I went to by local EB and preordered the Xbox 360 today and the final price was listed at $499, $529.00 after tax. This was obviously a placeholder price and I'll get cash back when they announce the real price, but DAMN! IF it is that much, it better have Tivo, a DVD burner, a toaster, a footbath....
Man, if it cost so mutch i dont think anyone would buy a next gen console.

Hardware is only available for pre-orders once the price is announced, therefore, whomever dealt you this information lied.

I seem to recall Saturn selling for $399 initially upon launch. Even PS1, IIRC was extremely high priced upon launch, although it was outside the US that people really got shafted when PS1 and PS2 were new (something like $749). It was Panasonic's 3DO that really shafted everybody everywhere selling for $699 for most of its entire run. In the US. I don't really remember PS1/2 goin for over $349. PS1 also dropped to $199 after a year or so on market.

I'm pretty sure thats just EB's "place holder price". I remember back about a year ago, Gamestop had the PSP listed as $350 for the value pack. Wait untill an actual price is given for the Xbox 2 than to asume. I doubt it'll be $500, unless Microsoft is trying to loose the console race.

the temporary "fill-in" price...in other words what a certain store estimates the price will be until it is officially announced.

im pretty sure i preordered my NA psp in december way before we even got a price. they do give you your money back if you pay more than the console/hardware is worth.

Hell, even at $50, it's more than I'd be comfortable paying. Doesn't mean that I don't see the inevitability of it being at a company that's got 1 360 project, and is intending to go entirely next-gen (360 & PS3, really, dunno about NRev) after this year. Still, I'd rather wait out a while -- 360 is sure to see a sharp drop in price when PS3 comes out. We are talking about Microsoft here... they never act on anything, and instead always *react* to something. That's why this whole Halo3 on same day as PS3 thing came up.

I don't see the connection of having to buy a console simply because you are making a game on that console. Are you going to buy it simply to admire your own work afterwards ?
