Any idea of whether we get all the tracks from the start? Because it's sounding like single player is going to be another boring adventure.
"Another post by Nick moaning about GT's non existant AI"
Did you notice how dumb the AI STILL is in prologue?

What AI?
To be honest, I only think I'll bother with this if it has a worthwhile online mode. Seems like single player will be just as uninspiring as with past games in the series.
I'm too much of a fan of the series to let it pass, I need my fix.

Enthusia and Forza (Xbox) are looking worthy racing sims. And there's plenty of great racing action on the way in the form of Outrun 2 and Burnout 3.

According to most mags the AI has not been altered for GT4 one bit. It's close to release in Japan and it's not looking good.
I wouldn't be so pessimistic about it yet, you haven't actually played it yourself yet (final code) and from what I gather you're a pretty Opinionated guy, so don't let the opinions of the press effect your stance on the game. I've noticed you've become VERY anti-Sony ever sence you started talking about getting an X-box. Could we be losing you to the darkside? :P

I would guess that they'd do something similar to A-spec, as in you unlock the tracks as you progress.
And as for the AI, well, what AI? The cars just stick to the exact path, and don't really do anything else. IF you're in the way, then you'll get hit, why bother going around my car when you can go through it? :)

Seen as they are going to have a car customize feature it may give the game a bit of a boost and excitment.

You never saw my running battles with Makaveli then? I'm trying to be more positive about Sony now, we've been starved of quality games on PS2 for a year now, but there's some good stuff coming :D
I'm sure Kaz has been working away and making sure this GT will be full of excitement and he's keeping hush hush about it. I'm sure he has heard enough Criticisms in the past to ammend the mistakes made in GT3... Well, I hope anyway.
to be honest with you I haven't bought an awful lot of games in a while, this would be due to me being unemployed. I have noticed one thing though... When I decide to buy a game I walk in, look around for 20 minutes and decide not to buy a game. Just because I can't see anything that I'll enjoy. I'm talking about new releases here, so I guess the next time I go to buy a game it'll have to be something that has been out for a while, such as ICO.

Multiplayer should be great as long as there's no problems. I'll play it online instead of single player.
I found GT3 a little boring in single player anyway.
I've found it boring up to 75% and haven't played it sence. The game itself it massive and gives you plenty to choose from, but if the material that you have cannot be used in a way deemed fun after a month or two it just becomes dull and unplayable.

I hope you do realize that good AI is just regular AI made to be stupid, otherwise the computer would rape the floor with you, the program knows where you are at all times, so in GT A-Spec it does just that, plow right through you, if you make it roaming, then it could pass you without touching you.
That seems to be the trouble, if they make it really good, then we wouldn't really stand much of a chance.
KlawHammer
07-22-2004, 11:08 AM
And the game reviewers over at GameSpy.com will just criticize the AI for being too hard, and if its too easy they'll complain about that as well... :P :P
Most people compain about the AI not being human like enough, as humans do tend to make mistakes and have a spin or two. I really think that there should be more than 6 cars on the track at once. I've noticed that once you're ahead of the pack it tends to get really dull, expecially in the endurance races.
ultimategamer2004
07-22-2004, 09:15 PM
Yeah there isnt alot of fun to be had when well infront in endurance races it is very dull! If you car is powerful enoungh you can stay behind the leader than on the last lap overtake  That will piss him off!
That's what happens a lot of the time. Even if you make a mistake, you can simply overtake everywhere in a matter of seconds, because your car is ridiculously fast.

Back to the bit about the endurance races being too easy. I used a Gillet Vertigo on the Grand Valley endurance race. Yes it was a bit more powerful than the competition but it was the most fun i have had in a race for years. The pit stops were the thing that kept it close! The comp cars dont use tyres half as much as the human players do!!

Don't whine about the graphics, the game looks amazing. PS2 may have 294Mhz, but this game looks better then any racer to date on any PC or console, just amazing. I guess the great news now is Polyphony Digital will make so much money on this game, they will be making the PS3 version in no time.

any reports on the gameplay? customization wise and stuff, i haven't played gt since gt2, will there be made a lot of changes, will you be able to customise a lot of stuff/ more than in previous versions, ect? I'd be thankful if someone could answer this.

I don't know how much GT4's costomizations have improved over the past three games. But I can tell you that they've already been good and will probably only get better. That would be nice if there was a way to do exterior modifications like emblems, spoilers, ect. Maybe you can. I need to read up on it.

Wooo!
Saleen's gonna be here. All i need now to complete my trio of cars is the koenigsegg!!!!! Those are the three cars ill need for the game
(Mclaren F1, Saleen S7 and that!)
In terms or customization I don't see the need to improve GT4 that much. If you mean customization in terms of ascetic purposes I don't think we're going to be able to add 20 inch rims and neon lights. Thank god.

I don't think anybody expects those type of costomizations from Gran Turismo. After all its not a street racing game. I could see body modifications like spoilers, exhaust mods, and other things like that that might effect your cars performance to an extent..
I still don't think that we're going to see any modifications that will have visual impact on the game, I could be wrong but I'll take a guess and say that we won't.
I'd really like to be proven wrong here, hopefully Polyphony will deliver!

Mind you, this wasn't just a rehashed E3 version, but an even fresher shiny spinning disc, you diggity dig? 114 cars and nine tracks along with the fancy new Heads-Up Display and the 3D polygonal pedestrians--that's what was so special about this new rev of Gran Turismo 4. Even better, it was like a ghost town near the GT4 kiosks--no annoying kids, no obnoxious fanboys, just the newest version of GT4 on the planet all to ourselves. We could dissect and obsess over every track, car and pixel. Well, alcohol does a lot to impede concentration and one's attention span, but we did manage to get some good time behind the wheel--er, DualShock 2.
It doesn't take rocket scientist to know that the physics have been tweaked to near perfection. Even the pre-Beta build we tested at E3 started to feel worlds apart from the initial build we played at E3 2003. Plus, playing GT4 with a standard DualShock 2 controller isn't how it's meant to be played. Anyway, without the Logitech wheel, we were forced to take a deeper look at the game, versus just playing and enjoying the game.
A total of nine tracks were available for play. These are: Tsukuba Circuit, Fuji Speedway, Grand Canyon, New York, Citti di Aria, Nurburgring, George V Paris, Hong Kong and Costa di Amalfi--the latter four tracks being the newest we've seen for GT4. Some readers may remember our time with Nurburgring at E3, but this was the first time we could really get into examining Paris, HK and Capri.
Each of the new tracks has the same consistent look we've seen from the initial five courses, but benefits from being in a closer-to-complete game. The lighting in each of these tracks is spot-on, particularly true in Paris and Hong Kong, where the night lights cause a subtle glare off the cobblestone and pavement.
More than a year ago, we expected GT4 to be nothing more than a marginal improvement over GT3--that's what Gran Turismo Concept was so we expected the same again. We were way off. Compare GT4 to GT3 when you have a chance; the difference in visuals is insane. These two courses are excellent examples of lighting and reflecting mapping. Lights, reflections and the surrounding environments appear on the highly-detailed models like never before.

But the biggest news, at least to the discerning GT fan, is that Polyphony has put in place its 3D pedestrians. Long thought to be a Kazunori-pipedream this latest GT will, indeed, have semi-polygonal spectators. As the rendering engine is already taxing the aging PS2 near the max, some of the spectators will remain static, 2D billboards.
The 3D pedestrians aren't to the quality of, say, RalliSport Challenge, but they're much better than the previously fat persuasion. Under close inspection there are seams and the models appear to be almost faked, but they do have multiple sides and don't get pixilated up close. Once again, the game isn't done yet and hasn't hit Beta. It's possible that these 3D models will be updated and enhanced before the game ships. But they're in there.
Even the first five tracks get revised art treatment in the form of slightly improved textures (in some areas) and the newly-3D spectators. As mentioned above, the tracks have a mix of 2D and 3D spectators, with the lower-quality billboards appearing further away. There is definitely some visual progress being made as the game gets closer to being a finished product.
Let's go over the Heads-Up Display as it looks to be the final one we'll see in the game. We were unsure if this was the case at E3--as many things change from first-playables to final, boxed copies. Seeing as the few gameplay screens feature this HUD, unchanged, it's pretty much the one we'll see come this November. Note that the display is a lot busier than it used to be, but has a lot more pertinent information. The brake/throttle display is now integrated and you want have to pause and press Select to view it. We have yet to see the modified display for those who choose to see wheel-position.

1. Position/Lap
Basic stuff here, your position is monitored here. Hopefully, you'll see 1 most of the time. This is your current lap and total number of laps--this will change depending on settings as well as venue chosen.
2. Map
Here's the fancy map with your current location in blue and first in red. Go git 'em!
3. Rear View/Current Laptime
It's unlikely the rear view will look this fancy. Don't expect much in terms of detail except for the road and cars behind you. Current laptime is listed directly below the rear view
4. Best Laptime/Last Lap
The best laptime followed by your last lap time. We're not sure whether or not we'll be allowed to download ghosts and update best laptime with those found on the Internet.
5. TCS/ Handbrake
Traction Control is represented by an exclamation point with a triangle. It lights up anytime the wheels slip. The exclamation point in a circle lights up anytime you press the handbrake button.
6. Speedo/digital to right
An analog speedometer lists speed, but you'll probably look at the digital speedo in the middle of the HUD most of the time, anyway.
7. Brake meter
This thin, curved meter turns fills up with red the more you press the brake button. It's an easy way to gauge how hard you're slamming on the brakes.
8. Suggested gear/current gear
There's no easier way to enter and exit the turns than with this. The top number represents the gear you should be in. The bottom number represents your current gear. The suggested gear is dependent on the track and car.
9. G-Meter
Here's where it's at, the G-meter, measuring up to 2 lateral Gs in either direction. We're not sure how it'll play into driving, but, for now, it's there.
10. Accel meter
This thin, curved meter turns fills up with blue the more you press the throttle button. It's an easy way to gauge how heavy your right foot is.
11. Tachometer
Engine revs per minute, nice and easy.
12. Boost gauge
Displays boost in forced induction vehicles (super and turbocharged). Negative numbers and you're running on engine power alone, once it goes past 0 (into positive boost) you're boosting.
13. Oil/fuel
There was previously an oil gauge, but there is also a fuel gauge, too, leading us to believe that the endurance races will have you pit in for more than just tires and oil this time around.

That's what happens a lot of the time. Even if you make a mistake, you can simply overtake everywhere in a matter of seconds, because your car is ridiculously fast. try using a car made for that class not just using the most powerfull car you can grab :)

if you use the escudo on a track with very little corners it will pass anything but for a challange get a car simalar to the oponents!

[quote=specialpro]In terms or customization I don't see the need to improve GT4 that much. If you mean customization in terms of ascetic purposes I don't think we're going to be able to add 20 inch rims and neon lights. Thank god. realy that would be the Shizzzzzle NOT!....

I just think that it's good these guys have devoted their time and effort into including as many cars as they can, as it'll no doubt please a wider audience.

sorry I had to put this here, it's off-topic and about gt3, but i didn't wanna start a thread, and found no help on other forums. here goes.
In gt3, i drive a fully tuned viper gts. It's got great acceleration and top speed (about 268 mph), and when i put on some super soft racing tires it handles great. Just one problem. When i race in professional mode against race cars, after a lap or two, my viper starts handling like a fucking brick. it's seriously retarded, it won't brake, or turn, nothing. I thought it would help if i lowered its hp to 800, but it still sucks. I put on some medium tires and they just don't have enough grip for bendy tracks so i'm always last. anyone recommend a setting or something which will help my car turn better but not oversteer? site links is good too, or a great car which handles good and has great speed would be appreciated. Also suggest how i get it if it must be won though please. please help me out, this is really frustrating.
ultimategamer2004

The viper is ver heavy and the tires fade fast so thats probably the prob its the same with me but i only race with it in oval races.

over at http://www.gtplanet.net/ there is a 353MB AVI file (720 x 400 pixels; DivX 5.x) that shows one complete lap (20.8 kilometers, 73 bends) of the world famous Nurburgring Nordschleife as rendered in Gran Turismo 4. for those not familiar with this track, it's a dedicated strip of road that entirely encircles a small town in Germany. when the Ring is open to the public, drivers will have to pay a small fee (14 Euros) for the privilege of racing along this track once. five laps will cost you 56 Euros. year-round unlimited access is 700 Euros. for many real-life professional circuit racers, the Nurburgring Nordschleife is the greatest and most challenging race circuit in the world. according to Kazunori Yamauchi, producer of the Gran Turismo franchise, lap times in GT4 for the Nurburgring Nordschleife is accurate to within 1% of the lap times recorded on the actual Ring.

Hmmmm. With a fully tuned car, you could probably do it faster than any one ever could. I don't see a porche go from 0-60 in 2.7 seconds and have a max speed of 435 kilometres per hour in real life, but it can here. But yeah, it migh just be hard to do because of all the turns.

Oh man, that's a rough story. Unfortunately, if you sell to GameStop or a similar store, you'll get, literally, one-third of what the item's actually worth. Here are a few good examples straight from GameStop: ("Sell-To" being you, the consumer, "selling" the item to GameStop.)
1. Nintendo 64 console.
Store Price: $14.99
Sell-To Price: $4.99
2. Nintendo 64 Expansion Pak.
Store Price: $24.99
Sell-To Price: $7.00
3. Nintendo 64 Controller (Official).
Store Price: $14.99
Sell-To Price: $4.00
Big differences there. I understand GameStop wants a large percentage for the sake of business, but I think these "Sell-To Estimates" are way too low. The moral of Gamingmonkey's story - if you have the time and energy to sell elsewhere, do it! (I recommend eBay and Half.com, by the way.)

I was thinking that maybe after Gran Turismo 4 is out, will they release another version onto the PS2, ie GT Concept style or will they concentrate all their efforts on GT5. I'm thinking the latter will be that case, but I just wanted to check anyway.
My reason for asking this is because its going to be atleast 2 years until Gran Turismo 5 is out on the PS3. GT Concept came out just about 1 year afer the release of GT3.

Eurogamer: So what's changed about GT4 since we saw it last year?
Kazunori Yamauchi: I can't remember all the details [of what has changed since then], but the physics generation has improved significantly since last year, there's been the addition of the Nurburgring track, the driver physics have improved significantly as well in comparison to last year. Also the spectators have been improved since last year - last year they were flat, this year they're in 3D, and of course we cannot forget the photo addition [that allows users to take almost lifelike stills in the game and print them out postcard size via a USB printer].
Eurogamer: Is the online mode now to your satisfaction? Have you managed to correct the lag issues that you were talking about last year?
Kazunori Yamauchi: The network quality and network head to head play quality has improved significantly. Last year I was uncomfortable with the latency. This year the latency has been taken care of.
Eurogamer: Has that been the main reason for the extended development time?
Kazunori Yamauchi: Well, that isn't everything - but it is, of course, one of the factors.
Eurogamer: What are the other reasons, then?
Kazunori Yamauchi: Obviously the number one reason was the development and creation of the cars - the modelling of the cars, and of course the modelling of every track in which this has taken over one year since we first paid a visit to do the shooting, and since then to complete for GT has taken a year or maybe more - so those are also other factors which add to that delay.
One very important factor - probably the biggest - is in the past year is we have had to supply ten master gold disks across the year to the car manufacturers, so that adds a lot of weight onto the workload for the team to develop the game in parallel and do all the collaboration disks.
Eurogamer: Is this the last game on PlayStation 2 game from Polyphony - if so, can we assume your next project will be on PlayStation 3?
Kazunori Yamauchi: That's correct.
Eurogamer: Is there anything you can tell us about the PSP version?
Kazunori Yamauchi: Unfortunately there's very little we can talk to you about regarding the PSP. There is much to be discussed and decided, however one thing I'd like to convey conceptually especially, is that just because it's a handheld, I don't want it to just be GT4 on PSP shaved off and diluted. I'd rather it was the full specification on PSP - that's the concept. Other than that, there's really not much more I can say.
Their next game will be GT5 for PS3. :)

Gran Turismo 4 stalled until "winter"
Sony's official Japanese release schedule says Polyphony's anticipated racer has been delayed.
On its official Japanese release calendar (http://www.playstation.jp/scej/title/ps2_pre.html), Sony Computer Entertainment has changed the release date of Gran Turismo 4 from "fall" to "winter." Since it did not label the game "winter 2004," this raises the possibility that the game may not come out this year. However, at the current time, Gran Turismo 4's official site (http://www.playstation.jp/scej/title/gt4/), which is also hosted by Sony, still refers to the game as a "fall" release.
Gran Turismo 4 had been tentatively scheduled to ship in November in North America. Since SCEA reps were unavailable for comment as of press time, it is unclear if the Japanese delay will affect the game's release on the other side of the Pacific.

The article was posted on Gamespot two days ago I think, and if you read the article, you will notice that November is the release for Japan. So who knows when we'll end up getting it.
However, it's a tad unclear at this stage whether the Japan date listing is accurate, the official Japanese website for GT4 still apparently listing the game as an Autumn or 'Fall' release. And just to confuse things further, certain quarters are also highlighting the fact that the 'Winter' release appearing on the release calendar is devoid of a 2004 tag, leading to speculation that GT4 may not make it out this year at all. Hmmm.

The unthinkable has happened - According to IGN's latest article (http://ps2.ign.com/articles/550/550786p1.html?fromint=1), Gran Turismo 4 will not, initially, feature an Online Mode:
To make this date, SCE announced that the game would be missing its heavily touted online mode of play. The company plans on releasing a separate Online-compatible version of the game in the future.
This is definitely rough news.

That's harsh. They should have just pushed the release date further back. Well atleast there will be an online version later, although I don't think all this hassle will improve sales.

TGS 2004: Gran Turismo 4 Goes Offline
No online, new B-Spec mode. Due out in December.
September 24, 2004 - At a Tokyo Game Show press event today, Sony Computer Entertainment announced a Japanese release date for Gran Turismo 4. The title will indeed arrive this year, with a release date planned for December 3. American and European releases will also take place in early December with America getting a tentative date of December 14.
To make this date, SCE announced that the game would be missing its heavily touted online mode of play. The company plans on releasing a separate Online-compatible version of the game in the future.
SCE confirmed some final details on what we can expect from the game. A total of over 650 cars will be available in the title, far more than the Gran Turismo 3 count. Commenting on the number of cars, series producer Kasunori Yamauchi said "The world of cars may appear incredibly large, but it's actually a collection of small worlds. In order to cover the interests of all users, we deemed it necessary to include this many cars."
Yamauchi also confirmed that over fifty courses would make it into the game. These can be played in normal and reverse, making for over 100 varieties. The courses will include most of the courses that have appeared in the series so far along with new ones. The inclusion of so many courses is apparently part of one of the game's concepts of taking players on a journey through the world.
Also revealed at the press event was the game's new B-Spec mode of play. This mode focuses on the simulation side of the Gran Turismo series. Players customize their cars and send them out to the raceway for a hands-off race. The game automatically controls the car on the track, allowing the player to view the race in replay form. Players can interrupt the game with breaking and acceleration instructions if they see fit.
We'll have more on Gran Turismo 4 as TGS continues.
IT's online mode hasn't been cancelled they just removed it from the final version of the game to meet the deadline. but according to this article the company will release a seperate add on Maybe added to the HDD for the online mode later afterwards.

I still get GT4 with or with out online don't matter much to me any way , GT is by far the best driving game out there if i have to wait for GT 5 to have it so be it . Alot of people want gt4 now and online would have been great but face facts how many people will u think will play it online almost every gt game has sold 5 million plus copies and u can bet that they would not have been 5 million people playing GT4 online.
If they had to can the online mode to get game out fastter fine by me . People that will not buy game cause gt4 is not online are asses in my book. If bought every Gt game like i did and spend hours with it and it did not have online, i don't see why won't buy next cause online play has been taken out .

Wow. i'm very impressed. the surroundings look soooo much better than they did in gt3, and that was the only part of the game that needed fixing.
edit: one major annoying thing though, would be that in the replay, you can see the spectator's backs turned to your ride. and they don't seem to move then either, which is a shame cause it stands out.
I'm just checking out some of the videos now, hard to make out for me though because them seem to be poor quality... :?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they going to just release an add-on for online mode? While it sucks that they're not putting it into the main game, at least they're still doing it. From some of the reactions, it seems like they decided no online at all, yet if they will add it on later, I wouldn't be too disappointed.
However, this decision had really no effect on me. I played the last one for a long time without playing it online, although even if it was online, I wouldn't have played it online. If I play this one, I'll play it just like I played the others. It is nice to have the online option though.

Gran Turismo 4
At a press conference earlier today, Kazunori Yamauchi, president of Polyphony Digital, revealed a plethora of new information on Gran Turismo 4--most of it good. We'll get the bad news out of the way first, though, which is that Gran Turismo 4 will not be shipping with any online functionality. Yamauchi cited "challenges" with the European and Japanese online infrastructures as the reason behind the decision--challenges that would presumably have taken until well after the game's targeted December release date to overcome. Polyphony now plans to release an online version of the game (or at least a very similar game) sometime next year.
The focus of today's Gran Turismo 4 press conference was the game's newly announced B-Spec mode. Compatible with both the Arcade and Gran Turismo modes of play, the B-Spec option will essentially be an all-new way of playing (or not playing) the game. If you select the B-Spec option ahead of any race, you'll basically be choosing not to drive the car yourself but, instead, to just influence the way that the CPU driver in your seat does its job. You'll view the race from the same camera angles used in replays, and you'll determine how hard your driver pushes by hitting buttons numbered one (cruising) through five (driving on the edge). In addition to those buttons, you'll have the option to hit an overtake button that will see your driver actively trying to improve his position, and a button with a large letter "P" on it, which will have your driver pull into the pits at the next opportunity. Now, you might be thinking that the B-Spec mode is going to require you to do little more than stick your car on number five with the overtaking option highlighted. You'd be wrong.
For one thing, the CPU driver in your seat is capable of making mistakes, and is more likely to do so when he's driving aggressively. Yamauchi also pointed out that, in lengthy races, you'll need to look after your tires if you don't want to have to make lots of pit stops. Speaking of lengthy races, incidentally, Yamauchi--while demonstrating the B-Spec mode's Race Monitor screen--mentioned that it will be possible to speed up races by up to four times, so you could theoretically run the Le Mans 24 Hour race in just six hours. The Race Monitor screen, which updates on the fly, will allow you to check out the current race standings as well as the distances between each of the cars so that you might make more informed decisions as to how to have your driver proceed.
In addition to announcing the B-Spec mode, Yamauchi took a few minutes to go into greater detail about the game's photo mode--which was unveiled at E3 earlier this year. The photo mode will actually comprise two distinct methods for composing pictures: "photo travel" and "photo drive." The photo travel mode, which we got hands-on with at E3, will allow you to choose any car, place it in one of 15 different locations, and then shoot it from almost any angle imaginable. The photo drive mode, on the other hand, will allow you to take more action-oriented shots using race replays from any of the game's 50-plus tracks. The camera positions available to you in this mode will be more limited, but you'll still have over 300 to choose from at any time.
Among the 50-plus tracks in Gran Turismo 4 (not including the reverse versions) will be four that were unveiled for the first time today, namely El Capitan in Yosemite, California's Infineon Raceway, and Japan's Suzuka and Twin Ring Motegi circuits. Popular courses from previous Gran Turismo titles will also be in the game, and each has benefited from a GT4 makeover that not only makes them even more pleasing to the eye, but also, in the case of those based on real-life tracks, more realistic. The only newly announced course available to race in the Tokyo Game Show demo version of the game was El Capitan, so as soon as the press conference was over we took the opportunity to test-drive a few different cars there. The scenery was arguably the most beautiful we've ever seen in a racing game, with mountains and trees stretching far into the horizon. Yamauchi believes that Gran Turismo 4 players should be able to enjoy traveling the world as much as they enjoy driving, and with that in mind it's not difficult to see why the game would feature a track in the Yosemite National Park.
Among the cars we toured Yosemite in was the wedge-shaped Dome Zero concept car that dates back to the '70s--one of several cars that were revealed in Gran Turismo 4 for the first time today. Other models worthy of note that we got to see today (although not all of them were playable in the demo) included: the Mazda 6 MPS, which was only unveiled in Paris two days ago; the upcoming BMW M5; Toyota's Motor Triathlon Race Car, which looks like the 4x4 offspring of a Formula 1 car and an SUV; Jay Leno's one-of-a-kind Tank Car, which is roughly twice the size of any other car in the game; and Chrysler's 1886 Tri-Wheel. During his presentation, Yamauchi confirmed that the final number of cars in Gran Turismo will be in excess of 650 from 80 different manufacturers. He had apparently hoped to include twice as many cars as that at one point, but given that each car in the game takes a designer approximately a month to model, it simply wasn't possible.
Before wrapping up his presentation with the "no online play" bombshell, Yamauchi shared a few more new details about Gran Turismo 4: the game will feature Dolby Pro-Logic II support; you'll be able to fit no less than 1,000 cars in your garage this time around (as opposed to just 200 in GT3); and an in-game calendar will keep track of all of your significant achievements. Finally, the Japanese release for the game was confirmed for December 3, while North American and European releases were "targeted" for December 14.

you know LANs are way more fun with freinds you should try it. yes it requires effort and a large room but its so worth it. have you every tryed GT3 in 3Xscreen mode  you might get car sick... :P

Not stupid at all, actually just what i was thinking. Hopefully Sony will realise that people aren't going to shell out another 40 squid for an online enabled GT4. To be honest, the online mode wasn't one of the things that was essential. Otherwise the previous GT games wouldn't have sold by the bucketlod.
One other idea would be to release 2 tiers of GT4 online:
One of them would be the complete game with the online mode included. Then, they could release a stand alone online version (maybe around 20 quid) that worked with the save of GT4, that's probably entice more people to get it online.
Also, how will prologue's save affect GT4, just licenses? or will we get a little extra for paying 25 quid!

GT4 will be better then Forza no if, ands, or buts, simply because Forza is a XBox game and even the good XBox exclusive titles are cheap knock offs of other games or ideas and end up being overhype'd and/or over rated, Example:
Halo, Halo 2 Over hyped and over rated, based of a book because bungie and microsoft have never been able to come up with a good selling idea of their own.
Forza, based of GT4 because PG can't cut it and MS is again unoriginal.
Ninja Gaiden, Again Think DMC now replace Dante with Ryu, and the rest of the characters take theire allotted positions (i mean you can pretty much cut and paste and end up with the exact same story even final boss) even tho i thought Ninja Gaiden was good, i mean c'mon be more original even the menu screens and object screens look similiar.
More fargin' screens to have a gander at!

Good GRIEF. Are those graphics really from GRAN TURISMO GAMEPLAY or just some CG MOVIE ?? I never knew PS2 has the power to be able to do graphics like that. Looking at that I think even HALO 2 would run in the PS2 if it were to be built for the PS2 specifically and not PORTED. Don't those GRAPHICS look better than the best of XBOX GAMES ?? 8)

yeah they said that they will be releasing one later on but nothing confirmed yet and no release date either. i guess the only reason there isn't going to be an online mode coming right out the box is because sony want's it to hit the shelfs already. But i'm sure i read at IGN that online mode has not been discarded but postponed.
Would be good if they did release an expansion anyway, GT4 online would just be amazing.

Quite a lot of sources are saying that they're going to release an expansion/stand-alone version sometime in the future.
Just a shame that they won't be doing it straight away. Yet another GT title to wait ages for.
I know, but I'll be happy enough playing GT4. :)

Looks like we, Europeans will have to wait until Q1 ’05 for GT4...
Son of a bitch. I can't believe how long we've been waiting on this game... It'll be worth the wait mind you. :D

I just can’t stand this. Man, Europe was, is and will always be the pariah of video gaming… At least with all this “localization” I expect a decent PAL version (No screen borders, no speed loss).
On second thought, I’ll be at the States this Xmas. Maybe I’ll purchase the U.S. version after all…

.....Whatever you say
But anyway, Q1 isn't that much of a wait. San Andreas is out next week, Killzone a few weeks after that. Then we've got a number of Christmas releases, which I can't be bothered to list :)
It'll come around soon enough.
