Yes, there's a few programs that can do that and one example is Winamp Pro (http://www.winamp.com).

I use DBPowerAmp. Its a great program. I've used it very often to rip music from cds.

I personally hate iTunes. I use my Winamp for pretty much everything. Music and video all into one sexy looking program. I got a skin for it :)

CDEX is the best solution for what you require: http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/

Media Player 10 (and yes, I prefer Windows Media Player, before any of you ask) has the ability to rip to MP3s... plus, it has way too many friggin' options for quality and the naming system
I used to be a Winamp kinda guy, but I became disenchanted a year or so ago... Media Player, even with it being such a CPU hog seems better rounded for my general usage

I use dBpowerAMP Music Converter (dMC) (http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm), it's free and very easy to use!

Windows Media Player 10
Unfortuantly - I've had it set to WMA ripping for a few months now
WMP10 is good!!
But after a long while - a very long while it starts to take about 60meg on your ram. But you save an amazing amount of memory by minimising things i.e. msn messenger saves more memory by minimising the main window than closing it to the system tray.
also WMP is fast for ripping

Are the files that you rip from the CD in WMP already MP3'd?
