i playd the DS, and it was fun; ive heard of what the PSP can do, with movies and games and music, and then the iPod would be the safest route because Ive used one before.

If you chose anything other than the most expensive...
Find a friend who plans on buying the most expensive of those, and get that one. Then sell it to that friend at retail price while it's still in the box, and buy whichever you really want with the remainder and keep the extra money.

if your just serious about games, go for the DS. If you want to play games and listen to music, go for the PSP, if you just want music, go for the iPod. But before you buy either, look up the cons of each item. Battery life, power. capacity, longetiviy

My vote goes to the iPod (40 gig model if you can), simply because it is very expensive and you can buy the DS or PSP later since they're cheaper anyway.

The color screen is across the white iPod line too. I like the iPod not just for the music, but the data storage.

The watching movie files feature is pretty cool (though completely unneeded in my opinion), but if you're talking about UMD movies, don't waste your time. They're huge wastes of money.

why? shitty quality?
I don't think the UMDs are a waste of time like Phoenixphire7 suggested in the earlier post. You may not get extra features but it's good being able to good great movies in the palm of your hands. Well, the battery life isn't that great so I suggest you plug the adaptor into the PSP if you're going to watch a UMD movie. In the end, I think UMDs are quite good.

My main problems with UMD movies:
1.) They're expensive, and if you plan on seeing in on a real screen or already own the DVD, you need to pay twice.
2.) The screen, while large and high-quality for a handheld gaming device, is small and low-quality for a screen for movies.
3.) Battery life = teh suck with movies.
4.) All UMD movies are going to be full-length movies or close to it. I don't think I would want to stare at the little screen for that long while holding it still. There are stands, but almost anywhere you can use one you probobly also have access to a real DVD player.
If you're interested in an MP3 player, buy an iPod or one of the other brands. If you're interested in games, buy either a DS or a PSP depending on which yout hink has better games. Never buy a gaming system because of any bonuses it may have. Those are just extra.

main use Id get out of these objects are plane rides and track trips. iPod sound good? But I want Ninendogs!

Then do what I said and sell a PSP and use the $250 dollars to buy a DS ($130) and an iPod Shuffle ($100) and you'll have to pay only 10 extra dollars for Nintendogs. Once you've gotten a little more money, upgrade your iPod Shuffle to a real MP3 player, whether you want a full iPod/iPod Mini or another brand. Shuffles suck in my opinion, but they're the cheapest (I think) and they at least play MP3s.

dont get an iPod shuffle. If your going for the $100 range get this (it's so cool with voice recorder, FM and it's tiny size...and still has a screen!)>> http://www.walmart.com/search/browse-ng.do?ref=125875.244729+500500.4293868038&path=0%3A3944%3A133251%3A96469
it's the smallest in the world. Heck I kinda want one myself just to be able to say "I have the smallest mp3 player in the world!"

Though the lure of size and convenience is quite high. I gotta say, I like the idea.

having had a DS, PSP, iPod I can tell you that
-DS was novel
-PSP is a jack of all trades
-iPod...lets just say its been the most used. (and i still have it that says alot to me)
I love music. So for me id say iPod. If you want games go w/the DS...if you want everything but to do so you pay the price over again (ie: 2gb mem card) go w/the PSP.
The best choice I can give you would be ask for a CD (from the bank) instead. You'll thank the heavens later.

hmmm
yeah, seriously if you want games DS is the best choice. Im happy with my PSP, but i know for the rest of the year i wont be doing anything else but playing music and GTA on it. And if its for music, get an Ipod.

LMAO...good job Outlaw on only naming the cons of the PSP!
I personally don't think the PSPs feature of being able to play UMD movies and playing music is that great. It especially sucks when it comes to music. I mean, I borrowed my friend's PSP and I was listening to Music on it but it sucks. The quality is good but the volume can only go so high and it's max is pretty pathetic. This also is the same problem with movies. There are many other but most of you guys have already mentioned those (battery life, length, price, etc.).
Tried and true gaming is on the DS. And if you like Nintendo, the DS is a must have. Especially with games like Metroid Prime: Hunters (which is really shaping up to be something great), Mario Kart DS, Animal Cross DS and plenty more in the near future and games like Nintendogs, Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Kirby: Canvas Curse, Meteos, and WarioWare: Touched available right now. So yeah, that's quite a lineup. The DS is all I nedd right now.
Anyways, did you make your decision yet? And if you did what'd you get?
