Rockstar Games announces that it will release a pack containing both Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City on PS2 and Xbox later this year.
Rockstar Games has today announced that it will release a pack containing both Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for PlayStation 2 and Xbox later this year. It's not yet clear whether the games will in any way improve upon the PS2 originals, but today's announcement is sure to please Xbox owners who, until now, have been without a GTA game of any description.
The PlayStation 2 pack is currently scheduled for release in North America on October 22, with the Xbox version following on November 4. We'll bring you more information on the games as soon as it becomes available. In the meantime, you might like to check out our full reviews of the PS2 versions of Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, which were released in October 2001 and October 2002 respectively.

While Nintendo is out there trash talking GTA in every interview, Microsoft is busy trying to get the 2 best selling games this generation on their console. Ninty needs to get their priorities straight.
Oh and Rockstar doesn't give a shit about GCN...all their big releases are PS2, XBox, and PC. Max Payne, State of Emergency, Midnight Club, Grand Theft Auto...GC could use games like that. Oh well.

I will shit myself if I see this game sell more than any other game on the PS2.

I fully see that happening.
This is just Rockstar trying to shake its money tree....again. Starting to remind me of Capcom with the Street Fighter series.

I actually saw something on another board that might explain it. Basically Sony and R* might have come to an agreement to give up the exclusivity of GTA3 and VC (now 1 and 2 years old) in exchange for a longer contract for more exclusive games on the PS2 in the future.

Miyamoto never has trashed GTA in any of his interviews. In fact, he praised it a lot in an exclusive interview with EGM. Complimented the focus on open environment, the focus on purely gameplay not graphics/sound/online. In fact, the only time I've ever seen Nintendo say anything to really downplay GTA is "Mario will never start shooting hookers" or something else about the violence. Get your facts straight at least.
And the rest of you clueless posters need to learn that Vice City and GTA III are on PC. I downloaded both of them from Kazaa and they work perfectly fine. I'd laugh if you payed 180 for GTA. www.kazaa.com

oh, so you care a whole bunch about nintendo, but you scoff the people that buy the games that keep those companies in business?

I actually don't want these two games to hit nintendo, cause the president or whatever is like "YOU'LL NEVER SEE MARIO SHOOTING HOOKERS" when he dosn't know shit about the game. Nintendo fans don't deserve to play 2 of the greatest games on earth. :D

I'll get it if it's like $29.99. And they update the Xbox version's graphics. Custom soundtracks would help a lot too.

I care about Nintendo, yes, but what has Nintendo got to do with Rockstar? And for the purists, why not just buy the PC version? I don't see how this is worth buying an Xbox for.

No one said it'd be worth buying an Xbox for... unless you're a person that just wanted a PS2 for those two games and were on the fence between the systems, GTA III + VC and Halo / Halo 2 is quite the line-up even if it's only 4 games.

Perrin Kapplan, Iowata, Dennis Dyack, George Harrison, and lots of other people from Nintendo have said shit about GTA.
Dennis Dyack just recently said something in one of his interviews like 'Kojima and Miyamoto agree, GTA is not the future'.
George Harrison saying shit like "Mario will never shoot any hookers" (pretty much saying that Nintendo disagrees with what GTA is about).
Perrin Kaplan saying Miyamoto would never make a game like Vice City where Pikmin drive cars and shoot each other..
Iwata blaming poor GCN sales on the success of GTA and giving a short speech-thingy about it at E3 (and soon to do so at TGS)...
Every interview with them they find a way to bring up GTA and say they don't like how its violent or they disagree with it or it presents moral issues or its bringing games in the wrong direction or some shit that looks at it in a negative way, instead of trying to get it on their system.

First Xbox screens. The game will run at a higher resolution than the PS2 version and has somewhat better textures. Not the improvement I was hoping for.... but an improvement, nonetheless.

I agree. Fortunately for me I own a PS2. This will be a Must-Buy item for me along with many others.

I hate it when Xbox or Gamecube get a port of a PS2 game and it ends up looking just like a PS2 game. By comparison to other GCN or Xbox games, the graphics suck something aweful.

i want to get an xbox for gta and halo series because even though they're on pc, i have 3 comps, but none of them have enough ram, space, and graphics thing. it would be nice if this was for gamecube too though, so i dont have to get a new system.

Question: Can you talk about the enhancements planned for the "Grand Theft Auto Bundle" for Microsoft's Xbox? Also, how long is the exclusivity window on the next installment in the series for the PlayStation 2?
Mr. Lapin: There have been several enhancements to the Xbox version, including a higher polygon model, enhanced audio, spectral lighting, reflection mapping. The game will look better on Xbox with these enhancements - it's not a straight port. With regard to the exclusivity contract, we've amended our deal with Sony. It will still cover the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series, but beyond that I'm not at liberty to say.
And because some of you mentioned it coming to the GCN...
Question: By amending your exclusivity contract with Sony, will that open the door for Grand Theft Auto on GameCube perhaps?
Mr. Lapin: Right now we have no plans to bring the series to the GameCube or GameBoy Advance, but that doesn't mean we won't in the future. There's still a period of exclusivity for the next installment on the PlayStation 2, but we can't get into detail on that. However, once that period is over we will be able to release the next installment on other platforms - if its financially prudent.
