Yep I've read that the PS3 is expected to be released at the EARLIEST, late final quarter of 2005 in Japan. Then it'll probably be another couple of months until it's released in the US. Unfortunately for me and others in the PAL region, it will be probably be released around 12 - 18 months after it's initial release in Japan. These obviously AREN'T fact at the moment, it's just what I think based on past history. As The_One said, no-one really knows when the PS3 will be released. I guess we'll have to wait until E3 2005.

Yeah. It really sucks to live in the PAL area when it comes to gaming. We always get the new stuff last and some of the very best games does not even get to be released in here at all  ! I have to start some serious thinking on moving to Japan  .

You are referring to Sons of liberty, right GUNDAMSEED? Well yeah it is true, but as far as I know it is also the only release we have had "better" than other regions, so it is a very small consolation after all...Oh man, there's so many games that pal players have probably missed, including me  . Those bustards won't even release the Xenosaga series here  !

I doubt that, look at how much we know now compared to how much we knew about the PS2 1 year before it released. We knew more about the PS2.

To be honest, I'm expecting the PS3 to start rolling out early - mid 2006 - Europe will be looking at a November 2006 release date ( look for an announcement saying 24th November - the same date as the PS2 launch, just as the PS2 was originally planned to release on the same day as the original PS1 ).

The Pal version of FFX had extra content and ZOE2 had better graphics than the US version (the engine was tweaked, more res and more fps).

Here in Portugal the consoles normally arrive when they are available in Europe, the games take 2 or 3 days more (sometimes 1 week) because of a stupid stamp that has to go on the back. Most of the games that donīt get the cover and back translated also get a giant sticker on the back, next to the other sticker... oh, did i mention that they donīt come off easily and leave glue all over the place?

I hope Sony can get the PS3 out in December, or they will have just lost to Microsoft. Allowing the Xenon to be out for nearly a year, just doesn't seem smart. Not to mention the fact that, Microsoft seems to be gaining a lot of Japanese support, in fact, some developers have stated that they will be supporting the Xenon just as much as the PS3. If they can get the PS3 out in Japan in December, they might have a chance to remain on top. If not, it would be very hard for them to make a comeback.

Are you sure the "graphical" increase wasn't due to the higher native resolution of PAL TV's :??

I don't know about ZOE2, but the US version of FFX looks clearly better than the PAL version  . Damn it! I really hope that the ps3 will be region free...It won't probably happen though :x . I'll just have to keep importing like I have done so far.

So far you have gave about the best general estimate for Ps3 releases. But the GDC and E3 are only a few months off so then we'll know.

if there is a bigger time span than 6 months between the Xbox 2 release and the PS3 than sony will have some major problems.

I also don't think that the european release will lag this far behind this time. They just can't afford to.

To be honest... if I have to wait 10 months for the PS3. I'll probably get an Xbox Next before the PS3 and believe me... I really don't want to.

Here are some PS3 launch predictions...

EA expects PS3 to arrive by mid-2006 - Jenson

Rob Fahey 10:13 08/10/2004

Next generation timescale could see Microsoft and Sony platforms launching together

Electronic Arts' CFO Warren Jenson has told an investment conference in the USA that the company currently expects the Xbox 2 and PS3 to launch within six months of each other, in a window beginning in late 2005.

Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia XIII Conference earlier this week, Jenson said that EA is expecting to see Microsoft launching Xbox 2 for the holiday season in 2005, with PS3 following no more than six months afterwards.

While Jenson did qualify his statements by saying that EA doesn't have all the information about the launches as yet, and that the information they do have isn't perfect, his comments will be seen as further confirmation of the widely rumoured Xbox 2 launch timescale.

They also place the PlayStation 3 closer on the timeline than some had expected; confusion over Sony's development plans for the console has led some commentators to push their guesses on the date out as far as winter 2006, but Jenson suggested that the firm may even launch as early as late 2005 to avoid giving Microsoft a significant head-start.

Aside from his comments on the next-generation platforms, the bulk of Jenson's presentation focused on Electronic Arts' performance within the games industry and on comparisons with similar market-leading companies in other media and technology industries.

He told the conference that EA has consistently grown the number of titles selling over a million units, from 13 titles in 2001 to 27 titles in 2004, and said that as of August 2004, EA has three franchises which have generated over a billion dollars in cumulative revenue - Madden NFL, FIFA Soccer and The Sims - and seven further titles which have generated over $500 million.

In comparing EA with other companies, Jenson showed that EA has a higher share of international revenue as a percentage of total revenue than News Corp, Disney, Time Warner or Viacom, proving that the firm's franchises have global appeal.

Sony points to 2006 PS3 ship date
By Tony Smith
Published Monday 29th November 2004 11:48 GMT
Sony's PlayStation 3 will not appear until 2006 at the earliest, the company tacitly confirmed today.

The company's joint announcement with IBM and Toshiba that the PS3's processor, 'Cell', will be detailed at February 2005's International Solid State Circuits Conference focuses on the chip's features. However, it also notes that Sony plans to "commercialise" Cell-based products in 2006 and confirms that Cell will be used in the company's "next-generation computer entertainment system".

That timeframe follows IBM's plan to begin limited Cell production at its East Fishkill, New York 300mm wafer fab in the second half of 2005. In the past, IBM has pointed to an H1 2005 production start.

It's a schedule that's by no means at odds with what Sony has said so far. Cell is due to be unveiled mid-Q1 2005, and the PS3 is expected to be formally announced before the end of Q1 2005, when Sony's 2005 fiscal year comes to a close. You wouldn't expect Sony to talk about PS3 until Cell was complete, so those two events are clearly in sync.

PS3 is expected to make its first public appearance at the E3 show next May, just after Sony begins shipping first-generation console software development kits (SDKs), which are likely to be software-only offerings given IBM's production scheduled. Sony's roadmap calls for a second-generation SDK to appear October 2005, which will presumably ship alongside early hardware, again given IBM's H2 production run.

Such a schedule would give developers a good shot at offering software for the console early to mid-2006, which is when the console is likely to appear. Ū

well i'm certainly hoping for a late 2005/early 2006(nov. '05-feb. '06) in japan, early/early-mid(mar.-may '06) in u.s. it really all matters on this year's e3 though and what the next gen xbox is offering. for example i think if microsoft decides not to make xbox 2 backwards compatible, it may be a big turn off for the casual gamers and sony can afford to push its release of the ps3 back a couple of months. if the xbox 2 is backwards compatible though, sooner is better than later for sony as microsoft is gaining a lot of ground and if sony waits too long microsoft will take the lead. there is also the fact that soon after the xbox 2 is released (as does every other console once it's next gen is released)the xbox's price will go down. so even if only the hardcore gamers will pay the big bucks for the new xbox 2, microsoft can and will make up for that with sales of it's lower priced xbox.

I don't know if Microsoft will be lowering their XBox prices though. They lose a lotof money on it as it is; do they want to lose more? Also, XBox has some popular games on it right now. A price drop near XBox 2 launch may entice gamers to go with that instead. I don't think Microsoft will want to be in a position where they are competing with themselves. Whether they have a backwards compatability or not will certainly be big issue for them.
