Are we expecting a little too much from these next gen consoles. Sure the new graphics cards and advanced cpus that Sony and MS are both displaying as being the greatest thing since cotton candy. These companies are promising things that are even leagues ahead of 3,000 gaming pcs. If we buy games that are anything less than the Ghost Recon or Killzone videos then are we going to be cheated. Right now its just one big media frenzy with every company promising to out due the other. Im trying to not get my hopes up but then I read a new article by MS/Sony saying that I can expect not only a great gaming platform but a dishwasher, toaster, and foot messager all for 300-400 dollars.

Ah, a man thinking with caution is a man not dissapointed.
In a way, I do believe we are expecting too much from them. It's part of why I like Nintendos lax approach. Think low and get suprised.

Im sure if we stripped away alot of the marketing bs behind both MS and Sony then things would not be any where near as impressive. I believe that a lot of this is due to neither console being out yet. Sure they are going to promise tera flop jet engines and general processing powerhouses but once the games hit then the numbers are long forgotten. If the games arent all they are promised to be (essentially just high def Halo2s and high def Gran Turismos) then developers have to think of a new way to innovate games beyond graphics.

That is the philosophy that Big N is already adopting. It's going to take more than better graphics to truly shine.
All 3 will still have great games, that's a given, but I too am curious just how much of the media hype will come to fruition.

Yes I think Nin is scratching the surface of further gaming innovation, but its going to take more than beating on a drum while a gorilla looks at me to keep me interested.

Agreed. Each of the big 3 have even stated that their platforms will be the one to usher in new innovations, paradigm shift, quantum leap, etc (take your pick)., but you know how that goes, we'll only know after they've been released.
....tera flop jet engines....
Hmmm...Never heard that analogy before :)

Well, just take a look at the RE5 shoot scan from a magazine. If RE5 can look like that, then Killzone is obviously not possible and we're just expecting too much from an untruely next generation console.
