I'm a pretty big sports fan and the Astros are my favorite MLB team. This has been a crazy year for them. I started out with high hopes for the team when they got Clemens, and the Beltran deal also helped. Yet, for long part of the season, they were underachieving big time. I practically gave up on them a few months ago, yet I delighted to see them go through that awesome run to get into the playoffs. To make things even better, they won the series against the Braves, a team that had our number in the previous times we played them in the 1st rd. If getting past the 1st rd for the 1st time in franchise history wasn't enough, they had to win 3 straight to lead this series against the Cards. All I know is that Carlos Beltran and Brad Lidge are FREAKING AWESOME!
I just hope Carlos stays next year. I think Houston has really grown attached to him and I hope he feels the same way. Houston will try to offer him as much money as possible, but they couldn't get anywhere near what an offer from NY, Chicago, or another big market team could offer. I just hope this run has had an effect on him and maybe he'd like to stay in Houston. I know the fans would like that a lot. Speaking of the fans, they've been awesome for the Astros during their good play. IIRC, there were times when the crowd was creating something like 110 decibels yesterday, which compared to the 107 decibels, IIRC ,a 747 makes is pretty good. I sometimes feel as the fans in Houston aren't as loud as they should be, but they've been great.
I haven't really paid that much attention to the AL part of the playoffs, despite the coverage it is getting. It sounds like Boston and NY are having another one of those playoff series where they battle each other pretty hard.
The only "bad" thing about this is that I have to watch 3 sports all at once. Like I said, I'm a pretty big sports fan and I also watch a lot of the NFL and NBA (my favorite of the 3 by far). Just last week, I had to watch the Astros play, the Dallas Cowboys play and the Houston Rockets play in a preseason game. As a sports fan, it is hard to remember that Brad Lidge has pitched 5 innings in the last 3 days, that Vinny Testaverde hasn't played well lately, and that T-Mac has set up Yao Ming 3 times for alley-oops so far. I'm not really complaining though. :D
Go Astros!

That was a pretty good run as well. I wasn't quite expecting the Red Sox to make it that close, but then again, I didn't really think the Astros could even get close to smelling the playoffs, so I should stop counting teams out.
Not that it really matters, but out of the teams remaining, I like the Red Sox after the Astros, although that is more of a process of elimanation that actual choice. I can't really pick the Cards since we're playing them and I really, really don't like the Yankees (something about having a payroll that is more than twice that of the combined payroll of the Astros and Cards really gets to me).
BTW, I got to watch a little special on ESPNews (a sports new show for those who don't know) the other day. They had a doctor on the show that was explaining some of the injuries affecting some of the athletes in sports. For part of his demonstration, he talked about Curt Schilling's injury. I never really knew how painful it was until he explained it. I knew he had some sort of ankle injury, but the way the doctor explained the injury using a model of an ankle really put it into perspective. Kudos to Schilling for doing what he has done with the injury. Of course, the kudos are off if both our teams get to the WS. )
