Patience my friends, all will be revealed in due time.
At which time the konami conference will take place?
the F1 racer also looks real as well! man PS3 is getting spooky
I am very excited to see what the king of games that always own E3 since 2000 *drum roll* MGS can do! heck if Killzone, Motorstorm, F1, etc. look so freakinawesome, dare I say MGS3 will look much better?
site and E3 trailer:
http://www.konami.jp/gs/kojima_pro/english/004.html
"Kojima Productions" has just embarked on its newest and greatest project - "Metal Gear Solid 4." "MGS1" and "MGS2" focused on infiltrating man-made structures, whereas "MGS3" concentrated on the challenge of the jungle environment.
"MGS4" brings a totally new concept and situation, resulting in the toughest "Metal Gear" infiltration mission ever devised.
The game is set after the events of "MGS2" and players will reprise the role of top secret agent Solid Snake. The game is slated for the "PS3TM," the next generation console from Sony.
Hideo Kojima will be in charge of game design, production, and direction. Also directing this game will be promising new prospect Shuyo Murata, who debuted on "Zone of the Enders: the 2nd Runner." Kenichiro Imaizumi will oversee production and character design will be handled by Yoji Shinkawa.
All of the intensity and experience available within "Kojima Productions" will be used to bring this newest "MGS" to life.
time for speculation regarding the characters from left to right:
- Unknown
- Meryl
- Raiden / Grey Fox / Olga Gurlukovich (I think raiden)
- Ocelot
- Solid Snake
- Uknown (or Otacon?)
- Big Boss (makes sence..his body is kept by the military..looks like big boss..and he looks pretty zombie-fied ;D)
- Unknown

That's the best teaser ever fucking produced!!! I was laughing all through it!
SOLID SNAKE IS THE MAIN CHARACTER!!!
EDIT: Since this is set after MGS2, the character line from left must be as follows:
Vamp
Meryl
Raiden (bandaged?)
Revolver Ocelot
Solid Snake (looking a lot like Big Boss with his new beard)
Otacon
Big Boss (in zombie-form!?!)
Rose or Olga (probably Rose)
well I cant get a decent stream either ;(
Another interesting tidbit from the pdf-file on the website:
"Kojima Productions will concentrate its efforts and experience to take full advantage of the hardware capabilities of SCEI’s next-generation console, infusing the world of Metal Gear Solid with completely new game designs and concepts."
sounds alot as "sony exclusive"..altough it could only refer to the MGS series itself.

Hehe - not just fired, but gunned down, it seems. I also liked Solid Snake's Sam Fisher equipment and animation as they ran for the main character-chair. Nice little stab at Ubisoft when they turned on the light.

Darn have to wait next year to get actual footage. Well this is a game i'll really be excited to see on PS3. I'm sure it will blow us away when its on actual PS3 hardware.
May 17, 2005 - At the Konami press event currently in progress, Mr. Hideo Kojima announced that he has been authorized to form a development house within the greater whole of Konami. The new production Studio, aptly called Kojima Productions, will continue work on the Metal Gear Gear franchise with MGS4 on PlayStation 3, a game Kojima himself will write, direct and produce, as it was "demanded by fans and staff." Though as we reported early, the director of ZOE 2 is taking a heavy role in MGS4 development.
While the trailer being demonstrated was built off the PS2 Snake Eater engine, which Kojima says is not at all indicative of planned MGS4 quality, it still gave us a good sneak peak at what the game will eventually be.
MGS4 will take place several years after the conclusion of MGS2 and will feature an online battle mode. Conceptually, the game follows the idea of "nowhere to hide." What this means for gameplay, we do not yet know, but it could spell a more action-oriented, run to survive type of experience.
"You can run, but you can't hide." You dig?
We also know that a few favorites from the series will make return appearances, including Meryl, Otacon and Revolver Ocelot. Thankfully, Solid Snake will this time be the main character, though Kojima hinted that Raiden might still make an appearance.
Interestingly, Metal Gear Solid 4 will include Metal Gear Ac!d 2 connectivity. What this entails, we don not yet know, but plugging our PSPs into our PS3s is certainly an exciting prospect.
Ed's Quick Impressions:
Nothing. They didn't show us anything. But about Subsistence... I don't know. I think it's really cool. Basically, it has things for fans of the series that will make them really want to play more -- the Snake Theater and the ape battles. There's also a lot of features for more people. The 3D camera mode is basically for all the whining bitches who won't play the game. Now they can.
Jeremy's Quick Impressions:
I thought it was one of the most bizarre trailers I've ever seen. Though I thought the concept was definitely a cool one -- the idea of watching Solid Snake fighting for position in his own game was kind of neat -- the unusual color scheme and the addition of a laugh track was a little out there. Yes, there was a laugh track. That said, I did like the additions Konami said would be made in the game and I'm intrigued about how they can make a stealth game work when there's "no place to hide."
Kojima plans to demonstrate actual PS3 footage of MGS4 next year, which we expect will totally wow us. Expect more detailed impressions shortly.
Of course, MGS4 on PS3 is a completely different product than Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence on PS2.

MAN!! that was the best trailer i've seen ever!! (next to the legendary mgs2 trailer that is). Even though the techinal aspect of it wasn't as impressive as the ps3 demos, it was just so captivating. I mean from the production values of a simple trailer alonel, i can't imagine mgs4 going wrong. It made me realize once again that its not graphics that really matters.
Its just plain magic how Hideo Kojima can promote his games like that. It's pure art, not like microsoft's blatantly obvious "we want to make money by brain washing the public and pretending we are hip and cool cuz we pay pop stars so they pretend they love us and our xbox" and sony's habit of over estimating their hardware. Kojima's got style and he once again made himself the best damned person in the gaming industry in my opinion.
Also have you guys seen the MGS3 spoofs in their official website? you have to go through a series of MGS3 related quiz so they can make sure u've beaten the game cuz the spoofs contain spoilers. They are just absolutely hilarious. Just watch the one called Metal Gear S.... I'm not gonna spoil what its about for your own good.

Anyways i just realized they would be making their own engine to develop MGS4 on so there'd be no way the game would appear in this E3. Nobody wants a MGS game that looks and feels like all the other games in the market right?

Not to mislead anyone, but I don't think Kojima will be as 'hands-on' as he was with the previous 3 installments. I think Konami and the Fans simply relize that he is a (if not THE) key factor in what made those games as great as they are, and that's why he is being asked to overlook the operations of the new installment. When I find out more I'll keep you posted (no pun intended).

Ok Good news is that Mr.Kojima is back in the mix and now life is good :D .I just hope we dont have to wait untill E3 2006 to get some footage but maybe something before would be nice to remind the fans that it is near.
The Bad new(at least for me) is that it will take place after MGS2 :(.Now i know what you guys are going to say"Dont judge a game you have not seen" or something along those lines but as a huge MGS fan myself i just see too much potential from where MGS3 ended to where MGS1 started.I have stated in past posts why that is the case.
Maybe it could be the fact that MGS2 left a bad tast in my mouth when it came to story line and bosses.I played it once and never touched it again unlike MGS1 which i have completed like 15 times and MGS3 around 4 i believe.
All i ask of the team is a game based around story lines first then characters then graphics as priority then whatever else is in Mr.Kojima's head.I just dont want then to try too hard and make another MGS2 where it seems too much nonsense is thrown in.
Sorry if i offend any hardcore MGS2 fans but that is just my take on that game but i have been a hardcore fan since i played it on the NES so many years ago.Damn im old.lol
i think the reason mgs1 felt so good is that it didnt' have that la li lu le lo non sense pasted all over the place. It concentrated on snake and his adventure. Kinda like how HL2 didn't feel as good as HL1 (in my opinion anyways) cuz HL1 as all about Gordon escaping from Black Mesa and saving the world. Also MGS1 had the most likeable female protagonist which i think is really important.

MGS 2' Story > MGS 1's Story.
End of discussion because I'm always right 8).
Back on topic:
I was kinda hoping to see some MGS3 footage this year, but I guess it just shows that MGS3 won't be a launch title if they're planning to show off "footages" during E3 2006. This brings back the age old question: Will PS3 have a solid launch lineup? I hope so....
well, it is a given that huge demanding games won't likely be at launch- games like MGS, GTA, GT, etc.
I will even be surprised if it came as early as 6 months after the launch.
but I still believe there will great titles. it is a tradition to have such launch games as Tekken, Ridge Racer and the likes. Sony didn't rush the release as they confirmed it will be in 2006.
maybe we'll have PS3 footage of MGS in TGS?

this info was on a japanese gameing mag and it interviews Hideo Kojima.
(its not very good, but its the last news about MGS4 until TGS! )
First, the juicy bits on MGS4. Kojima, sadly, doesn't talk too much about the game but He is willing to reveal that the game is set in the future. "Players will be taken to places to which the series has never before gone", Kojima states, asking that fans use this "hint" to picture what will become of the game
curiously though... where is a place MGS hasnt been?
we got: alaska, off shore oil plant, ship, inside metal gear ray, in the past (1960's),
so this means things like...Open city, desert, under the sea
what do you guys think?
space!! Snake will have to invade an alien fortress orbiting earth who are threatening to destory the earth! And there'll be no place to hide cuz aliens, being aliens, can see through walls! The truth behind the super powers of the villains of the MGS saga will be revealed!!
Seriously speaking, desert seems plausible but i think it's gonna be visually bland which goes against the philosophy of next-gen

ah yes! thats the "deformity" I saw, hehe. Its definitly a baby...and it would make sense if its Olga's child.
SPOILER
some backstory on Olga (from http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/file/metal_gear_solid_plot.txt)
First, Olga confirms she is the Ninja. She add's that being the leader of the
Russian troops is nothing but a cover. She was sent in, by the Patriots, to
provide support to Raiden. The reason she betrayed her troops, and helped Raiden, is because her child is being held hostage. After the death of her father on the Discovery herself, and her troops, went in league with an illegal Russian organisation that ended up being allied with the Patriots. Her baby was kidnapped when she gave birth in a hospital run by the Patriots.
Raiden ask's her about Snake - are the two of them enemies?
"He wasn't responsible for my fathers death. Actually, we owe him our lives..." Olga's mind goes back to the incident on board the Discovery two years ago. She had been prepared to kill Snake. "Two years ago they were responsible for getting us out of the sinking tanker alive" she explains "You were partners since the incident?" Raiden asks
"No. I only found out the truth shortly before this. When I confronted him here around the time you were holding hands with that girl."
Olga explains she allied herself with Snake for "mutual gain" If Solidus gets away with Arsenal, she says, Raidens mission is a failure. That means Olga's mission, to support Raiden, is a failure to. Her child would be murdered. "Putting it simply, my childs life depends on your success" she adds. Raiden ask's Olga exactly why he is being used, and she explains that he is a pawn for something called the 'S3' plan. She refuses to explain what that is, citing the little time they have. Solidus could attack at any minute and has to be stopped. Raiden asks about the virus, and is told nothing has happened so far. Its quite likely the Patriots tampered with the program. She does not know if it will end up working.
Hmm. So we might get a subplot about Raiden rescue-ing Olga's kid?

ok guys, heres some more official info on MGS4:
there is an interview with Hideo Kojima on gamespot where he states the following:
Kojima told the audience that the trailer contains plenty of Easter eggs that would be hard to catch on first viewing. Watch it early, watch it often
from re-watching the trailer countless times ive come up with the following ideas:
1)In the trailer, the colours and the atmosphere suggest a desert-like environment (yellow ground, orange sky etc.), while the wall may suggest a destructable city :?:
2)Just before he reaches the circle of chairs, Snake encounters a line with the word STOP on it, and stops, while the enemies progress. I'm not quite sure what this may mean :?:
3) The circle of chairs itself reminds me of the idea of the Patriots (could they finally be played against :?: )
4) When snake defeats Raiden he lights up a cigar instead of a cigarette
(remeber solid snake smokes cigarettes, Big Boss smokes cigars)
what could this mean :?:
5) The final battle between Raiden and Snake over the chair may suggest a battle against each other in the game :?:
6)When snake sits down a butterfly flys off the chair. this happens in MGS3 when the end dies and when snake looses his eye (shows the characters feelings and strenght), what could this mean :?:
Sorry for the long post, but knowing Kojima and the weird stuff he puts in his games i had to write this to share the things ive spotted.
what do you guys think?

Whoa, hold on! Didn't Meryl die in MGS1?
There's two endings, the one where everyone lives and meryl rides away with snake is the true ending. The otacon ending is the 'alternate' ending.
and, in order,
Vamp (bullet hole in his head)
Meryl-whoo!
Raiden (Sword that olga gave to him) and his 2 year old son. Note that olga's child would be at least 3 or four by the time mgs 4 takes place.
Ocelot-you know he's in it
Snake-woot, main hero. but he needs to shave. it's not cool anymore.
Otacon
Big Boss? (my best guess)
and...some chica. hopefully a new character, cuz new characters are great. recycling is for hippies.

this info was on a japanese gameing mag and it interviews Hideo Kojima.
"NO PLACE TO HIDE", when i heard this i thought it has to be a crowded city scene. Because you cant hide when the whole city, not to mention the people are around you everywhere.

On G4TV one of the hosts was talking about how Hideo Kojima likes to "manipulate and play" the fans of the series and i agree,my opinion is that this "no place to hide" comment is not going to be about level design or the environment it takesplace in.
I believe that comment has to do with the plot of the story like you cannot hide from your destiny or emotions or fate.Hideo Kojima is a very smart guy and he would know that making a statement like that would have us all thinking the game environments.

Did anybody actually confirm when MGS4 takes place? Rose was pregnant at the end of MGS2, so it could be Olga's, it could be his/Rose's. Those who caught the 2D picture of Vamp at the end of MGS2 (it helps if you use the Document of MGS2 to move the camera around) will probably already have a good idea about Vamp's return. As for the mysterious eye-patch guy, it's either Big Boss or Solidus. Big Boss is kinda the natural choice, given how he looks in the face and the frailty of the body, he may not even be a character, this artwork could just as easily be indicating his involvement to the same level as MGS1 (where he was only referred to). I'm almost positive the girl on the right is Naomi. Snake busted her out of jail in between 1 & 2, so I'm pretty sure it's her. It sure doesn't look like Rose
Lastly, and I'm going out there for this one, but I remember there was always a member of the Patriots/Philosophers that they pictured who looked a little like Big Boss minus the eye patch. That guy is also dead, so who knows, it's always an option :P

heres a confirmation article from a japanese magazine ( i think this confirmed list of returning characters is allso on the official MGS website)
In this month's Famitsu (Japanese magazine), the character list from the recently released Metal Gear Solid 4 promotional art was confirmed as the following:
(In order from left to right)
- Vamp
- Meryl Silverburgh
- Raiden
- Revolver Ocelot / Liquid Snake
- Solid Snake
- Hal "Otacon" Emmerich
- Big Boss
- Naomi Hunter
so there you go. (allso the baby in raidens arms is allso confirmed as his and not Olgas (which would be 5 or 6 in MGS4)

I'm just trying to think of how kojima's going to fit big boss into all this, since this is set in like 2000 upwards that would make him like 70-80 years old.
I'm speculating that his picture (where he looks nakedish) is acually like a thin exo-suit that increases his strength or something. I don't think kojima will turn big boss into some feeble old man like the end, I'm guessing (and hoping) he will remain the CQC badass he was in mgs3.
and on that note will snake know CQC in mgs4? because he didnt know it before.
and will johnny (my hero) have a cooler role in this game? or will he be the pants crapping guard hes always been. (he's my hero all the same)

NakedJohnny, MGS2 took place in 2009/2010 (cant remeber wich one exactly) and ive read an official statement that MGS4 will take place 3-4 years after the events of MGS2. (ill have to find the article again to confirm the exact years.)
As for Big Boss, Well i agree with you
-he should not be weak and frail
-he should have some sort of suit (no more male nudity  )
-he should teach solid snake CQC :!:
-i hope Johnny Sasaki (sp?) will make a return.
EDIT-- from my above post. The butterfly is seen in two places
1.When snake and Eva are in the Cave.
2.When snake plants the last of the C3.
(not what i said about The End - Sorry ppl  )

I'm not really thinking of him as being alive, I mean MGS1 refers to his corpse (since he died in 1999 after the uprising at Zanzibar Land, that would put his corpse at 10 years old in MGS2 which was 2009) like it's just "remains." I didn't figure there was much left of him

maybe the patriots will somehow "revive" or clone him (Big Boss) again or maybe it will be nothing like that...who knows?
...i mean, Kojima is writing the game so im not worried about it not being something completely incredible

Gamespot has PSM listed as doing an article about MGS4 on 7/01 . Is this just an E3 issue with the same info, or could we be seeing new info? I'm real excited to see anything about this game since I'm the biggest MGS fan you'll never meet ( :P ) so if anybody's got that issue yet, let spill anything new!
