Footage from first PS3 Metal Gear to be shown at Sony conference

Metal Gear Solid 4 footage will be publicly shown tonight for the first time ever, gamesradar.com can reveal.

Clips from the game will be shown at Sony Computer Entertainment America's pre-E3 press conference, which takes place in Culver City, Los Angeles at 11pm (UK time).

As we revealed back in March, the game will be released for as-yet-unspecified next-generation consoles, although today's news suggests that the game will debut on PlayStation 3.

The game will be the first that isn't produced by Metal Gear mastermind Hideo Kojima, who is moving on to another next-gen project (details of which are also expected to be announced at tonight's Sony event).

We're in LA at this very moment and will be reporting live from tonight's Sony and Microsoft conferences, which will be closely followed by tomorrow's Nintendo shindig.

Expect an avalanche of news, analysis, screenshots, photos and - yes - footage direct from sunny California over the coming week...

I wish we would get some new games demos for the PlayStation 3. I know that for hardcore MGS fans it is great news, but some new games wouldnt hurt at all. Anyway, im looking forward to wat they have to show

Excellent news; I cant wait. :D

The new and better graphics will defferently be a great plus; but I dont really care about the graphics. Its the story and in-game play im looking forward to.

The general design of MGS/MGS2 (I haven't got 3 yet) lends itself to impressive graphics as the environments are usually pretty small; enter a corridor/room, walk to the other end, load new area, enter another corridor/room, walk to the end etc etc. As such, assuming they've had enough development time and Sony have made the PS3 fairly dev friendly I'd have high hopes for MGS's graphics.

No Hideo is a bit worrying though...

Hideo took a back seat in MGS 3 as well, and the game turned out great :)

I'm not going to lie guys I'm nervous. I'm expecting the graphics to be on par if not better than Gears of War. But if they are not... Everybody on the net will diss Sony. :?

What are you guys talking about? Has everybody here already forgotten E3 2000? It was Metal Gear Solid 2 that absolutely blew away anything else shown for a next-gen console (the PS2). Konami's first PS2 showing of Metal Gear Solid 2 that year marked the first time ever at E3 that a non-playable game was awarded Best Game of Show!

KCEJ West is a fantastic team, unequaled if you ask me, and I have a lot of faith that they can do for this upcoming generation what they did for our generation right now. MGS2 totally raised the bar on what a next-gen game should look and feel like.

Yeah i agree. MGS2 blew me away, one of my favourite games of all time. Back in 2000 i wasn't so interested in gaming but ive seen the footage that was shown of it back then and it must of been so exciting at the time! Let's hope tonights footage is just as exciting! For the UK, the conference doesn't start until 11pm  . I'm doubting i will see anything or hear any news before i go to bed tonight

when playing first both the ffx and metal gera solid 2 I could hardly belife I was controling this amazingly detaild characters. But then I got so disapointend because the new guy in mgs2 (don't remember his name) and the story wasn't half as good as in the first one. So It was with mgs2 I lerned the look wasn't everything.

What a crappy time to have a Sony conference  .I have to start work at 3:30 but with my luck i expected that :( .

Anyways i know Mr.Kojima aint directing MGS4 but i really sure hope some input or maybe co-writing the script is hopefully going to happen.

I just feel a little worried like i did after MGS2 that the series might not ever be the same again.

My personal opinion is that Hideo has taken MGS as far as he can, now it's time for someone else.

the story pre-exists MGS. At bare minimum I expect the story to be slightly weaker than previous instalments - but hopefull not like Substance.

God I hated that game.

I have a lot of concerns about this new installment, and many are the ones you already stated. Maybe Kojima is lying to us all, and this will be the best MGS yet. ;) Then again, maybe not.

No, he's more like the Executive Producer this time around.

So he'll have his own input then?

I don't follow industry re-shuffles very well - and I like to make sure I am right about most things.

I think actually perhaps a bigger question is here the same thing which happened with Doctor Who.

Has Hideo Kojima typecasted himself with MGS?

I do remember awhile back him saying in an interview that his vision of MGS was not really complete because the lack of power in todays consoles/PC.That's why im surprised that he would give up power of the series and not complete his grand epic story line.

Does anyone know who will be writing the script?

He's got all the power he wants in this new generation.

It'd be true ownage if Sony stuffed a hard drive into the PS3. even if it's a compatable external one.

I think David Hayter should write the script. ;) He was Solid Snake in the game, and he also wrote the scripts for both X-Men movies.

But to answer your question...no, I have no idea.

Yes, but then again why have the legend David Hayter write it when you can have a team of literary geniuses, a psychologist, and also some input from Tom Clancy himself? (MGS2 was too extreme on a plot-level I swear!)

I don't think Tom Clancy's style fits MGS. that's my opinion though.

I wonder if FF will be shown for next-gen :?

That works even better. ;) That's a lot of work going into one story. Tom Clancy is the master of confusing literature. He writes so much technical jargon that it's a little hard to follow. I can see why they'd want him to help out with a few details. If you've ever read Rainbow Six, you'd know what I'm talking about. They also have Harry Gregson-Williams aboard to compose music for the game, and he is a genius. He's done so many movies:

Smilla's Sense of Snow
Replacement Killers
Borrowers, The
Antz
Enemy of the State
Light It Up
Tigger Movie, The
Chicken Run
Shrek
King of the Jungle
Spy Game
Phone Booth
Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas
Passionada
Rundown, The
Veronica Guerin
Man on Fire (2004)
Shrek 2
Team America: World Police
Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason
Kingdom of Heaven
Domino
Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The

...and of course, MGS.

Why would we want Tom Clancy anyway? Hes associated with Splinter Cell. So we shouldn't even speculate. His style might work for some games but not MGS. It would loose some of its mythical feel (crazy characters).
