Well i've just seen SONYs 2004 E3 Press Conference for the first time. and.....Cyber World??? LMAO
Ok i dunno if i got this right BUT heres what i gathered from the video:
Cyber World will be created once Cell Processors connect thru Sony's Network..once all Online Connected PS3s will work as one to Power, or in other words Make this so called Cyber World. He also mentioned something about Cyber World Cities =\ im guessing if all REAL NY Online Compatible PS3s Connect and work as one they will form this CYBER NY and it will go on and on, connecting other CYBER cities to form this CYBER WORLD
It was also mentioned that You would be able to interact in this CYBER WORLD. So in other words a huge ass GTA? Fake Matrix? I mean whats the point of interacting in Cyber World? Im guessing that you would make Friends, or interact with your buddies, make game schedules and etc.....In other words CHAT/Gaming in one.
Lol is that what SONY was talkin about? I mean did i get it right? Are they trying to create and interactive ADVANCED, Futurized version of Xbox Live?
I mean SONY have said a few rediculous things in the Past....but this one DEFINATELY takes the cake.....no wait, THE WHOLE BAKERY.
And its not to say that i doubt this is a posibility, i mean im and open minded kinda guy, i might have never seen Aliens but i dont doubt they exsist....and you know i do read Popular Science time to time, and things i read there realy amaze me...BUT THIS? I dunno i think SONY has watched THE MATRIX a few too many times. I mean imagine what it would cost to power such an amazing and HUGE world? I mean i understand that PS3s Online Gaming would MOST likely require a fee, i mean its a NO BRAINER......but im also not planing to pay $1000s of dollars a year to POWER this so called CYBER WORLD....and i dont think *$50 dollars a year( *just an idea from XBL ) just wouldnt cut it. =D
I mean this is pretty rediculous, but im not saying it can be done....ill just keep quiet for now and see what SONY will have to offer once PS3 is out. Because i was once told that PS2 would do Toy Story GFX :-)
oh And wouldnt This Cyber World end the GTA series? ;-) j/k
Oh and Ive also searched IGN and GAMESPOT for this Cyber World explanation or w/e but couldnt find a DAMN thing. So its either i didnt get what SONY was talkin about OR IGN/GAMESPOT and well all other gamesite editors dont know whether to belive this or even bring it up so they wouldnt feel dumb once this CYBER WORLD doesnt work out and never even appears =X
Well I know im not the BEST TYPER ( does that word even excist :-X ) or w/e BUT lets keep this thread live, id like to hear some of your opinions on this "CYBER WORLD" and which DRUGS were SONY on when they came up with this??? Id LOOOOOVE to gte some of that =D
Discuss.

yea thast what i thought it was......its just the way he made it sound, thats why i was laughin at Cyber World......SONY makes every lil shit seem as its revolutionary and out of this world =\
i mean downloading games and movies off the net isnt "INTERACTING" =\
from what i understod is they were trying to make it like XBOX Live but with NEW features.....video chat and more.
OK Ill just Quote what im talkin about:
Sony E3 2004 press Conference
Now Games and Movies will convert to create a totaly new form of Entertainment. It will be different from what we know as Games or Movies today. When Movies and Games are created (then i cant understand him, hes got a bad japanese accent, but hes saying that both games and movies will be stored on their network)...When Multyple Cell-Based systems are connected to the BROADBAND NETWORK, Cell-Based Systems will form a single Cyber World. In the Cyber World of Cell-Based Systems, citizens, vehicles(or atleast i think hes saying vehicles) and buildings in the cities are generated and operated by multyple cell systems connected thru Broadband Networks. The user will Jack into the Cyber World thru the Entertainment system in his home. And user will be able to navigate the Cyber World seemlessly. This is the future of Broadband entertainment.
I BOLDed the things that made me think of it as a mini matrix =D
Hmm ok now that ive heard it again, nvm......i guess i shouldnt toke and listen to press conferences next time =D

Don't expect anything like www.there.com although it would be pretty amazing. I concur with makaveli in that it'll just be an online community where gamers can chat and download multimedia, play games and what not. Don't expect anything like there.com to hit the consoles anytime soon.

They could pull it off if they wanted to.

oh no dude u got me wrong, i DONT doubt they can do it.....and i mean im FOR this, i think it will be a great and an amazing feature. But its just i dunno, it seems a bit too early for something this AMAZING, i mean is the CELL really that good? I can see something like this being made, and i see it made by none other than SONY...but 2006? i was expecting this in like 2020s =D
I guess we will just have to wait and see

LOL, man one teraflop is an amazing amount of power, its a 35th as powerful as the most powerful super-computer on the entire planet and on top of that the cell is going to be based on a grid processor.
In other words if they sell 100 million PS3's it will equate to a network with 100 million teraflops of processing power, thats 2,857,142 times more powerful than the NEC super-computer.
I think something thats 3 million times the power of an NEC super computer should easily be able to pull it off.
P.S. some people believe the PS3 will be 4 to 8 teraflops, imagine that now.

well do u atleast see how i got that MATRIXish Cyber World idea from SONY? that Quote is pretty weird, because it does make it seem as just ""downloading movies, music and games off the internet"" but at the same time hes talkin about buildings and citizens and vehicles and cities and all that crap....and at the end he states that ITS THE NEW BROADBAND ENTERTAINMENT....i mean downloading movies has been around since 56K times.......I mean if this CYBER WORLD is really what i think it is, i mean hell id get the kick out of PS3 just by visiting this crazy unreal world =D
yea man its friggin crazy....and i dunno it seems like SONY really HAS beat all the friggin laws and DID infact jump into the future =D
i just hope all this isnt just another on of SONYs HYPED Schemes you know? I mean SONY has lost this GEN Console war in some places.....like THE ONLINE GAMING, which is HUGE. Im just hoping PS3 will make up for that and kick M$ ack to PC world =D

The guy had a pretty strong accent which confused me quite a bit, I can remember watching it and wishing I could understand the words and since Ive only seen it once and like a week plus ago too im not too clear about the details, making such a world would take a lot of time but if the specs of the PS3 are right and they go ahead with the whole grid computering thing then theyve already got there.
It seems pretty damn crazy though, people walking around in an open world like a big sims project, would take forever to set up but it would be pretty bad ass if they could set it up and theyd make the money back quite fast considering they would have an enormous audience, maybe well see something like this in the last days of PS3.
If they did get this project set up PS3 would be an all dominating gaming machine NO DOUBT.
ibrooklyn
05-23-2004, 07:48 PM
Yea man he did have a nasty accent....but i cant hate, atleast hes Bilingual and tahst always a good thing. If he was a bit clearer on what he was saying...
But dude wouldnt something like this just KILL GTA series? i mean think about it why buy GTA when u got this? unless ofcourse Cyber world would have Cyber cops that would catch u and put u in jail and ud get a suspencion from cyber world for a period of time.... =x
lmao wow wtf am i talkin about.....i mean theres no info on Cyber World so it can just be "downloading games and movies" hah :-)
i guess i just took it wrong, i mean NONE of the big gaming sites like IGN, CVG, or Gamespto are talkin about this

they are probably going to make it like you can surf the web in a real time 3d environment instead of the usual 2d web pages. also there are a whole bunch of cyber worlds out there already. like everyquest online etc. those are cyber worlds. i mean you can't do everything you want, but the world runs if your there if not. that accounts as a cyber world too. so making a cyber world community as an OS for ps3 could be accomplishable(take lots of time to make and lots of money) but none the less it can be done with ps3. i don't see being done this generation but it can be done. that's something that it's not out of our reach.

Why not make the CyberWorld like MS's XBoxLive (which no doubt rocks and will only get better) and also make free servers available, which is Sony's plan anyways. Personally I wouldn't mind spending only $50 a year to have the easy of online gaming the way Live does it. But for the ppl who don't want to spend the money, have them connect to game-specific servers like the way PS2 does it now. You get the best of both worlds.
I'm a Sony fan all the way b/c I hate the way MS does business. But unlike Windows, XBoxLive is actually a good product. If Sony doesn't come up with a way to counter Live, they'll get a slooow start with online gaming.

Free Servers on PS3....SONYs Plan?? lol dude u got some bad info
Theres no way in HELL were getting FREE servers with PS3....free servers = BAD IDEA + Lots of UNSTABILITY + LAG and SONY isnt about to FAIL online with 2 systems in a row =\
Sony has some great ideas for ONLINE with PS3 but it will cost money, trust me the servers will not be free

Well PS2Online wasnt really a failure - it just started too late.
They were forced into it by Microsoft. I remember reading magazine after magazine about when the PS2 was going to go online, and it didn't look like it was going to happen. As soon as word got out about Microsoft releasing their own online service Sony shit their pants and rushed a broadband adaptor out in order to compete.
The start to the PS2 online life was pitiful, there was two titles wasn't there? Twisted metal black, which reportedly was pants and another title which I can't remember.

Yeah Sony werent ready to go online this generation, damn I think thats about to change now though with Sony's music services and the HDD coming out, also FF11 is kinda cool so ill have to grudgingly by a HDD.
Sony's online plans werent simple online play they had some pretty outrageous online plans that they talked about before the launch of PS2 but I dont think they were aiming for that this generation.
I bought PSM2 yesterday and they gave FFXI quite a good review, 85 was the score as far as I can remember.

I agree. It was that plus Microsoft's console was more powerful, making Sony's chances of keeping a fanbase even smaller.

Yeah, they got more online gamers... Although that's also thanks to the fact that there's more PS2 owners. Ratio-wise, XBox gamers have a FAR higher online gamer PERCENTAGE then PS2.

Yeah but consider you have to pay a 100 quid to get an adapter and they havent been made avalable over the world so it hits them hard, besides the only good online PS2 game is FFXI right now.
If a tenth of PS2 owners buy an adapter this year thats puts online 8 million people compared to like 0.8 million online XBoys.
Ok heres the deal with the Cell Processor. The PS3 is supposed to have an always-on broadband connection. The cell processor shares processing power with all the other PS3s out there in the world. The whole Cyber-World thing is basically Sony's version of XBL, just the people closest to your are gonna be your city neighbors. And you will gain processing power from your city-neighbors. So then with the boost with all you neighbor's processing power that they aren't using, you get extreme power. So its a neighborhood of sharing processing power even if you aren't even using your PS3. And there might not be a subscription fee seeing as everybody's PS3 will be running the server itself. So information is constantly running through all the PS3s. and you guys got it all wrong, its not literally a Cyber-WORLD. Just a link-up of all the ps3s as a sort of network. Then you are able to communicate with others from all throughout a world. So sorta like a second internet meant only for the PS3.
The_One

Yeah but consider you have to pay a 100 quid to get an adapter and they havent been made avalable over the world so it hits them hard, besides the only good online PS2 game is FFXI right now. More or less... SOCOM/SOCOM II and FFXI. Unless you don't like shooters, then basically FFXI, but then, there's fee for FFXI. I'll be looking forward to AC: Nexus (Armored Core for those of you that don't know what AC stands for). It's suppose to FINALLY have Online play (They stripped it from 3 when they were suppose to...).

You people in the UK get ripped off on a daily basis. 100 bucks for an adaptor? I pay $79 for one and if you do your math you'll see that its cheaper (currency conversion)

Blah, no one will know until it actually happens. So it's all a speculation.
ok, im a bit confused, is this some sort of online game, and is it comeing with the PS3??? or is it like a game loby you can walk around and meet people to play games with. If so, what is it about downloading stuff???
Can someone explain this in simple terms, or do you even know???

Cyber-world is most likely this. You guys are forgetting something. In theory, the Cell chip could expand it's calculations inifinitely. For example, take if my ps3 had a cell chip inside of it and i go online. Then my friend who also has a ps3 with a cell chip inside goes online too. Now take one million people and more going online(wireless) from various products whether computer, ps3, T.V. or whatever or just say for the sake of this example they go online through ps3. Through distributed processing and computing the graphics of the game and the calculations could in theory jump infinitely every time a person goes online with their ps3. Also, you can consider Cyber-world as xbox live, but with movies and music that you can download on your computer or maybe ps3. It's like a server or more where Sony could charge you 20 dollars a year and offer you three things at one once from that server. Movies, games, and music to download to your computer, or ps3, and etc...
Also the ps2 can do most of the xbox live functions, if not all, like for example the freinds list function of xbox live. For one, if sony mandated that every developer to put in this small short amount of code into their game if the game has or is planning to have online play or capabililties. From there, sony can leave the developer to handle their own server as they wish to (EA for example). Also, notice that SCEA runs the servers for FFXI here in North America while Square-Enix runs the servers for Japan.

I'm sure the Cell will be powerful,as well as the workstation, but not as powerful as a lot of you are making it seem.Infinity?Seriously,I wouldn't even hold my breath for that.Don't get me wrong,in the pass,Sony has said a lot of things in which they were hoping to achieve but failed in,but one things pretty clear, they have managed to out perform their closest rivals most of the time while striving for such goals. This is all I'm looking for next-gen.

MAYBE Cyber-World could do some,if not all,of the Xbox Live functions, but it still remains vague to how this world will work. All we really know is that this Cell will be able to communicate with other Cells, and that's it.Sony may be planning a special place for these Cell users to meet up/merge with one another online -- kinda like KaZza.Maybe this is what they mean by it getting bigger and more powerful. We don't know, and I'm not even going to attempt to crack it because it makes my head hurt. :D
