Hey guyz.Yeah, you.Could you help me out with something?
Ok...I had a PS2 but it got busted.Thing is, Im probably goin to buy one again. But I need reasons.Till now the only things that have made me want to buy a PS2 again is HDLoader (http://www.hdloader.com) , emulators and MGS 3.But I need more.
Does anyone know of any "Homebrew" programs made to enhance the PS2?I mean things like the Divx Media Player I fell upon the other day. Also the PS2 has a Ethernet adaptor. Is it possible to connect your PC with the PS2 to exchange files? Is the PS2 capable of browsing through these files and opening them (with the correct program). In the end, the question is, is the PS2 capable of having an OS.And when I say OS I dont mean that lowsy browser the PS2 has inside by default, but a fully-fleged OS.
I've seen Linux for PS2.Does that make the PS2 a equalent to a 300 mhz PC with linux or are there catches?I've read that the PS2 will not be able to read cd-r s when running on linux because sony made the PS2 read only cds of HER choice and not your everyday, home-written cds.But they never mentioned if this is bypassed when having a modchip installed.Has anybody tried PS2 Linux? If yes, could you answer my questions? Also, even if you are not able to add content by cds, are you able to add content by network? (Downloading things from the net with linux's browser)
Anyways, thats all, I would be more than happy to see people helping me with these things. Also I would be more than happy if you provided links with places I can find "Homebrew Software".

I heard people not only running Linux, using the Internet as a normal PC and playing copied games with new modchips, but actually changing the Drive to a CD burner or even DVD burner, some people have too much free time on their hands. I just sold my PS2 a little while ago,
but a reason to buy a new is Progressive scan, HD, Killzone, MSG 3, and GT4 to name a few.
You can also buy pre-modded PS2 from India.

It sounds as though you want a PC not a game console. If that is the case- buy a PC. PS2 is designed for games and only excels at games.

I have a PC and I'm looking for something diffrent. It would be nice to have a device that has 50 PS2 games in its HDD and has its OS for storing files and surfing the net or whatever.I like that kinda stuff.I really do.
And I'm not buying a PS2 from INDIA! Afganistan is much more trustworthy.

I just sold my PS2 a little while ago, Why's that?
Also the PS2 has a Ethernet adaptor. Is it possible to connect your PC with the PS2 to exchange files? If you have PS2 Linux installed, most likely.

And how many hours can you record straight with 4.7GBs?
Whatis says 133 minutes, but that doesn't sound right.

Why doesn't it sound right :?? Sound about right to me.
133 minutes in MPEG-2 format, I guess that's right. It's just that films over that amount of time must use a different format.

Just burn them in the DivX/XviD codec. About 200 minutes high qualtiy.

Just burn them in the DivX/XviD codec. About 200 minutes high qualtiy. But you won't be able to watch them as DVDs... don't they need to be in vid format to be able to be played on a DVD player?

The Linux kit allows you to run a complete and functional distribution of Linux on the PlayStation 2 system, and gives you access to the hardware for graphics development. Download a wealth of Linux programs--HTML editors, multimedia players, programming environments, office solutions, etc.
