It is in an article of the Investors.com site devoted to the hard disks which one learns that, according to several analysts, the next console of Sony could be seen equipping with such a peripheral. /babel fish fr-eng/

The next generation of the Sony (SNE) PlayStation will also contain a hard drive, analysts say.

nice find. you only need the second link to get to the article tho.

this is awesome news. i'm hoping sony uses a smaller laptop-like hd so the overall system can be small.

Actually this is really not new. It's been known for awhile that Sony might include an HDD on PS3 or have more than two version of the console.

... sure, but we are hoping for a HDD in the "BASIC" PS3 version.

Actually no. There hasn't been one bit of confirmation one way or the other of any hard drive related features until this article. This is why Josh wrote this article for ps3insider.com: http://www.psinext.com/itex.php?iid=268
entitled "Opinion: No Hard Drive Inside".

This is good news, although I still have my doubts. An HDD is a little expensive, possibly jeopardizing the manufacturing of the console. Lets hope time can prove different.

I did said might. And this article isn't a confirmation either, just speculation from analyst, just like from the past. But I still hope it would include an HDD for many reasons.

Well, if it would be a fuss, they can always make it an add on, like PS2’s HDD. But I think an HDD is important due to the online gaming and content. ….what if PS3 can write on BD? That would change a lot.

The problem with making the HD an addon is that developers have to code assuming that the HD isn't going to be there. This is kinda what happened to the PS2: the developers never took advantage of the PS2 HD and so it never sold. Sony soon stopped pushing it except for FFXI. And now the PSTwo exists and can never have the harddrive added.

I'd say they should add the HD in by default, just like the original XBox.

you got a point there.
so having an HDD built-in is the best choice. now they don't have to make it a very large capacity thus expensive.
has anything been mentioned about PS3 BD writeabilty?

No but I'm extremely curious to see how this plays out. If I had to guess:

Basic PS3: BD-ROM drive to keep costs down
Full Featured PS3: BD-RW drive so you can burn the hi def shows from the PS3 DVR onto Blu-Ray discs

has anything been mentioned about PS3 BD writeabilty? Sony has said that only a Blu-Ray Drive will go into the PS3... What they meant by "Blu-Ray Drive" could mean everything, however, more then likely, it won't be a BD-Writer.

yeah but still the xbox one was in by default and still many game devs did not use it . To telll the truth it hackers that made most out of it . Also comes downs to if sony and MS want it in . i hear a rumor that Hd was canned because of HD loader. I think these companies don't want to put in a HD cause they think games sales are going to suffer same with devs and the cost .

Alot of people are pushing for online gaming so you need a HD but if you look at it less that 15% of ps2 owers have online . With xbox it has 20 million sold and only 1.5 million are with live . online gaming will get big thats for certain the question is will be with ps3 or ps4 where is fully goes main stream like pc .

If the ps3 would be integrated with a HDD and a BD-writer, it would propably eventually start the gratest piracy wave of all time!

Bleh i doubt a BD-RW would be ready at launch. Maybe 2 years after the launch date of PS3. Just look how expensive it will be.

I seriously doubt that. This is Sony we're talking about.

Isn’t making PS3 a BD writer less expensive than adding an HDD? Is a lence that can write that much expensive?
What I am thinking is if it was cheaper, then why not use a blank BD for online content?
Speed may be a factor, but I doubt it would be that bad.
