an article and the confirmed list of exhibitors:

We're really counting down to TGS now: the dates are September 16 to 18. As always the first day will be press only, and the weekend will be open to the public, with free admission for elementary school children. The rest of you will have to pay a whopping 1,000 yen (that's about nine bucks). Now that's a friendly way to run a convention--why doesn't E3 do that? Then we wouldn't have all those sweaty fanboys trying to sneak in. They can pay their ten bucks like anyone else.

In any case, yesterday the Tokyo Game Show officially announced its list of exhibitors, which includes the big Japanese publishers as well as mobile industry leaders and companies from South Korea and Taiwan. TGS is traditionally focused on Asian games and markets, although French-owned Atari and U.S.-based Microsoft have also signed on. Nintendo will, as usual, be absent. Nintendo has not held their private trade show, Space World Expo, since its abrupt cancellation in 2001. Despite rumors to the contrary, no announcements have been made about Space World 2005. What's up, Nintendo? When are you going to show us the Revolution?

GameSpot reports that some next-gen games will be playable at the show. Both Sony and Microsoft are expected to exhibit playable versions for the PS3 and the Xbox 360, respectively. Sony will have to pull some tricks to get this done. Didn't they just ship their dev kits in June? And there weren't enough of them!

But the great Sony has little to fear on its home turf--all it has to do is give the fans a peek at the most highly anticipated game in Japan: Final Fantasy XII. Later this month Square Enix will be holding a private press party to show off that and several other titles. 1up.com will have a report on this, as well as our TGS report, so stay

it says PS3 will be playable...i doubt playable as in school kids picking up the controler and playing a lap of Formula 1, more like showing us people playing it (sort of e3). well thats my opinion anyway

Sony's said there would be playables at TGS, although they'll probably have them behind closed doors. Either way, the press and others that do experience the controller and the games will relay the information online, and thus a new wave of info will begin.

Personally, TGS will signal the start of next gen, since after that point the companies will be beyond the point of no return (hardware wise) and they'll open the steady stream of info for new games, features, etc..

strange that Ninty is 'traditionally' absent from TGS. why won't they take part in this important exhibition?
isn't TGS the second biggest game show in the world?

eh, I hope the Revolution is better then im expecting, because ive been a ninendo fan since SNES, and once PS1 came out, i didnt have money for a nintendo 64, and now that i got a job, BAM, screw M$, they weren't in the race long enough for me to feel that they are tried and true, unlike Nintendo and Sony... we shall see a TGS and "Spaceworld???"

I'd probably expect some CGI if that were the case. I don't think Kojima Productions has begun developing the game yet (as of E3). That would be a remarkable achievement if they got something together in just 3 months, though.

Hardcore, Tim Sweeney and Unreal got the real time demo done in 2 months using only the PPE of the Cell. Insomniac got quite a bit done for 1-8 and Heavenly Sword is in a similar boat. I don't know about you, but these guys have the skill to put out something great in a short amount of time.

And if not, we'll be seeing some CGI (which will probably be in-game, remember MGS2?).

Trailer is likely for MGS4 considering that is Konami's style. But let's not forget that Konami has other things to show off other than MGS4 and has the other MGS games and perhaps some other products they're working on.

There is one thing that is certain about TGS this year. People will be demanding a decent translation immediately!

If we do, it'll be short, really short. Though I think everybody who showed something at E3 is gonna feel pressured to show something at TGS, specifically the Japanese. I don't see DMC showing up, it didn't seem very far along. We might see Tekken, Namco are quick workers but it's hard to say how far in development they are now.

afair I read somewhere that MGS4 will be shown the first time on E3 2006, but maybe we get to see another hilarious trailer made with MGS3 Engine like the one shown on E3 this year.

I think we might see some more from Ni-Oh and Heavenly Sword maybe even I-8. (the game looked at E3 like up and running)

Well mostly, we will see games made by japanese developers for japanese market. So, I don't think we will see the same games presented at E3. This is what I am excited the most though! :)

Nintendo cancelled spaceworld and now goes on a tour around Japan.
I don't expect much from Sony I think they will hold back and do something after TGS.

No, TGS will be a perfect time to address the thirst for more PS3-related information. Sony will likely present the features of the PS3 (Webcam, online service, HDD, etc) and the price. Also we'll see another video of Killzone 3 and a direct confirmation that the Killzone 3 trailer is real. :) Then we have the usual games present in E3 (DMC should be present) and alot more RPGs. Let me put it in more finer words, RPGs WILL be unveiled in the TGS. :)

I expect most of the finer features of PS3 to be unveiled at Sony Gamers Day which should be around November, right? It'll be a nice little baby shower for Xbox 360's debut :)

Lol watch Sony pull something like they did last TGS. To occompany the japanese girls with PSP attached to their belts. Japanese girls with PS3s attached to their backs, and 7 guys around her trying to play a multiplayer game on the LCD screen attached to her chest.

Very true but that would be more of the hardware or the various special features available on the PS3. Since I'm more of a RPG fanatic and could care less about graphics, I see TGS as a bigger day since most of the RPGs for the PS3 would be unveiled.

Sony always leaves the price for last. You will only see PS3’s price a month or two before its launch.

Also we'll see another video of Killzone 3 and a direct confirmation that the Killzone 3 trailer is real.

There has already been two official Sony confirmations that it is real, along with another Japanes firm and PSM that it did ran as seen only @ 5fps.

personally, I really can't say anything as Sony completely blew me away with their pre-E3 sleeper bomb. will TGS continue on E3? or will is E3 enough for the time being? I really do not know what to say. I was thinking, like E3, they will be more focused on PSP and upcoming PS2 hits. may now they will do that. then again, Sony could surprise us again with playable demos. games like I-8, UT2007, 5th Phantom Saga, Killing Day Heavenly Sword, Fight Night and NFS: Most Wanted seem to have a good chance of being available for short, limited play.

in anycase, PS3 is still a bitter-sweat year away so it wouldn't matter if they have playbel, or good playble, demos at TGS or not. I would expect X2 to have everything ready since it will launch only 8 weeks later.

Metal Sphere
07-14-2005, 01:01 PM
Well, while there will probably be some focus on XII, they won't pay much attention to it. There might be an announcement of FFXIII and the features it currently has.

FFXII will have 200 playable kiosks at Square's show.

how can you say there won't be much attention to FF12 when you say there will be 200 playble kiosks at the show?

about FF13, you WILL NOT hear ANYTHING about it untill at least 6 months after the Japanese release of FF12.

....I said thre's going to be some focus at the Tokyo Game Show. At Square's own show, there will be 200 playable kiosks, essentially shutting up everyone that complained about little to no presence for FFXII at E3. There will probably be an announcement on FFXIII just like there was one for FFIX and FFX just after FFVIII launched.

BTW, Nomura isn't doing FFXIII, Chrono Trigger, FFVI and FFX director Yoshinori Kitase is. Square was probably one of the first to receive dev kits from Sony.

Killzone 2 was announced either shortly before or after Killzone was released as a PS2 title. This would logically make Killzone for PS3, Killzone 3.

It's for the sake of accuracy.

Capcom updated their website today with some IR related information.

Capcom has 10 PSP projects in the pipeline, one of which is stated to be Devil May Cry for PSP.

Capcom is only releasing 3 DS projects in the same time period.

Devil May Cry (movie) is still planned (so it hasn't been canned or anything)

Devil May Cry 4 will be shown at TGS and at the official shareholders meeting and there are no plans for a Xbox 360 release.

First TGs title to be shown , playable form ? maybe

Kojima and Takatsuka confirmed to present MGS 4 and PES 5

The Leipzig Games Convention will see Konami unveil two of its dream team developers with both Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima and Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka, producer on the all conquering Pro Evolution Soccer 5, teaming up to make it a German games convention to remember.

Kojima-san will be presenting the latest news and developments on MGS 4 and it is expected we'll see some first concrete details and maybe even a first actual gameplay glimpse on the new PS3 title. Kojima-san will be accompanied by Shinta Nojiri, director of Metal Gear Acid, so we may well also see a fleeting look at Metal Gear Acid 2 which is currently stealthing its way onto PSP.

Takatsuka-san will be making his European games show debut to give salivating Pro Evo fans their first glimpse of new gameplay and features of part five of the famous soccer series, which has been captivating us virtually every lunchtime since its launch last year.

And this event is scheduled for the 18th-21st of August, about 3 weeks before the TGS.http://forums.e-mpire.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Argh..quit playing with my head. Kojima was asked in his latest interviews about Zone of the Enders and he mentioned that after he was done with Metal Gear he would consider it if he saw interest in the games. Though it's possible one might be in the wings, it's safer to say that there isn't and save ourselves the disappointment.

At least we're going to get some MGS4 news, details, etc.. since we have next to nothing on the game. And DMC4 showing at TGS is great, seeing that it's spot at Sony's conference was far too short for my liking.

Not that I really care for Bandai, but that Gundam clip they unveiled at E3 looked incredible. No doubt that was CG, but pretty much every developer said that CG clips shown on the PS3 were representations of what they expect the final product to look like. If the final game looks anywhere close to what we saw at E3 than hot damn!!! That game alone would knock the wind out of MS.

Seeing as Bandai announced a PS3 launch title, I would expect them to show the game at the TGS (whatever it is).

I cant waite to see a REAL PS3 PLAYING GAMES. you may want to wait longer for that to happen. what's wrong with Devkits running them? a year of from launch is along time to see a small compact console running actual games.
