Sony controls some big MMORPG properties, as we're probably all aware (EverQuest and Star Wars), and they recently bought the rights from Warner Bros to Matrix and a DC Comics superhero based game. Now, we know that these later two will be coming to PC, but what do people think the chances are of all these games coming to PS3?

If we think the chances are high, certainly it represents an indication that Sony will make online play something of a priority this gen, or at least make it functional to the point that key publishers like SquareEnix require.

Personally I think it would be foolish for Sony not to make the transition, as monthly account fees on these games spread over even a tiny percentage of the PS3 install base should represent some decent revenue.

Would the 'hassle' of porting it to Cell prevent the addition? Or lack of keyboard, mouse, and or hard drive as standard?

Speaking of keyboard and mice, I could see Sony releasing a bluetooth keyboard/mouse set down the line for the PS3. Before I was thinking usb - and maybe they will - but now it just dawned on me; why not bluetooth? That should allow you to type/play/whatever from your coach while facing your HD-tv without the hassle of cords.

Just some random thoughts.

EDIT: ALSO, as an aside, you people may have noticed that the number of threads shown right now in the Playstation forums is absurdly low - I brought it to E-mpire's attention and hopefully it'll be resolved soon. If you want a more expansive view when looking for threads, go to the 'display options' on the lower left when in the forum and change it to something other than 'Last Day.'

well an annoucement of whether an hdd is bundled with the PS3 could very well decide how Sony wants to go with these MMORPG for the PS3. but the indications that has surface so far the couple of months about any initial hdd size not being enough shows that so is not heading into that direction of including it in and thus far not thinking of any MMORPG for the PS3 anytime soon. That does not mean that I don't want an MMORPG on the PS3.

Also the bluetooth will seem as the best way to go seeing as wireless is becoming stardand for connectivity this next gen.

I don't think any hassle of porting to the Cell will prevent them, if they were actually thinking about it cause if u think about it, not only will they be getting some revenue off the MMORPG, but also it will be giving the PS3 recognition as an MMORPG-influenced console which wil attract more publishers to it in that genre.

IMO, with all these great MMORPG franchises, they have almost all the resources to make the PS3 heavy on MMORPG and steal some of the MMORPG-focused xbox fans(not fanboys, cause no matter what they do, they woudn't switch ;-)).

Well, it actually has not been confirmed yet... Article (http://www.psinext.com/index.php?categoryid=17&m_articles_articleid=111)

Not that I feel the hard drive shipping or not plays a very large role in whether Sony decides to ship these games for PS3 or not.

It's already confirmed for the PS3 (it's one of the target platforms)

The default view age was set to the current day. Sorry about the inconvenience :).

Ah ha you're right Grandia! I forgot about that statement on their part entirely. I think that last paragraph in that article, more than Kaz or Kutagari's recent veiled online comments, is indication that Sony is going to take online fairly seriously this gen.
