This will probably be one of the 1st games I get if I get a PSP since I am a HUGE NBA fan, not to mention I love the gameplay of the Street series. I wonder if they will put some things in from NBA Street Vol 3 because some of the features in that game sounded great. I think their will be dunk contests and better control of dunks for more originality. Can't wait to play with Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady one of the new basketball games. 8)

Well I know Sony's NBA Shootout 2005 is a launch game.

Don't really like the Shootout series.
My ball games are NBA Live and NBA Street.Nothing beats them 2. EA really know now how to make a baller happy :)
This will be one of my 1st PSP games to.

Sega's ESPN NBA 2K4 is probably the best, in my opinion at least. Hopefully it'll be released on PSP soon.
I certainly don't like using the right stick in NBA Live on PS2. though obviously this won't be in the PSP version.

Too bad that game franchise isn't any good, or at least it isn't compared to the others.

I like Street, but I'm prefer ESPN Basketball over the Live series as well. Live REALLY was bad the past few year, except for last year when it gained a lot of ground that it had lost. Live should make it interesting this year, though, with it ability to make pretty unique dunks in a game and during a contest as well as adding more things such as a defensive counterpart to the unstoppable pro-hop. ESPN will have improve a pretty good amount since it sounds like EA is finally doing things right with Live.
Good call Nick on the right stick thing. I totally forgot about the PSP not having 2. I want to say that the stick was a big part of the dunk system in the new Live, but I can't remember. If it is, it may in Vol 3, and that would be pretty hard to create on the PSP. Oh well, the rest would still be fun. I wonder how ESPN would put it in as well on the PSP since they do require a little bit of use of the 2nd stick.

I used to play Sony's Total NBA 97 (former name for NBA Shootout) on PlayStation around my friend's back in 98, when for some reason me and my mates went basketball mad. It was by far the best basketball game on PlayStation, if not the best basketball game going, so what went wrong?

I don't recall ever playing that game. I never really got crazy for basketball until I was like 12-13, which about in 98-99, so I probably didn't play too many basketball games before that. Just a few like NBA Jam.
I really don't know what went wrong. Occasionally, they do a nice job in a game and put some nice features, but they still lack in areas that the other two big boys excel at. I remember reading about one of the Shootouts, can't remember which, that included making a player and getting him through the summer league. That really got me interested, but I then watched the animations and gameplay and was never really interested again. I heard that their last baseball game was actually pretty good, but unfortunately, it came out when ESPN and EA also created good games by their standards. Maybe they can ride that wave and make better games this year and possibly get some players in their fan base.
I don't really see that happening though.

When NBA Live 2004 came out it was the best ball game out.
ESPN 2K series is good, but Live 2004 kills.
Yeah, Total NBA was off the hook back in the day, that was the first ever ball game i bought.

I liked NBA Live 2004, and it was a HUGE improvement of the previous ones in the series, but IMO, ESPN barely beat it out. There were just a few things wrong with NBA Live that hurt it badly. The pro-hop, while a nice add-in, is unstoppable. I can stick in a PG rated 35 and just pro-hop them to death and he'll end up scoring 25 points. The franchise/dynasty mode wasn't too good from what I remember, although the little video things where nice. IIRC, free agents did bizarre things that didn't make any sense. Also, training camp seemed like a nice thing, but why would it DECREASE your skills instead of improving them?
Also, I think most of the reviews on the games that I've seen either had them tied or they gave the edge to ESPN, so I wouldn't say it killed all. It would have been nice had they somehow combined both the games since it seemed that both of them got some things right and both got some things wrong, although I just think that ESPN's problems were not quite as bad as NBA Live's problems.

Alot of reviewers are rating Sega ESPN NFL 2K5 higher than Madden NFL 2005, rather important as Madden NFL seems to be EA's biggest selling franchise.
Hope ESPN sells better anyway, I hate EA ;)

I, personally, kind of preferred ESPN's football games over Madden over the past few years, although it was always VERY close. This year, with it being only $20 or even around $15 at some places, there really isn't no reason not to get it, which is kind of funny since I don't have it and I'm a fan of their games. :?:
From what I hear, the graphics are great and ESPN does a good job of putting in an ESPN-type presentation. The weekly planner in the franchise would also be a big-time NFL fan's dream, although the franchise mode isn't really as deep as the Madden franchise with its owner settings as stuff like that. I'll probably give them both a shot once the NFL season gets nearer. Maybe then I could get the ESPN game for like $5-$10 used.
Boy oh boy, this turned from a PSP NBA Street game thread to a ESPN vs EA thread.
edit: I need lay off the smilies. I seem to be talking advantage of smilies I've never used before although that means most of my posts consist of :D, :),,:!:, and others.

Sega have always done great sports games, though their football (soccer) games are debateable.

I hope Midway makes NBA Ballers for PSP! I love that game. And I think that the ESPN series are better than the EA series. I hope that NBA Street for PSP is not the whole NBA Street 2 again. It should at least be a combination of NBA Street 2 and 3 with some new stuff.

i would be nice if the game brough some new things then just the normal NBA street 2 game but just the fact that i would be hand held add somthing new and multi-play with anyone any time instead of having to have your friend come over to your house to play you...you could just hook up right there that will be cool but the game should have somthing new i agree. 8)

Would've thought it would be better to port Vol. 2, being that it's been out for a while now, and it has a lot more added features.

It's up to EA, not Sony. Besides, this could actually be NBA Street 2, though not having played either game to great lengths I wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway.
