Yep I just ordered a new (to me) Powerbook G3 Lombard.

Some info and pics:
Macintosh PowerBook G3 in excellent condition. This machine is a Lombard, 333 with a CD-RW drive!! It includes a brand new battery (as the old one didn't hold a charge well) and it includes Office for Mac OS X, adobe PhotoShop CS and Airport Wireless Card is also included and all is in perfect working condition. Machine looks beautiful, there are no broken plastics and the screen works perfect and has NO dead pixles or any anomalies of any sort. Keyboard shows minimal wear and trackpad shows absolutely no wear as we use a mouse with it. Machine has been rarely used and has been kept in optimal condition. OS X is installed on the system and works perfectly. Machine is quick and CD-RW Drive (internal!) works excellent! Shipping is only $20 anywhere in the US and is gauranteed within 5 business days, via UPS. Tracking numbers provided promptly. There are NO delays in shipping, all items are factory packaged and ready to be shipped. PayPal only please.

Needless to say its exactly what I was looking for. (notes, chattin, & internet)

Since im selling my PowerBook G4 to my sis this December I needed another laptop since I'll be using the cash from that to get a iMac.

So anywho I'm floating on cloud nine. Anyone know where I might be able to find a ZIP 100MB drive for this powerbook? eBay has nada, and i doubt someplace like new egg would carry it anymore.

Why even bother with a zip drive when a USB thumb at 256 MB is going to cost less, take up smaller space, and will probably be faster. It will still be sucking off USB 1.1, but, you know.

Newegg has a list of USB thumb drives. Sandisk's cruzier memory sticks are a nice line if you are lookings for a brand. You could also use the CD-RW features for storing data. I am not sure what apple offers in the way of "Drag and drop" CD burning and erasing, but Eidorian eyeing this thread, might.

We have a dead Pismo at work with a DVD-ROM and Zip Drive. It's a 250 MB one though. I'm unsure if it'll work. Get RAM lots of it. Max it out.

You can always try an USB or FireWire PC card.

So your going to spend 50$ or more+ dollars for a legacy zip drive with both disks and drive that will subject to mechanical failure, when you can get a gigabyte flash drive for 65$ here? I think the size an minimal price differance alone are worth it, not to mention smaller size, better performance, solid state storage, no drivers to install on windows and mac platforms to get it to read?

At at 55$

Personally, I would go with the sandisk.

Its your decision, but I really reccomend this.

I agree with Nuke here. No one uses Zip anymore, and thumb drives hold so much more. For $100, I got a 20 GB cigar usb drive, and use it religiously. Now I have a 250 usb drive too. Its an older one, and I have about 5-6 zip disk - collecting dust. I used them some at school, and this one place I used to work for that loved zip. But since then....nothing.

Now the trick is to move everything off your older Zip disk to your usb drive. See if you can borrow one, or maybe some older school machines have zip drive in them that you can use to transfer.

I have 4 external HD's, 3 flash drives already so thats not the issue. I want to get my info off my ZIP disks. (some of it is kinda vital)

So far I've had no luck finding a ZIP 100MB drive. Since i do have an open bay on one of my external HD cases I could put one there... but again i haven't found one yet.

I can find some on eBay, but of course you have to wait to win the bid, pay, ship, etc. Maybe a good option.
