BTW, what could it all mean? Are they gonna change their controller, since they lost the court battle for the DS? Or are they losing the symbols? I hope it's not the latter, those symbols are recognizable anywhere!

Its genius, simple and effective, change is coming... and the symbols are half of the ones on our controllers currently, not sure what that means but possibly something like mirroring, would give credance to the rumours that Sony are fabbing 2x Cell and BBE Cells for PS3 units (0.5-1TBflops!).

Two other things come to mind, firstly they are saying that the PS3 is only half the experience (rumours suggested that a PSTV may have a cell inside and that it could be utilised with the PS3 [high speed bus link and additional memory unit], bringing sony TVs and Sony PS together and solidifying their market).

Secondly they are taking a jab at the MS, Sony said its like a XBox 1.5, half the symbols = dig for those following their insults?

I think they just put down half the sony symbols so people would look at the billboard trying to figure out what it is. If you just saw Son'y Playstation logo on a billboard, you'd just think "a playstation billboard" And not read into it. But by making it look cryptic, people look, and read the bottom. Hence: marketing.

As far as marketing goes it's hard to doubt that Microsoft's marketing for its new machine has been more effective up to this pont, thats simply a fact. More people are talking about the machine, more people have seen the machine in use, and it is now known to the world.

However I think it's possible that Sony's "hint dropping" approach will end up working to instill suspense in people which will lure more interest, and whatever advantage MS has now will be equalized when PS3 is unveiled.

As for the symbols, I wonder if they represent ones on the controller itself.

Instead of Triangle, Square, X, and Circle, we now might have these symbols instead.

Come to think of it that red cololur in the background is very familiar. Its the same red as in PSP UI during the month of December, which was voted the best colour out of the 12 that are in teh PSP. Maybe thats what the new colour of the PS3 UI will be (I think its fantastic) or maybe even the console itself (not so fantastic.....)

Adds run from the day X2 releases, twice a week.

A black screen, white text, counts from 52-1 (1 number a week), final numbers count down 7-1, Each week has 1-2 words on the ad.

Week 52 starts as "The End", week 51 "Is Beginning" etc...

On closer inspection they are clearly half versions of the original shapes. I still think that if they don't appear on the contoller in some fashion they may appear on the system itself though.

wow.... the members of these boards have been eating this up like candy. First of all look a the picture, look at the outside of it and how badly it blends in with the rest of the picture. then look st the half button icons... they are all blurry and stuff and then look at the text below it.. nice and clear. then look at the ps icon at the top right corner of the billboard, it looks like it was cut and pasted on.. poorly. the opserve the lighting, it was done so bad.. you can only see lights on the left and right, not all over the bill board. and if you look at the whole image then you can see how much that thing stands out in the night with absolutly no indication that it is in the dark.. just some huge pink square in the middle of a pic. also, dont you think sony would have this slogan somewhere else on the planet other then just one billboard in LA??? if someone lives in LA take a drive up to Lax and please confirm this for us... other wise i dub it FAKE.

The reason it's all lit up is because billboards have lights at the bottom one, especially those billboards in big cities like LA. No surprise there. For another thing, the symbols are white so they are more likely to look blurry with the bright light. Also, the lights showing up more on the right and left side is actually pretty standard. Lastly, E3 is being held in LA, so of course that's the first place Sony would start showing ads. I'm not saying that this is beyond a doubt real, but I tend to lean towards it being real.

Ok im gonna clear this up... the posters in black and orange have to be fake... you cant work for Sony Computer Entertainment America and spell entertainment "Entertainement".... but the bill board and street posters are indeed real and the blue and pink ones are from a day before the green one (im just making an edjucated guess) so probably by tomorrow or monday the posters will apear with the completed symbol.

Also, anybody here who's been to E3 can tell you that Sony's got many HUGE Playstation advertisements up all around LAX/the Convention Center. At first glance I definitely thought the billboard was fake, especially 'cause of the sharpness of the letters at the bottom, but I think something like that with reflections & stuff would be too hard to fake and make that good-looking.

Those orange & black ones definitely sound fake, but I dunno. Is there any other country that spells it Entertainement? Having a typo like that almost sounds real...truth is stranger than fiction. :D

The one at a bus stop is definitely real if you ask me. Not that anybody is...

Concerning those "Entertainement" ads, they were official SCEI concept designs. Of course, they've been scrapped now, but they were real at one time or another.

Yeah, a little bit more about the whole "Entertainement" thing, that seems to be a pretty common spelling for Europe/the UK. So, I don't think it's too far-fetched. Of course SCEE's website doesn't call themselves Sony Computer Entertainement, but oh well... I figured Sony would have its own way of referring to itself and stick by it, but you never know. Nothing else about those "flyers" or whatever they are leads me to believe they're fake, besides the color scheme. You never know though, wasn't there that random-looking Playstation3 logo that was supposedly trademarked years ago that was orange-ish? I'll try to find a pic...

Sony should do something similiar to the following to introduce the PS3 to the world...

They should advertise a special SCIFI channel press conference about the PS3 on a Friday night at 6:55PM.

They should have a a very formal area set up. There should be a podium set up on a large elevated platform. It would look like a real news conference. Reporters would be everywhere, cameras everywhere, microphones would be all over the podium, etc.

To make everything look *very* serious there should be a famous news person looking very somber there on the scene announcing the Sony's president will be making a very important announcement about the PS3 anytime now. He could be quoted as saying, "According to sources inside of Sony the PS3 is going to change the gaming industry forever in a way that will touch the lives of a civilization. Additionally, this inside was quoted as "be prepared for a breakthrough announcement that will change the world of entertainment and blur the lines between fiction and reality".

Suddenly, the Sony President steps up and tells the crowd... "I have decided to pospone this press conference to a later date... an uproar begins and then suddenly... commercials....

However, a new commercial begins!

The actor Ben Browder from Farscape is on the deck of Moya and and in the middle of a battle blasting at a horde of scarrens (the battle lasts a minute at least) and then look at the screen and says.. "What if there was a brand new world in which the crew of Moya"... (something shocking would happen to cut him short)

Suddenly, you see the cool blond woman (you know the scientist lady) from StarGate fighting a group of Joffa and she states "could dimention boundries and land a pod on a bizzare world to fight a new enemy" another distraction would occur....

Then you would see the commander of BattleStar Galactica dispatching a fleet of fighters to take on some of the Cylon Raiders (with a few flashes of Star Buck flying like crazy taking them out one by one) when the commander states, "with a lone and lost pilot named StarBuck as a new ally" (suddenly a wormhole opens up and sucks her in)

Then you see Captain Dylan Hunt bashing some badguys with the Andromeda Acendant to say, "but with a new mission to restore a commonwealth in the universe they have never seen."

Then suddenly we see a flash of bits of all the series and then we see Moya, the new ship the humans built from StarGate, the Andromeda, and StarBucks fighter all together....

Then everyone walks towards screen all unified with on the Moya with Pilot in the Background... they say...

"Such a new team could exist. But it would not be on Scifi. If this new world could exist it would be on your new PS3. Because the action, the space combat, the aerial manuvers, the aliens, the weapons, and the landscapes you just witnessed were all rendered real time on a PS3 and were actually characters being controlled right now.."

Suddenly they all start fighting each other, blasting at each other, fighting, kicking, screaming, etc.

Suddenly, the "commercial" ends and we go back to the press conference room. Everyone is in shock and we see the characters fighting...

Then a camera goes backstage to see the ACTORS that those REAL TIME RENDERED characters were BASED on with CONTROLLERS in their hands, MICS on their head, and playing this short DEMO game that just BLEW AWAY THE MINDS OF THE ENTIRE WORLD!

Then they all walk infront of the crowd and take a bow...

The Sony president walks up and states.

Well I googled "Entertainement" and a vast majority of the sites spelling it like that were UK & some European sites' English versions (British English, not American English). That's why I said that, but I've clearly never actually been to the UK.

But the illuminated (half/Querter) symbols would look pretty cool on the console itself or on the controllers (then again these lights would eat a lot of the wireless controlers juice)

Ah good old sony prolly has something pretty cool up their sleeve for that unveiling. The marketting campaign is good. Not overly hyped (ourcolony) and yet just simple enough. It's at the level in which it'll remain with you the rest of the day and then the next.

Probably the theme color of PS3. I noticed that the background color cyan and blue are the same color from the Playstation logo.

My guess is Japan in March, and probably Fall/Christmas time 2006 for US. I'm in no rush to really toss my PS2 out the window anyways, since I still have lots of games to catch up on for it. Same with PSOne!
