I'm not that knowledgable in photoshop so I can't find any major glaring flaws in the authenticity of this pic. Real of fake? I don't know but if you guys could mull over it for me and assess it's legitimacy, I'd appreciate it.

Why does it have lines on the bottom? Other than that it looks legit but I'm no Photoshop expert either.

Oh, I see. Well it looks legit to me. The reflection and rainbow looks pretty real. It even has a serial numer in the center of the disc.

"Nintendo RS" What would RS stand for? Revolutionary System? That logo is similar to the DS; where the last O in Nintendo is replaced with two overlapping squares. I wonder if it means something...

I wonder if it means something...I do know that the DS online network is being designed to work with the Revolution as well so that might have something to do with it.

Nintendo is gonna use HD-DVD. Well, that's what they said. From an article let me go find it.
Here we go: Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000380028623/)
This is old too, back in January.

It's a full size disc I noticed, this is the first time Nintendo has ever used a full size disc for a format. (FD system doesn't count)
The 2 squares replacing the 'o' may be a symbol for the double-visioned look of 3D displays where the two screens are offset slightly in the goggles or whatever.

To me it looks like someone took a photo of a CD and put it on some image processing program, and added little pictures and text. If you didn't notice, the disc has the same nintendo logo on it twice. One at the top, once at the bottom. I don't know why they would do that. It doesn't really look good so to speak. Then again this is only a like, beta disc or whatever.
I don't know, it just appears to me to be unreal.

Why does it say RS though?

I'm a photoshop user, but definitely not a photoshop expert. Nevertheless I smell a fake. Nintendo has been too tight lipped about the revolution to let an image like this slide through the cracks. Besides the CD is layed out perfectly, as if someone needed it to be layed out this perfectly in order to copy and paste the text onto the cd to make the image look correct. Its much harder to paste text onto an image that's taken from an angle. I also don't buy the fact that Nintendo branded the CD/DVD twice, and officially gave a name to the Revolution by calling it the RS.

I don't think it can be. Toshiba and Sony are merging the HD-DVD and Blueray formats (http://dvd.ign.com/articles/606/606542p1.html) (in a sence). Either Nintendo is going to be really angery when they find that out, or its a fake. I'm going with the later.

Or it's old.
It is obviously a fake. To the guy that says the disk looks real with its reflections, serial number and all. Well of course the disk itself is real. What did you expect? Someone would ‘draw’ something to look like a CD? Why the hell for? This is why Photoshop is for; manipulating ‘real’ and ‘existing’ images.
Now, it is obviously fake with out the need to look at any pik. Not just because of the silly mistakes and cover ups pasted on it, but the idea of Rev using HD-DVD.
Ninty is known to be a cheap company. We also have this fiasco between BD and HD-DVD that is turning to be a big soup opera. Why would ANY company that didn’t choose one of these platforms previously go with one now? Especially Ninty. And another question is why do people ignorantly think that X2 and Rev will go with HD-DVD? Just because Sony was the one who made BD? They think it has to do with competition. They have this low very simplistic thinking that big multi-million corporate deals use the same mentality as he would if he gets angry with a person, then he wouldn’t talk to him or borrow anything from him.
Here is the deal: Ninty is not going to risk choosing a platform that may soon perish. I even doubt they would go with these new platforms in the first place. I tell you, I would be surprised if they did. Heck MS went with normal DVD and they are the “now is the HD era earthlings” speech people!
If, and only IF, Ninty would-for some odd reason since they are ‘very’ price cautious - go with a new platform, they won’t do ANYTHING until they see what comes out of this BD, HD-DVD charade.
To think that a phrase slapped on a CD would confuse people…

If it's called Revolution...what's the S for?
Isn't the HD-DVD logo similar to the BD-DVD one?

 I noticed that too but I wasnt going to say anything. If you look right under "for external use only" (just underlining it right along the bottom of the solid letters) you can see where he F'ed up.
I wasn't even going to post anything in this topic like I said because that disc is so obviously fake that it's not even worth a discussion.

I was hoping one of you would notice the biggest issue of it all. The logo. No HD DVD disc I've ever seen has used the actual HD DVD logo.
They all use this instead.

if it was taken by a camera would'nt it have some reflection of a person or a real bright light
I also think RS means Reality System

Only if they used a flash but as you can see, there is plenty of light already hitting the disc so a flash was probably not needed.
Besides, even if the text and images on the disc are fake, the disc itself is real.

I don't know why these "photoshop experts" are saying its not fake. it would be quite hard to work out if someone did it right.
ok first off, buy lets say.... A blank DVD. One of the ones that have no writing on either side. Next take a good picture of it. Good lighting ect.
Get some coolio fonts, draw some squares. look at the squares. It would be quite a simple thing in photoshop to just draw some squares use magic wand, goto a new layer - edit the selection - boarder - select the number of pixels and fill it black.
Also it would also be simple to get TM - its a short cut something like alt+t.
Get the DVD logo - google. The nintendo logo - not hard to aquire via google.
I tried uppding the exposure on the picture and the Black didnt change. Does this mean anything? I've only been messing with exposure a few days.
Well after messing around with some exposure changing tools. I have come up with a conclusion.
It only requries a RGB value of about 9+, These being equal, If below this value, increasing exposure will have litle effect on it, at 0 there is no effect.
The afore posted image was affected but not as much in the black text areas.
It could be legit, but it depends on how clever the artist wanted to be. In general, a photograph will cause most of the black to disappear when the exposure is increased being that the values arent too low e.g. A picture in and normal lighting.
If you take a DVD video logo from the net, as I did where the value's are 0,0,0 it shows that it was created on a computer.
http://www.ctv.es/USERS/musicsve/images/dvd_logo_01.gifThe nintendo RS logo shows different colour values for RGB. This suggests that it was not made on computer. But after doing a little test on photoshop i found that it comes down to how clever the artist was.
If you were to create the words, then magic wand them to select them all, then do a layer via cut of the cd, you can put the shiny cd layer over the text. Then by lowering the opacity, the values would change. By having a low opacity, the RGB values would stay very low but it would also cause changes in the colour values of the text.
So is it real, or a really smart photo editor?
i still can't be sure, with all the work I've done over the last hour racking my brain for a solution to the changing values, I'd like to believe it is fake but it looks like the text goes on so seemlessly.
Nintendo wouldn't go ahead with HD-DVD if microsoft weren't using it in xbox 2 - that would just cause concerns to do with the life of the disk. So all those in North america should know tonight and can tell us if microsoft haven't one for something else.
EDIT: ok nobody said they are experts - I take that bit back. Hehe - I'm no expert - just thought I'd throw that in.

Nice observation and investigative work.
I was thinking it might just be an old pic or an old disc since it was well believed at one time that HD DVD was the choice because fo Nintendos' affiliation with NEC.

Well, Nintendo has now gone on record saying the Revolution will play standard DVDs, (http://cube.ign.com/articles/613/613340p1.html) and that it is super tiny as compared to other consoles (this generation I'm asuming).

3 DVD cases stacked on top each other. That's how tall Rev will be. Damn that's thin.

uhm, well... just a minor observation: the serial number on the CD is backwards. meaning that all that black labeling is printed on the readable surface of the disc. I don't think that works all that well when you try to play it.

Great point. Would it matter if it's a dual sided disc though? Granted that doesn't lend well to video game disc usage since they need one side for the games label.

Another point to those who think it may be for a test disk; testing disks only have the disk’s manufacturer’s name on them. Ninty doesn’t make disks. So only the finished approved version will be officially labeled with the game’s pic and logo. Then it will contain Ninty’s name. but you won’t find Ninty’s name on testing disks.
these things are just too obvious.

Ya know...the disc says Nintendo RS and in the Nintendon ON video, it says Nintendo "Revolution System". I just noticed that. So the disc is probably fake.

it just looks like the back of a typical cd-r to me, notice the greenish color of the disc, about the same color as a cd-r. the lighting doesn't seem quite right on the lettering also.
