It would be good if they come up with a Configuration sistem like in PS2 so you can choose between TV resolution an High resolution 800x600 or even higher. For example: if I choose TV set resoultion 320x240 then the details in the game would be sharper for there is no use of buying some converters or adapters. And for hig res. 800x600 or higher to create a VGA cable that is not sync on green or whatever, so you can just plug onto monitor for newer monitors support zoom function.

1) so you think 800x600 is high res? if you fast forward from the dark ages, to the present day you will find PCs are running games at 1600x1200 with 2xAA and 8xAF. and High definition TVs are running at a resoluion of somthing like : 1920 x 1080
2)tv res is not 320x240.... for NTSC res its: 640x480 and PAL: res is:720 x 486.
PS2 can render interlaced so it renders every other line per frame = 640x240 effective.
I recomend you find some more stuff out about resolutions / TVs / rendering.

Tv res is 320 x 240, try to count, on standard tv, vertical and horizontal dots. On HDTV the resolution is much higher . And what you've said that NTSC is 640x480 and PAL is at 720x486 is not true. As you said PAL is more nearly in 16:9 format and, yes, it is true that games are runned at 1600 x 1200 but monitor that supports that kind of res. must be at least 19 inches. but in low freq (Hz). So you need to read more about standards.

Those are only LCD screens that have a low refresh rate... Most 19inch CRT Monitors have up to 75hz refresh rate. Even my 17 inch ahas 85hz refresh rate (or maybe 80hz... not sure).

However, if you have a hardcore top-of-the-shelf graphics card... then sure, use 1600 x 1200. Otherwise, it's pointless.

It hadn't, I just meant that it would be good option in PS3, for you know ( to Admin) there are various converters sold that are image sharpening etc. because the games are at, I think 640x480 or 800x600 so If you put a higher res on a tv it becomes blurry but I have Samsung 24" tv an in the menu i have sharpening option but it's still no good

Unless they changed the price only could get a qoute from a search engine. Might cost an arm and a leg to ship though.

1600x1200 resolution is just a big waste of resource, there's minimal difference between 1280x1024 and 1600x1200....
1600x1200 is not a waste of resources. I played Half-life2 in 1600x1200 and in my 21 inch monitor was way better than 1280x1024. In a smaller monitor the difference would be smaller perhaps, but even in 21 inches it was noticeable enough.
It’ll be great if PS3 can support 1920x1080i/p. (My 32inch Samsung LCD TV supports such a res :D )… Maybe PS3 games will have selectable resolution like PC games, from HDTV only 1920x1080 to standard NTSC/PAL 640x480/640x512…
BTW, I think official PAL resolution is 640x512. But with some tricks and hacks, it can be “stretched” up to 800x600 sometimes, hence the “weird” modes (704x480 or 720x486).

The native resolution even when not playing games should already be 1280x1024 :D.
However, to average Joes with 17incher's, it's not that big of a difference.
nin revolution can play on a comp monitor. Yes. Point?

It's good for PS3 to work on standard TV-s but It would be nice if it wouldn't use sync on green or if would had a VGA output connector because if somebody talks: Jeah philips monitor or whatever 600$ do you now how much is the average monthly salary in Europe or in America especially in countries like Romania or similar.

With so much power, I bet next gen systems will come with all sorts of video outputs. Maybe monitor support would be one of them.

Hi,
Sorry to but in but living in the UK I can confirm that the PAL res is 720 x 576.
Also I would imagine that the PS3 standard resolution would be 1280 x 720 as this is the minimum HI-Def resolution with 720p and 1080i being the 2 formats used by the TV companies.
Most sets bought now days, LCD, plasma and DLP(native res 720P) all support these standards.
Also I think the main players(SOny & Microsoft) will be marketing the next gen from the 'We can do Hi-Def angle'
Cheers
Paulh.

PAL, as I said, is not 720 x 576, PAL is just a type of system it can be at any res as NTSC or SECAM. Resolution varies from the type of your TV set and from the television network that sends signal. If you have a satelite reciever most analog tv channels are @ 320 x 240 standards, so if you plug your PS2 or PS3 into RCA input you will have an analog input. If you put a SVHS or DVI or VGA or full SCART system on your tv you will have an digital type of input.
