E3 2005: GTA Next for PS3 Launch
The next Grand Theft Auto will release alongside PlayStation 3.

May 16, 2005 - We don't know much, but Sony promises that "Grand Theft Auto Next" will be a PS3 launch title. This information comes from some people at the Sony E3 2005 press conference currently in progress, but we've yet to confirm the report with our own editors.

We're hoping to high heaven that we'll get to see snippets of the game in the coming days.

at ign they have a news thing that says the same thing but when you click it's a story saying there is no gta at launch (or announced). it seems they posted the news then edited it out later without changing the headline on the main page.

IGN did the same thing with Final Fantasy VII. The title said "Final Fantasy VII PS3: Guess What?" and then claimed FFVII would be a remake on PS3, but in the same article it said they weren't remaking it after all...and they left the title.

you guys forgot one thing, its rockstarts decision to release the date, although sony would love to counter attack the halo 3 with GTA release. I guess the development time will take a little longer... cuz u dont wanna rush the release if you want to make ur game perfect. im also assuming that the halo 3 might have to be rushed since the ps3 will comes out less than a year away. The best way for sony to win this race is to release PS3 in early winter 2006 asap, cuz that'll definatly put the wall against Halo 3. See what bungie wants to do with halo 3 is to take their time to make the game perfect in all sense (gameply, graphics, sounds). They have to buy all the time they need just like what they did with halo 2 when it was announced a year ago. My best bet for sony is to release the ps3 early in 2006 and not make it wait. So that way, that'll give bungie hard time making halo 3 more perfect. it'll also force bungie to rush the game since they havn't started to develope it yet.. remember, whenever ps3 is to be release, the halo 3 will have to be released in that date or earlier. So my best bet is to release the ps3 early to destroy halo 3. So that way, halo 3 might not be a killer app. you think my market theory sounds stupid? or does it make sense? or no sense..??

Consider this though---What if Bungie works in a similar way to Ubisoft. What I mean is Ubisoft has 2 different development teams for Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon and I think Prince of Persia. This is how they are able to release a new entry into each of those franchises each year. This might also explain why (and I never even played a HALO game) people thought HALO 2 felt incomplete or rushed. Maybe they devoted their best development staff to HALO 3 during the time HALO 2 was being made so they could have a better chance of stealing some of Sony's sales. It's possible that they've been working on HALO 3 for a couple of years now. :idea:

first off, EGM ran an article doubting that Halo 3 could be ready intime for the PS3 launch. having said that, X2 and Halo don't only have PS3 to face off. PS2 is still getting bigger and bigger with its hugest blockbusters will launch around the same time as X2's launch. plus, PSP is getting huge by the day with crazy games announced for the little monster like GTA! and the fact that new systems aren't that available at first with not much game choices for them, most people wait for a while before deciding on investing in a brand new system. with PS3 and Rev just around the courner, it seems that wait has gotten a bit longer.

I hope you didnt mistake my theory as a defense for why MS's plan to use HALO 3 to combat the PS3 will work...it simply wont. I was just saying that if it's going to be ready in time for them to follow through with this (retarded) "plan" then that must be how they will make it happen. There is NO WAY that any...ANY game MS releases will hurt PS3.

Furthermore, I strongly agree with you that 360 (a.k.a. Xbox 1.5) will even still have to try to beat PS2. Socom 3 alone will F' them up I think. That game will be HUUUUUGGGGE!!! Cant wait! 8)

I think this thread should be closed. It's just continuing to mislead people. (Though I made this topic it's not my fault. IGN started it...Rat-Bastards...)

GTA (as of now) will NOT be available at launch on the PS3 (surely at some point but not at launch). IGN got all excited when they saw that R* teaser for what looked like Red Dead Revolver 2 then not only reported that it was a new GTA for the PS3 but also that it would be available at launch. Where the F'ck did the get that from??? :?
