Matt Jones, get used to that name.
Many people, the media included, thought Jacksonville was insane for taking Arkansas Quaterback Matt Jones as their 1st round pick but not to play as a quaterback but a wide receiver.
The critics across America were amde to look like monkeys scratchign their heads and wiping the dribble from their mouths as Matt Jones proved what he is capable on the field no matter what position they put him in ass.
As a receiver, he caught 2 passes for 22 yeards, both key big 3rd downs. As a running back, he added 28 yards on just 2 carries. And just to flashback to the college years, last year actually, he went in under center for a snap and went 1 for 1 and 6 yards.
The Seattle defense was flabergasted and rightfully so. Rarely ever has one player spread themselves around on the offense as much as Matt Jones did yesterday. Reminescent of Slash, former Pittsburgh Steeler Quaterback Kordel Stewart who in his prime who used to show moments of Running Back and Wide Reciever talent, were mentioned by many fans and media alike.
The unpredictability of the offense and Matt Jones helped relieve some of the double teaming that teammate Jimmy Smith has had to deal with since the departure of Keenan McCardell to Tampa 4 seasons ago. Smith, at age 36 and many believed to have lost his talent, hauled in 7 passes, 2 fot TD's and 130 yards. That is simply the kind of impact Matt Jones will have. Even if he isn't making the play, he's a big factor in why the other guy can.
Even more confusing for the defense was watching Marcus Stroud and John Henderson on the field at the same time they were. Only run once, both Defensive Tackle powerhouses were checked in a tight ends but fortunately for Seattle, success was limited.
Jaguars Head Coach Jack Del Rio and new Offensive Coordinator Carl Smith are salivating at the possibilities Matt Jones will bring to the team and both claim yesterdays game was just the tip of the iceburg in the gameplan this year.
Matt Jones made a statement in his first career regular season NFL game and this young kid from Arkansas might end up making more than just statements but writing NFL history.
Meh, I was bored so I thought I'd write something.
