Do you remember the time when you would almost get that sick feeling just from seeing a console because you wanted it sooooo bad. Well it appears that it is gone the last time I can remember having that feeling was with Sega Dreamcast. The advertising was done just right and everything. All the characters you knew and loved were all in that console partying "I am sure you remember those commercials" and then they would say "Its Thinking". Everytime I'd see those commercials a chill would run down my spine because I had to have it. This is also when I started buying game magazines just to see more n that wonderful Dreamcast and stare and drool over the pictures. Today in time though that feeling doesn't come to me its just "oh another console" they don't advertise them like they should everything is rushed out to make money no plan whatsoever. All I know is I want the feeling to come back and so far its not happening with this Gen as well what do all of you think about this?

It might just be an age thing. When your younger you're more effected by that kind of thing. That and nostalgia(sp?) can be quite powerful.

this probably shouldnt be in the gc/rev section, but its still a good topic. I have the same feeling about the revolution just because of super smash brothers online. I seriously cant wait.

no need to advertise too much since most of the consumers have the previous versions of the next Gen Models...plus its a while till they get released yet

I think Muffins already said it: if you were so eager to buy a DC at the time, then it was most likely because of your age back then. After all, it's a common fact that children / younger people can be more enthousiastic over anything compared to people of our age.

The Dreamcast was a great machine, but Sega's timing in releasing it was really bad. They got pounded down by Sony. They could have spent more time in developing it that it could have been more powerful than xbox.

None of the next-gen consoles are that appealing right now.
Xbox needs more Japanese games to get me interested. It also lacks a decent RPG library.
Revolution has a lot of promise, but it could go either way.
PS3 has shown me nothing worth noting.

I'm more interested in 360 (though, I'm more interested in Revolution). Not because of graphics, but because it looks like it could end up giving the same feeling as the Dreamcast. It looks like the Japanese devs are pretty much all over it.

Hopefully it ends up selling a little more than the Dreamcast, though.

I think the sony system may become the gamecube of this race. The reason i say this is ive heard developers are already having hard times creating games to the SONY standard. The 8 or 7 core bit things...cell design, whatever!, but its very confusing and hard to make games for. As for nintendo, it will be much easier and more basic. This goes for xbox as well. Sony expects gold and all theyre going to get is bronze. Nintendo said they will have many "underground" developers on their team, meaning more games and ideas from the little guys rather than EA and SquareEnix taking over. Sony developers may get fed up and become lazy with their games, thus making a bad game, and nintendo will be easy as cutting a cake, and have a HUGE selection of games and different genres and new ones never heard of.
This was alot of babble, but you should be able to get the idea out of it...

There hasn't been any advertising this gen because the consoles aren't ready to hit store shelves. It's way too early.
But, in a way, you're right. I look at the PS3 and Xbox360 and I don't see anything other than graphics and a price tag. I don't know much about the Revolution but I hope it has something truly Revolutionary... and even if it doesn't at least ill get my fix of next-gen Zelda.

I think there is not enough improvement in graphics and performance as well theres not enough innovation and what is being released today in time; which I do have to commend Nintendo on they take risk and thats what we need more risk. If people like Sony and Microsoft don't take risk then this industry will die off. Thats why I stay with Nintendo because they set the trend with their innovativeness. Just look at it Sega came out with their colored Sega Game Gear and Nintendo managed to hang in their with their old colorless Gameboy because people knew they were getting quality stuff where as if you go and buy a Sony or Microsoft game your likely to pick up a game and it be a piece of crap. Because they are in it only for the money whereas Nintendo gives you quality titles. And thats what we need more of Next Gen.

I agree with that statement in soooo many levels.

I do have to say PS3 does have potential but I wouldn't say Xbox 360 does. But yes it is just a pricetag slapped on the 360 Because I am pretty sure Xbox is no where near the end of its capabilities and much of the graphic work that I have seen on the 360 looks like it could be done on the Xbox. But another problem I've been nticing is these fools like Microsoft and Sony keep boosting up their specs and everything and technically they keep losing money on each one they sell because they don't know how to balance out the difference because the need to make the system affordable to the consumers. Whereas if you look at Nintendo they balance the 2 they find the equilibrium between the price and its specs. Looking at Sony this year they are looking to lose a lot of money especially with the new blu ray their installing "Not to mention the Cell". But the point is big price tag and no enthusiasm all they do is tweak the little thing they do have and never take a big leap off a limb and take a risk. just the same old crap. but I do have 1 issuse with Nintendo whats the point of making the system smaller I just want a system that can do the and looks nice on the shelf drop the size of things and get back to whats important.
