The graphics look good. Gameplay can be shaky at best these days, but it does look good. If XB2 can push that out that kind of graphics I expect PS3 will do better. It gives me hope for bad ass graphics in general, but PS3 should blow my mind.

I like the idea of a massive multi-player FPS. Like PlanetSide. Very very kool idea. Depends on how they set it up though. The name is lame as hell though.....

Anyway it certainly looks good as far as things to come go. Still, nothing we haven't really seen, since at it's core it is just the UE3 engine being put to use.

I know this a playstation board and 90% of you's are fanboy, but please PS3 won't look any different from xbox 2 in graphics because they will be based off similar technology, now if sony waits for nvidia next generation of cards then ps3 will be the ultimate console, but both ps3 and xbox 2 are being based off the same generation therefore the graphics will be the same and you won't notice the difference, it's cell that will make ps3 the more powerful console, and yet that is still unknown because a chip like cell will have alot of heating issues if it's put in a console because of space limitations.

You can't talk about space limitation when none of us have seen the final PS3 design -- pherhaps it will be large enough to house the monster microprocessor?

I have conflicting feelings:

Concept: this is what I am talking about. We want new original games and concepts for nex-gen. that is one of the great experiences of a new system- it has its own games.
Remember when we first saw Dante, Jack, etc?

Graphics: these look like PC graphics, so I think of it as a new PC game rather than a nex-gen offering. But that could be due to:
- it is in the early stages: that means this is only the beginning, thus final results will be amazing.
- Due to it being an MMO title: MMO are NEVER a way to judge a systems graphical performance.
- Xenon is still new: it is too early for knowing how to squeeze the system



Lighting is amazing by the way.

Having said that, the graphics shown look NOTHING close to the unbelievable open city demo shown for UE3 demo at GDC.

nemesis121, if you go to other website such as B3D for example, you would notice that people believe that PS3 would produce better graphics. So it's not just a PS3 site for that matter. Remember that PS3 may come out a year after Xenon. Giving Sony an extra time to up the graphics department the same way MS did with Xbox (unless full spec is locked).

This game is not Xenon exclusive, BTW. And I'm pretty sure I've seen those character models before. Also, I hope most games (character) next generation won't look too much rubber like.

Right now no one has annouced there specs for there system and everyone is saying ps3 will own, x2 will own, and nintendo will own, this is known, *IF* cell can do what IBM and sony says it can do then ps3 will be the more powerful console, but if it can't this console race will be even in specs, and we will have to rely on games. Alot of the ps2 fanboys that I run into on different boards are dumb, always saying that the reason why xbox hasn't gotten games like mgs3 or tekken is because the system is weak, I sit there and laugh the craziest one is that mgs 3 won't run on xbox because xbox can't handle it's graphics, the reason why xbox don't get those games is because of 2 things, 1 PS2 user base is huge and most companys know that they can get a million idiots to buy a trash reharsh, and 2 alot of these japanese companys have loyalty to sony, the same way they had loyalty towards nintendo, but lets see how long that loyalty will last, the same way most of the betrayed nintendo, the same way they will betray sony if the ps3 is second.

This is the crap I hate about console wars this is why I am a PC gamer, 90% of all consoles gamers are stupid even if they live on forums and the internet and can tell you in detail what cell specs means, because they are the same gamers that will buy a game that was base off a similar engine and say it rocks, it's the best game they have ever played, IMO this generation of games sucked all they offered was eye candy with little to no real gameplay improvements, and the next generation will be the same. PS1 drain most of the originality out of the gaming industry those were the best gaming years, but even now when I play GOW I feel bored as though I have already played a game with a similar engine, the gaming industry feels like I am playing madden, it has that madden effect where we play the same game every year with extras, originality in games is a thing of the past when a developers makes a hit they quicky rush out a sequel, instead of trying to improve the engine they say that they are telling a story and we want out gaming public to enjoy it.

Nemesis, I agree with you entirely, most games I have played this generation dont have the spark of games in past years. Nowadays I go back to play old emulated games just so I can return to those fun years. One of the most noticable things that bother me is that games arent art forms anymore, the only company that I feel keeps this is square enix, they work towards diffrent art styles, just look at there games indevelopment right now. I hate the fact that games are going for this completely life like replica for games.

Common, wheres tha funn. I hope that developers find new and original ways to create games. Its getting polluted and its getting harder to weed out the good from the copyed to the fun, maybe I'll develop games myself, the only thing costs too much money. :evil:

I am an avid PC gamer also, but your statement is very biased an pretty off in my opinion.

PC games really haven't seen much of a leap in innovation or gameplay for a while now. The only two games that I know that changed the formula alittle was FarCry and Half-life 2.

PC games have really only improved graphically if you think about it. The gameplay is still the same, but everything is prettier seeing that the hardware improves so often.

Console games have been reaching to make more gameplay innovations every year and much more than PC games because consoles have fixed hardware, so developers need to make a much bigger impact in the gameplay area if new games are going to shine clearly over the older ones, also because consoles reach to a much wider audience. The control scheme for PC games can't really receive much of an improvement or change either seeing that you only have a mouse and keyboard. Game consoles usually improve or change their controllers from generation to generation, so the way games control, feel, and play can improve and be more innovative.


Console games also have a much wider selection of genres to choose from to, so innovations are clearly more evident in console games seeing that there are more genres to innovate in.

P.S. - Tell me what game is similar to God of War and tell me why it doesn't break the mold in action games.

No thanks. I'm not buying any of the next-gen consoles, but I thought the Xenon graphics were supposed to be photorealistic. If they keep making games where the characters look like they're wearing makeup, the graphics are not going anywhere.

That's one of the gripes I had with Halo 2, how the textures made everything look metal, such as water and skin. Half-Life 2 and RE4 got human-looking skin, but no one else seems to be catching on. Maybe it's because they're too overjoyed with their own 'awesome' textures-which look like metal.

At least we can agree on one thing, there is a lot we don't yet know about Cell. But I have to disagree with just about everything else.

Yes, ATI and nVidia will he building GPUs for the next-generation consoles. Yes, the two will be of the same generation. But, one thing you seem to haved missed is the type of architecture that will make up these consoles. You believe that just because the two are using simliar sources, the technology must, too, be simliar. That's very false. All three competitors are aiming for something entirely different from the other.

Inspite of Microsoft going with ATi for a GPU, their relationship on the Xenon project differs very much from Sony and nVidia. For one, only ATI will be supplying the technology for their next console GPU. Sony's case a bit different, it seems. They and nVidia will be supplying the technology for the next GPU - something nVidia and Sony probably couldn't do on their own. Two heads are sometimes better than one.

With Cell, the same also applies. Unlike Microsoft's relationship with IBM, Sony's relationship differs quite a bit from the others. IBM,Sony, and Toshiba will be supplying the technology for the next CPU - something neither company would not have been able to achieve alone. Three heads are sometimes better than one.

Then there's this little box (or so we think) known as a workstation specifically designed for the sole purpose of creating digital effects. Not only are the two looking to revolutionize a completely different environment to build their content on, but it is something the Xenon does not look to be supporting.

Then there's the launch window with the Xenon ahead of the game, it seems. Three to six months doesn't really seem to be that much of an issue, but comparing that with the amount of time spent on the entire project, and it becomes a different story. As I said many times before, I don't really know how powerful niether console will be once launched, but I would suggest you not underestimate the possibilities based on their sources or some launch window. As history has shown, very few predict the handhelds being as far apart as they are now.

Also, don't expect Nintendo to go easy on the competition neither dispite how much money you think they want to save.

On my first look I was impressed, then I realised I was focused on the environments and lighting. The characters look terrible for a what should be a Next-Gen game, this more looks like current gen PC graphics, the reality engine and unreal 3.0 engines character models are far more impressive.

If this is whats to be expected on the Xenon or any other platform, it will be a big disappointment to me. :?

Well from the looks of it, it's based off of PC technology not xbox 2, because the X2 dev kits that the developrs are using now a pre alpha kits that use the 9800 core as it's graphic engine, the real X2 graphic chip hasn't been implented into the dev kits yet.
