Hey guys, first time poster, been lurking around for a bit and figured I'd toss up a quick question...
I know the X-Box (with the HD) had the capability to import music files into games (such as sports games), and I think that's a pretty cool deal. Anybody know if this type of technology will be utilized in with the PS3?
Also, what's the difference between the Media Center PS3 I've been hearing about and the Standard version?

Since the media center is the first I've heard for the PS3, I will let someone more congnizant disect that issue.
For the custom music, from what we know, only the 360 will have this plus more as of right now. Sony has kep tight lipped for quite a few things concerning their console and online server for the PS3. So I won't deny nor confirm any related rumors to the possibility. The best I can tell you is to wait for E3.
Oh, and welcome.

Windows Media Center. Currently unsuccessful and not as many are taking advantage of it as expected.
Xbox 360 with Media Center. WMC solution solved. People like Xenon...People by WMC to get better features and more compatability.

Aha. Well, I don't really plan to use the PS3 for more than just a gaming console and an alternative DVD player should my current system go on the fritz (though it's another Sony, so hopefully it shouldn't ;))...is the Media Center thing really planned to be so big that they would incorporate it (either standard or optionally) into the PS3 and other gaming systems? I mean, I use my PC for music and video and whatnot, and my PS2 and GCN to play games.
And thanks for the heads up about the music thing. I guess I'll just have to wait to hear news from the expo like everybody else.

Imagine the amount of royalties that would have to be paid to Microsoft if WMC goes into PS3 and PS3 sells more than the amount it's already sold.
WMC is like the walls of the house, while Longhorn is just the computer.
WMC and Longhorn are Microsofts biggest chances of competing against Linux - which is gaining ground FAST!

If you're talking about Linux gaining fast in terms of technology and compatability, then I'll somewhat agree... if you're talking about it gaining ground fast in terms of mainstream acceptance... LOL! Seriously, I've always said that until Linux is as user friendly as Windows and until it can run everything I can run on Windows (or really close to it), it'll never have as many users as Windows. Heck, I like Linux but I won't use it because I like games too much and I want to be able to play a game NOW without having to wait for it to be emulated, and I like my games to run fast which is not as easy on Linux since most of them don't have native Linux support.

Not really into image and video editing.
As far as memory serves, a PowerMac Gx is the best for MultiMedia editing.
