Important question: Price range?

I was just lookin over at cyberpowerinc.com and a saw a AMD 64 3200+, 1024Mb of RAM, PCI-E GeForce 6600 GT, 160Gb hardrive, and a nice set of Logitech X530 5.1 speakers all for a great price of $1050. Add on a nice Samsung Syncmaster 710N 17'' LCD monitor and you have yourself quite a powerful complete system all for $1300.

HP/Compaq sells AMD64 machines, IBM sells them, though they're a little bit of a pain to find on IBM's site. Gateway owns a subdivision called eMachines which also sells amd64 boxes. And as thugbug mentioned, there's Cyberpower.

Almost every *cheap* machine vendor carries SOME AMD chip -- no guarantees of AMD64, though. If you're willing to spend a lot on enthusiast-type machines, there's always Falcon Northwest and Alienware.

Personally i think Alienware, Falcon Northwest, and Voodoo are all overrated and overpriced as you can get a much better deal from somewhere else. Usually if you buy from one of the big three you are mostly paying for the paintjob and the name.

Yeah, that sounds about right. About the only time they're worth considering is if you want something that qualifies more as a workstation (e.g. Dual Opteron or something) than a home PC and it would basically be the same price range no matter who you went to.

But y'know, there are obviously some people who are willing to shell out the cash seeing as how Alienware is able to freely charge $3500 for a machine you can get elsewhere for less than $2000, and they're still in business.

This is where I usually look for prices when I want to go buy something(I like to see average unbiased costs)
Anywho, you should/might be able to find an AMD64 system here...

If you plan on using the computer for gaming i would highly recromend not going to HP/Compaq, Dell , or any of those companys that build computers really cheap. Usually they cut costs by including a crappy vid card or something elso too slow for gaming. But if you're not a gamer then they can be pretty resonable.
