Well, what can I say except that the good people at Google and I think similarly in many regards?

Just heard about this today, but apparently when you type the word 'failure' into Google, the first result is George W Bush's biography.

Well played Google, well played.

I don't see what this has to do with world affairs. Maybe it should be moved to the madhouse?

Well, it's really a freedom of speech/social protest issue - so no, indeed I think it belongs in World Issues. Afterall, this is basically Google as a corporation making their disdain for George W. Bush known.

That's a cool pic though.

Looks to me like you're trying to start a flame war by trolling this in World Affairs.

From what I'm gathering, Nagin and Blanco messed up far more than anyone.

Bush mandated the area a Federal Disaster area an unprecedented period "BEFORE" the actual disaster happened. After that, all decisions and executions are made by lower levels of government.

Bush jumped in front of everyone to respond. Hell, he didn't respond, he answered before the question was asked.

I'm ran over a garden hose with the lawn mower today, its Bush's fault.

I'm not interested in defending Blanco, because I think she's something of an idiot herself, but to her credit, she *did* declare a state of emergency - also before the hurricane struck - on August 26th.

So it wasn't just Bush getting the jump on things.

And do president's manage emergencies from their ranches while on vacation? If he thought that the hurricane was going to be a real disaster area, he could have cut his vacation short before the hurricane hit as well, to be ready for preemptive photo ops. That lack of photo-op preperation has hurt him.

By the way, I don't think the hurricane is Bush's fault (why are people even using those lines?). Rather, I think Bush is one in a cast of characters collectively responsible for letting New Orleans down; both Republican and Democrat. But, I'm not one to think he gets off blameless for the slow federal response either. He is the leader afterall - and if the leader of the federal government isn't addressing personally the greatest crises his nation faces at any given time, well then what is he doing?

Also if the government was really taking the whole 'Disaster Area' thing seriously, then I'm sure we should have seen a stronger response prepared by the likes of FEMA than the one we did.

No, presidents don't manage emergencies at all. That is why we have FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and the Department of Homeland Secutirity.

Management is their job, not the presidents. Anyone can say he's their leader all they want but that simple, basic government structure.

Nagin, and NO, had a fully desinged evacuation system created only 8 months before katrina struck and they even tested it a few weeks before it struck but guess what? They didn't use it even after Bush called Nagin and urged its' use.

National Guard is under Blancos control. They arriced late because she called them in late.

Three "state and federal officials" are saying that this is all because Louisiana didn't ask for help. (Source: Washington Post, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dy...090301680.html).

Meanwhile, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson offered Blanco help from the NM National Guard on Sunday (the day before the hurricane hit), and Blanco accepted, but the paperwork needed to get the troops out didn't come from Washington until late Thursday.

Well like I said, I'm not defending Blanco. Her career can end right now for all I care. But for the reasons I stated before, I feel the federal government did just as bad in terms of response-time as Blanco and her crew. It may be FEMA's responsibility, but that being said if this was even just a suicide bomber in a New Orleans mall, I would expect Bush to be all over it from day 1 in a big big way, ready to smoke the perps out of their holes. What the hell is Homeland Security's answer to a nuke or bio attack in an American city? I certainly have no confidence in their ability to respond.

Also Louisiana being slow to respond to the offers of aid from other states and such is no different really than the US' slow response (non-response?) to offers of aid from foreign countries. And the reasons given by each are the same: 'too many chefs in the kitchen,' so to speak. Are those valid reasons? I don't know. But something went wrong.

My take?

Too many people waiting for answers from too many poeple.

As you said, "Too many chefs in the kitchen" but with this, each chef had to answer to each chef.

When everyone is waiting on everyone, nothing gets done.

Ah, bureaucracy. It killed governments before and it will continue to do so in the world.

In regards to that thing with google, I find it odd, but hey, the whole thing is generated on hits. What are you going to do?

^ True.

It isn't neccessarily a failure on Bush's part. His whole presidency has banked on major decisions being his alone. It's a failure of the extreme central government in general.

Not to mention his staff being afraid to tell him he's wrong.

If you type failure into Google, sure the first result is Bush's biography, but the second result is Michael Moore's website.

Since Google is liberal and gives money to the left anyhow this makes this kind of stupid. However I bet if you put John K. Kerry in google it shows sites with happy gardens, rainbows, and communist brainwashing meets.

Nothing out of the norm. Actually I read something that google block certain sites like Moveon.org and the like. There doing it in China and other countries as well.

The irony of the name MoveOn.org is amazing.

leave it to liberals to instill their politics into everything.

Ok I have to go in a second so I only read the first post.

But this isn't Google's fault.

I read an article on about how people do this, they search for a word then get it to go on GWBush's profile, after doing this over and over Google's systems put it at number one because it is a high request.

Dig it?

Thats just rediculous......google is the most powerful search engine in the world!

China, and other more opressive governments, make sure that not all internet information is available to their people.
They are the ones that block certain internet sites
If you keep people from knowledge you can control them easier.

Google is NOT using their power to only release biased info to the world through their "liberal search engine."

AND, guess what the first hit was on a simple search of "move on?"

if you search for "french military victories" it will ask you if you mean "french military defeats".
