your computer has on some other thread....
You got like 11 Fans... and it sounds like a jet eh? I wonder how loud 11 fans sounds like... my crappy P3 with 2 fans sound pretty bad when it's processing already... can't believe a 11 fanned beast :?.

Lets just say there are times when you feel like shutting it up for good especialy at night - ever noticed how the PC seems to make the most noise at night when everyone wants to sleep? It really loud since i leave it on all the time i need those fans.

There was a special 5 year warranty deal when I went to picked up my PS2, I didnt go with it because I knew as soon as I mod it the warranty is voided so whats the point of wasting money.
My PS2 was a launch one and its still without a scratch, never had any problems with it.

If that noise really bothers you get a water cooled case, they only cost about 30-50 percent more than a good case with fans... kind of expensive but I can run my PC's all night without any problems. what?! Those exists?!?! Cool!!! I'm getting one of those next time I build a comp! (It's been like 2 years since I've been to a computer parts shop... so things have changed while I was away... for the better of course :P).

my friend has a watercooling kit for his pc he built himself , but here in california you can buy water cooled kits already preinstalled in pc cases in local pc shops. in pc shops like fry's and others.

Leaving you computer on all night is hardly an achivment, mines hardly ever off and all i've got is fans (ok 9 of them) but still way cheaper that water cooling. Not to say they aren't good but in some cases its overkill.

Not to say they aren't good but in some cases its overkill. Leaving a computer on all night is what everyone should do... Turning it on and off kills the electric wires faster then if you leave it on at a constant rate... That's why my computer hasn't been off for 6 Months until it's monitor blew up (Due to constant on and off...).
And the thing about fans is that they're annoyingly loud (if you have lots of 'em).

I like tinkering with my computerto overclock it and the way I figure it if I dual band a couple of nice powerful processors, even though it might cost me quite a bit im on top of the PC market for a few months maybe years.
Unfortunately that produces a lot of heat too.

I leave mine on coz its a webserver.
Why o why doesnt anyone leave there PC on all the time? My PC has lots of fans=lots of noise but i'm making a watercooling system for it so i cant wait to trial it on my old PC first then the big baby comes next.

Actually I want a dual PCI-Express graphics subsystem with dual CPU's.
A couple of FX-53's and a couple of X800's(or whatever is the best then) should cost me a pretty penny but I have a year to save for it and it should be able to cater for my needs for years and years to come so in the end itll be well worth it.

I'm gonna get the more expensive PS3, and it better come with more than a one year warranty considering all the extra stuff in it that could break. I'm on my 4th PS2 and don't expect the PS3 to work any better at launch. They're going to be losing money on the first systems anyways, so I know the internal parts are going to be cheap as hell to prevent a further loss.
Anybody know how long the PSX warranty goes for?

1 to 2 years. 1 to 2 years doesn't seem too bad... except consoles usually fail after 4 years. So most warranties doesn't cover that long .

isn't your manufacturer warranty for a year? If you got the receipts, and your game breaks down within like 12 months of purchase, you can bring it back to get it fixed.
Anyway, extended warranty is like a double edged sword...the sales rep gets a bonus, the company makes cash and you can use their warranty or abuse it. Break it down twice, and then ask for a replacement. I've been conning future shop for so long now....
1 time i fried my ps2 by spilling water on it and took it back sayin it had smoke comin out of the console and told them that their product was faulty and put my life at risk. This was like a few months after the ps2 was released, and i haven't had any problems with it since then. When all my warranties ran out, and i grew lazy, i got a disc read error...but that got fixed.
