have a PSP fanboy write a similar thing and the psp will win.

Also, he's basing everything on speculations.
"For the purposes of calculation, I’ll figure that the PSP costs Sony $320 per unit to manufacture"

Btw, i read through this and this is what i found:

That story is the worst bs ever created by a FANBOY, and it's on a NINTENDO site and it's made by a SEVENTEEN year old.

Everything he says is based on his own speculations of what he belives is true, for example
"Why does it seem to me that even at this low price point, Nintendo has found a way to make money on the system right out of the gate"

"I have been told that Sony had a press conference scheduled for the same day as Nintendo’s Gamers’ Summit regarding the PSP, and possibly a price point." - By who? No game sites reported this?

"Like I say, I don’t personally have hard proof of this, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if this were the case."

"At the price of $185, Sony is frankly out of their damn minds"
"I’ll figure that the PSP costs Sony $320 per unit to manufacture" - Over 50% of the parts are made in house, which means that they do not cost very much to produce.

"think about it this way: if Sony comes even close to their sales projections- say three million units are sold within the first year, Sony will have lost almost half a BILLION dollars." - Sony have said that if they sell 3 millions consoles by March 2005 then they'll have a profit on the PSP after that date.

"In fact, there’s evidence that the price of the LCD may even go up, as there’s a shortage of the materials needed to make them right now." - It's actually the opposit. Sony have already done the deals with Sharp. If they are able to sell the 3 million consoles by March then they won't sell the PSP for less then it's worth any more.

He then goes on to speak about how Sony only have Monitors, TV's, Music devices and PDA's to get money from. Too bad he missed that they make lots of cash from Laptops, Entertainment (Sony Pictures, Columbia Stuidos, Revoultion, Sony Pictures Classics, TriStar, and sad to say: MGM and UA will soon be also. Sony has had the highest money making studio for a several years now.) and Music (they own the rights to a lot of beatles songs etc etc).

"Shareholders simply won’t stand for financial indiscretion of this magnitude." - Strange seeing as investors have liked this low price since it will make sure that a lot of people buy the PSP.

"And in this decision, I think that you may see developers choose the highway; remember that this kind of strategy is what lost Nintendo its home-console crown." - Strange as real journalists like gamespot and ign said that developers will flock the PSP with it's low price point.

"there isn’t battery technology with the capacity, stamina, voltage output, size, and right price point for the PSP anywhere in the world, and it won’t be another ten years until there is." - So according to him, battery technology will stay the same for 10 years, how likely do you think that is?

"“Sony claims it’ll have up to three to six hours of on-time, though!”. Sure, maybe if the system’s on standby, with the screen off, and no disc in, the wireless disabled, and you don’t hit any buttons." - Too bad Sony has showed PRE-TGS when IGN and Gamespot was playing on PSP's with Metal Gear Acid and Ridge Racers through battery for over an hour, and throughout that time, none of the 3 battery notches dissapeared. Also, Sony have given out specific numbers of what you get on regular gaming standards (4 hours with games on brightest screen setting, 50% volume through headphones and wlan off, 6 hours with games on lowest screen setting, 50% volume through headphones and wlan off). What should you learn from this according to the 17 year old author? Always trust Nintendo, never Sony.

"So yes, WiFi will tend to cannibalize your battery life, but you’ll be using the proprietary wireless far more with the DS, methinks."
He makes assumptions again, nice.

"For one, if you ask developers about the DS, almost all of the quality studios seem genuinely excited to see what they can do with the system." - Yeah, like if you'd ask a PSP developer they'd say it was all trash?

"I assume that Nintendo has made sure development tools are similar to the GBA’s in many ways"
Once again, he assumes. It's not like creating games for handheld consoles are rockey science compared to regular consoles, it is NOT hard to do if you already know how to code on regular consoles.

"Sony has made the argument that the PSP is easy to develop for, as well. From what I can tell, their idea of easy is making PSP development as similar to the PS2 as possible." - Wrong again. The coding is not even close to the complexness which surround PS2 coding. Coding for the PSP is much more like coding for the PS1 which is much easier to code for.

"In addition to this simple case for developer interest is developer cost. Did you know that it costs less for developers to manufacture DS titles than GBA titles now?" - I can't even see where he'd get that from.

"There’s a problem with these, however- they’re console games in the sense that gamers must invest a sizable amount of time each time they play to progress or have much enjoyment." - EA has specifically said that the PSP platform is great because of the ability to have a nice 5 minute game or a 5 hour game. There's lots of game modes for everyone if they want to play games in titles like Tiger Woods and Need for Speed Underground.

"It may take a good five minutes of that time to fully configure and load up a race on GT4 if your as customize-savvy as me!" - It's his own choice if he wants to customize the car. He can just start up quick races if he wants to or he can spend his time customizing, that's up to him.

"On this issue, Sony’s got another problem- even if I’m dead wrong, and the portable market’s absolutely dying or the chance to sit hunched over or stand playing a portable system for hours at a time, they won’t be able to do it on the PSP, because the battery will die on them." - Yep, everyone play puzzle games for 6 hours. And after they've played for 6 hours, it's impossible for them to recharge the battery in 1-2 hours and then play again. Or not.

"This price point, while a bombshell, is by no means smart business" - Yeah i mean, there's just lots of new people that's going to buy the PSP now that wasnt thinking about it before, damn Sony are stupid, it's almost like if they want to sell consoles!

"I’ve done my best in this article to wipe out any fanboyistic tendencies and rather rely completely on facts and educated analysis" - I don't think I have EVER read a sentence with that much BS in it.
