Konami discusses plans for next instalment in the story of Snake

It's the news anxious MGS fans have been waiting to hear: there will be another game in Hideo Kojima's legendary stealth series.
During a financial report meeting Konami announced that it did indeed have plans for Metal Gear Solid 4. Motoyuki Yoshioka, the big cheese at Konami of Japan, said, "We have some ideas and we've had them for some time now. We will continue to create more games on the series."

No other information about the title was offered and no format was specified, although it's likely that the title will appear on a next-gen platform, most likely PS3. Since Snake Eater is barely finished - it's due for release in the US on November 17, Japan on December 16 and Europe early next year - it's unlikely that many of Konami's "ideas" are anything more than that at present. We can be sure, however, that Kojima-san will have plenty of brainwaves to get working on.

More news on Metal Gear Solid 4 as it sneaks out of the undergrowth.

Unusual, we usually go through a couple of months of Kojima denying he'll make another one before we hear anything official on a sequel.

Metal Gear Solid 4 Coming
Snake's next adventure already confirmed. More Winning Eleven too.

November 10, 2004 - Konami revealed promising results for the first half of its 2005 Fiscal Year today in addition to confirming the existence of several of its upcoming videogames. The most notable revelation, of course, was that preliminary work on Metal Gear Solid 4 has already begun -- though the system, release year, and creative team behind it was not revealed. Konami's representatives also expressed a strong desire to sell more units of Metal Gear Solid 3 in comparison to the award winning MGS2, which was released in late 2001.

The Japanese publisher also confirmed that two more Winning Eleven games are on the way as well. The first, J-League Winning Eleven 8 Asia Championship is an expansion title based on the J-League and similar Asian tournament circuit. It will use the same engine as WE8 but also feature several new rule changes and roster differences to reflect the difference in concept. The second announcement for the WE series came in the form of European Club Soccer Winning Eleven Tactics, a football management game that will likely fall under the same umbrella as titles such as Championship Manager and Football Manager.

In addition to these announcements, Konami also revealed that its operating income for the six-month period ending on September 30 came to 11.9 billion Yen ($111 million U.S.), which is up 45% over last year. Revenues were also up with totals equaling 114 billion Yen (1.1 billion U.S.) -- up 12.3%.

In addition to the two game announcements made earlier, Konami cemented Winning Eleven's status as the star of its financial success by revealing that World Soccer Winning Eleven 8 has already sold over a million copies and that Pro Evolution Soccer 4 is performing very well in Europe.

MGS3 isn't even out yet, but MGS4 is already coming.

We'll be back with more on all the titles above as further information becomes available.

Kojima said the same thing after Sons of liberty. But it isn't comfirmed that Kojima will be part of this game, altough it's very likely.

It doesn't necessarily tie up all of Snakes adventures because their can still be more. Hideo Kojima said that Snake Eater would be the last Metal Gear that he would personally work on because he said just coming up with those fantastic stories are very mentally taxing. :o

But, he said the same thing for Sons of Liberty, so if Konami still keeps up in revenue with this game; then the company will probably force Kojima to work on the next title. :D

I hope that Metal Gear Solid 4 takes place in the jungle also because the graphical power of the PS3 can be exploited to a much greater degree that way, and because Snake Eaters gameplay is just sooooooooo good (The demo is just insane! )!

I really expect more from metal gear. They should concentrate entirely on snake.

I think they should meke it longer...I'm not sure about snake eater, but it does not teke so many hours to pass sons of liberty. And with graphix, story, gameplay well almost everything so good at least I could have played it for tens of hours more.

IGN has mentioned that Metal gear3 is 20 to 25 hour-long game.

Took me 21 hours to beat MGS3. MGS3 is probably the best out of the series for me :D. Im hoping for a MGS4 on PS3, something to do with China or Russia with jungles and building(or a better balance of it).

I'll buy MGS4 if Kojima worked on it..if not..than forget it. I also want 40+ hours MGS4!!

The length is not as important as the gameplay as Halo 1's campaign proved. I would be glad if it were the same length as 3.

Bad news, Hideo Kojima won't participate in the development of Metal Gear Solid 4 and is stating developing a new game for another console.
MGS 4 I'll leave it up to my young boys. In the meantime I'd like to start working on something totally new on a new console and we're also thinking of a new Boktai.
