01/05/2003. That was the day I decided to go to Toys R Us and purchase an XBOX just to play one game – EA Sport’s “NASCAR Thunder 2003”. I had purchased a RCA 27” TV before Christmas 2002 with the XBOX Ready Port (which has never worked). I had read about the hardware of the XBOX being superior to that of the PlayStation 2. I figured I would want the best graphics since I am a racing game nut so I went with the XBOX.

I got it home, hooked it up, and, to my astonishment, I had a controller the size of a piano. Well, not that big, but it was quite enormous. So I had to go to Wal-Mart and get the smaller controller which is still kind of big.

I played the game I had bought for the XBOX on and off for about a year, but never bought anymore games. Why? There is just not too many good racing games for the XBOX.

My younger brother is a big SONY fan. He has owned SONY TVs, computers, VCRs, camcorders, etc. And a PlayStation 2. One of the games he and myself are addicted to is “Hot Shots Golf Fore!” which we even got our Dad to play.

My brother decided to move out a couple of weeks ago and live with a friend. He took his PlayStation 2 with him. Since I had my XBOX lingering around, I decided to try to find an XBOX version of “Hot Shots Golf Fore!” or at least a similar game. I was unable to find either for the XBOX at a local game rental store. Nothing at Wal-Mart or Best Buy either.

I was beginning to notice something – there are more games for PlayStation 2 than there are for XBOX. And there are more racing games for PlayStation 2 than there are for XBOX.

My Dad was getting sick of not playing his beloved “Hot Shots Golf Fore!” so he, a 61 year old man, went out and bought a brand new PlayStation 2 (the smaller new one), an extra game controller, a memory card, and of course “Hot Shots Golf Fore!”.

I saw the XBOX 360 show on MTV last night. I wasn’t overly impressed with what I saw. The XBOX 360 console looks nice, but the controllers are still too big. The games I saw one that show look as good as the ones advertised for the original XBOX. There is even a lot of talk that the original XBOX games may not work in the XBOX 360. I think I will pass on buying one. I am glad I only bought one game for my XBOX now.

After watching that show, I started to dig around on the Internet for news and pictures of the PlayStation 3 and came across this website in my search. I never found any pictures of it, but read that its hardware will more than likely be superior to that of the XBOX 360, the older PlayStation games should work in it, that it will play DVDs and record TV shows digitally, you can hook your digital camera up to it via USB and look at your pictures, etc. I am excited about the PlayStation 3. I think I will buy it.

I rented EA Sports’ “NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup” tonight for the new PlayStation 2 my Dad bought. The graphics look fine to me. Actually, they look pretty good. So I guess I will put this XBOX of mine up on eBay and hope to get most of my money back out of it.

I think the PlayStation 2 is the better product. It plays DVDs right out of the box, it has the most games, and, thankfully, the remotes are perfect.

There's no game great enough to get me to abandon Sony, you should be ashamed.

I am ashamed, lol.

At least the used XBOXs on eBay seem to be selling for $100 on average so I will at least get most of my money back and feel less ashamed.

XBox does have its good points. Like XBox live is far superior to the PS2 online service.

That I will give you. But it comes with the territory;cost. THAT alone is enough to turn a few consumers away. Eventuall, the cost to connect to their server will only increase after awhile. But, as you said, every console has its weak and strong points.

Again, shouldn't this be in the everything else section? General gaming doesn't cover personal console purchases .

Oh, and welcome to the forums BTJustice 8).

But you forget most ppl have an old model PS2; in which you have to buy a network adapter.

I bought both....
PS2 Network Adapter/Game= £35.00
1 year Xbox Live service/Microphone/Game = £30.00

First of all, if you have an older PlayStation model, then yes, you will have to scrouge up money for an adapter to get online. But the slim models come bundled with the modem right out of the box at no extra charge. So you are actually not really paying for the adapter since the console itself is the same price, but rather the console itself. It would prove no different if you were to purchase an Xbox console but without the starter kit.

Second, I think you're doing the math wrong. A Live kit does not cost $30.00 unless you're talking different numbers (I'm suspecting Japanease), which I have no idea about. It's seventy dollars for the starter kit over here. And unless you got your games for free or bundled with the console with no extra charge, that's going to cost you an additional $20 to $50.00. So really, you're looking at $90 to $120 out of your credit card, and none of that includes the fact that you are charged annually - not that specific amount, but annually, nevertheless compared to a one time charge. But we're not here to fight about who's better than who. As I said before, what you get comes with the territory.
