I will say this: many predicted a lot of the very samethings on Sony's end when Microsoft entered the console arena, and all of them turned up wrong when it was all said and done. Infact, they were way off. Instead of Sony lagging behind Microsoft, they dominated this genrration without question. I wouldn't rely too much on their opinion.

Furthermore, I honestly don't see Microsoft's Xbox becoming the next Dreamcast. However, though, I do see them fighting the most difficult competitor they had ever gone up against before. Sony is one the only companies that are capable of taking on a company like Microsoft due to their massive size and established position in this market.

If Sony was to underestimate Microsoft, that would be a bad move. Microsoft has more than enough funding to take on Sony. But then again, neither should Microsoft underestimate Sony; these guys have their hand in just about every single pot. The most Sony could do is persuade developers. So if Midway doesn't support the Xbox, well that 'll just be bad news since I really enjoy a lot of their titles, especially the MK series.

So true, sony is the market leader and if they were to get ahead of themselfs, then they would leave a hole big enough for MS to come in and take the #1 spot, and history always repeats itselfs, because Sega and Nintendo both underestimated Sony and we all know how that turned out.

As for midway not supporting X360 all it means is that there games won't be ready for the launch of the system, because PS3 is launching fall 06 it should give them enough time to develop a game in time for the PS3 launch window.

Here's one of the games that midway has in development for 360.

not even a remake. it is a direct port of FF11 with NOTHING new or special.

as for PS3 support, it is enough that SE said that PS3 will get "full" support from them.

Out of that list, only Factor 5 have announced support for PS3, the other 2 are uncertain at this time.

Come on, the only reason the Dreamcast failed is because of pirated games. Sega lost money with each system they sold, since hardly any one bought games. I know people who had 70+ games, not a one of them bought. Not saying they would have beaten the PS2, but alot of people think the PS2 ran them out of town, and that's simply not true.

Sega had financial problems so they ended Dreamcast themselves. They simply couldn’t go on with any more hardware. They had a terrible record for the past few years leading to them stepping out of the hardware business. If Sega was in its prime, we would still see their hardware and unique software just like Ninty now.

too bad. I LOVED sega!
atleast their spirit still lives on on other systems.

When saturn launched they had la total of seven different platforms(consoles/portables) currently out.
Thats just a deep hole if you ask me....

There were also some internal conflicts amongst the "higher ups" regarding its actual market readiness

Sorry, buddy, but the PS2 was the force that expired the Dreamcast/Sega from the hardware war. Sega said it themselves in a thirty minute interview. I wish people would stop denying it and give credit where it belongs. The Dreamcast was not only doing good, but it was doing EXCELLENT until Sony annouced the PS2.

It sold REALLY WELL the first three weeks of launch or so, then abrubtly vanished forever...
I actually think they hit a few records(revenue or units sold) - within X amount of time of course

You are right... Dreamcast did do VERY well for the first few weeks of it's release, but the problem was that it had virtually zero marketing after that. Sony turned on the hype machine and ran wild in the market place making sure the only thing people see or hear was Playstation2. Sega took a lot of critism for their lack of marketing follow up.

While the Sega systems might not have lasted long they always managed to have some of the most entertaining games out. Streets of Rage will forever be one of my Sega fav's.

MS isn't likely to make that kind of mistake... their "grand MTV unveiling" however cheesy it may have been is proof of that. They will show off anything and everything they can to make their presence known and not forgotten to the consumer.

And then when you find out the people making the OS for your console has now become your competition and working towards making their own machine you know your screwed.
