I thought I heard somewhere that WiFi was banned even during flight, even when you can use your other electronic devices. Makes sense because it is actively producing radio signals. Same reason you are not supposed to use a cell phone.

I head that you can turn it on and off. Is there not a switch that you can do that with?

I've heard phones ring on planes before, so I think it would work.

Yeah there is a switch to turn the WiFi on and off. It is on the side near the Memory Stick slot.

98GTi-VR6

and yes, the statement that the pilot or stew makes is that "you may now use apporved electronics, including, laptops, personal video players, gaming devices, and cd players." But they mention "you may not use any wireless device unless the wireless function is turned OFF"

There is an active movement to overturn the ban of cellphones on flights. Someone basically proved that it didn't really interfere with the planes electronics. I fly about 15 times per year, so I'd rather that ban stay in place. Better safe than sorry.

As for wifi on flights, I read a few months back that a couple of airlines were going to make wireless internet access available inflight in the next year or so on select flights.

gamingmonkey2004
12-02-2004, 01:03 AM
yea since 911 my parents jobs went downhill and we arnt flying as much as we did. And when we did the cell phone craze wasnt as big as it is now...my last flight was to Europe and over the ocean there isnt much cells anyway...i think the scare tactics of saying cell phones screw up everything is just a courtesy for other people wanting to sleep like in movie theaters

I'm not sure exactly how it works but I think the switch only has two positions on & off. The Power switch has 3 positions.

I think what happens is the PSP has to be set in the menu to either use a hotspot or go in to "Ad Hoc" mode. At least that is how it works with PC WiFi gear.
