Speaking with tech-focused Web site Bit Tech (http://www.bit-tech.net/), a top-ranking Nvidia executive has alluded to a far-reaching alliance with Sony Computer Electronics. The chipmaker has already entered into a highly publicized (http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-15015-1278-4-4-x) agreement to supply the RSX graphics processor for the company's next-generation game console, the PlayStation 3.

Now, David Kirk, Nvidia's chief scientist and project lead of the division supplying the RSX chip, said the two companies' "deal goes beyond the PS3." Speaking to Bit Tech, he said that "so far, our relationship with Sony has been great. We have a much closer relationship and share a much broader vision for the future of computing and graphics."

Previously, Nvidia had supplied Microsoft with the GPU for the current Xbox. That relationship was scuppered when Microsoft picked Nvidia archrival ATI as the processor purveyor for its next-gen machine, the Xbox 360.

Kirk's comments to Bit Tech hint how the Sony relationship differs from what Nvidia shared with Microsoft previously. "It sounds cliched," Kirk said, "but Japanese companies are often trying to create a vision and make the technology follow that, not the other way round. We believed in that."

While Kirk offered no concrete details about what might be brewing, he portrayed the potential for upcoming projects optimistically. "The future is looking good," he said.

I knew this was coming after Sony annouced possible plans with nVidia in the distant future. This could be huge for a alot of their electronics - possibly even a new handheld, who knows. One thing's for sure, nVidia is going to profit A LOT more than what they were doing before while also tapping a wider consumer base, granting them more recognition.

I think this is old news, some people said they already begun the development of the GPU for PS4.

Well, the PS4 has probably or started soon just as the PS3 planning started a bit before the PS2 launch. However forget about the PS4, the PS3 hasn't even released and this system will be offering alot.

MMmm Imagine what the PS4 can do. It will be so strong that it will have its own gravitational pull due to its immense power.

both Sony and nVidia (why do we spell it that way?) have stated that their agreement is more than the PS3 project. it also isn't around gaming alone. we can see nVidia chips in Vaios, cell phones, TVs and other multimedia devices. this is certainly benificial for both. nVidia will have access to a huge, huge market thanks to Sony's wild success in the electronics reals, and Sony will have a great graphics partner to take advantage of in their products. it is a win/win siduation for both. I am very excited to see the fruits of this close relationship- the first seem to be abang (PS3)!

This'll mean the RSX will be something else entirely. If nVidia is so postive of the relationship it has with Sony, expect the RSX to be more powerful than Xenos, I guess.
