in a recent interview with Famitsu, former Capcom Exec Yoshiki Okamoto and Rez/Lumines/Space Channel 5 creator Tetsuya Miziguchi have talked about their thoughts and plans for the Xbox 2.
Okamoto-san said he is currently developing two titles for Xbox 2 and that his ideas appeared to gel perfectly with the Xbox 2 development environment. The first title is an online party title in the style of Mario Party and other friendly, fun multiplayer games. However the other was a huge, ambitious project which pushed both the hardware's capabilities and required serious support and investment from Microsoft. Okamoto-san also said he hopes to boost the Japanese sales of the Xbox 2 in a way that never quite happened with its elder brother.
Miziguchi-san was similarly enthusiastic about the console. Inspired by the tech specs of the Xbox 2 and praising its high-res graphics and HDTV features, he agreed with Microsoft's plans for furthering gaming, praising the infrastructure and Live features of the yet-to-be-named successor. Miziguchi-san confided that his Xbox 2 project was an action title, but hinted that it would be something surprsingly different from his previous games.
With any luck we'll learn more about these guys' games and the system they're developing them for at this year's E3
