So what effect does music have on you? Why do you listen to what you listen to? Vote, discuss, argue, flame, and most of all, enjoy!
I voted option one. I can never just "relax".

Music helps me a lot to help me relax.
If im all tense and stuff,or ticked off,I'll just listen to my music (any genre) and it makes me feel a lot better :)
I dont think I could live without music :(

It can calm me down or pump me up (or piss me off, i.e. mainstream crap). Its all good.

Music also comforts me while doing homework.

I went for no. 1, since it's true, and because I can't choose 2 since I don't do homework at home :)

Yeah mainstream pretty much sucks!! I hate that though, you find a bad ass band then a few weeks later they become main stream and start to suck lol.
I like music pretty much, just depending ont he type of music, if its like hip hop/pop It makes me want to kill those annoying high pitched voice non talented bastards. They dont even write there own lyrics and they dont play instruments.

Yeah, I really hate Slipknot, Mushroomhead, Static -X and all that nu-metal garbage. The band members are untalented, and their lyrics were written for depressed 8-year-olds who are angry because their parents won't let tham smoke weed.
BTW, just because a band is Mainstream, doesn't mean I don't like them. You know Opeth? They're pretty popular, and i still think they are excellent. A mainstream band only sucks if they sell out their sound to make money, like In Flames.

Yes, In Flames was good until they started making music to be sold. Anders doesn't even growl anymore. He just screams and the music is just like anyother mainstream nu-metal bullshit like System of a Down or Mudvayne.

mudvayne is good, and theres nothing wrong with slipknot. But i would rather listen to stuff that is better like unloco, killswitch engage, coal chamber, endo..

I agree with Mudvayne being okay, but nu-metal as a whole really bores me.

I listen to music a lot, especially when i'm pissed off after a fight with my dad. then i'll go upstairs, blare some hard rock or rap and crank the bass. i'd probably go crazy without it.

#1, more than likely. Though I do listen to it while I'm doing homework and such. But I've never exactly paid too much attention to my work - I just do it.
And some mainstream music is ok. I normally stick to Enigma, Orbital, Front Line Assembly, KMFDM, maybe some Portishead, Massive Attack then Daft Punk, mm.. Yeah. Those work well. :D
Music tends to work wonders for me. When I'm upset, it really calms me down and make me think more thorougly. I really doubt that I'd make it through life as well I have now without music.

It relaxes me. It makes everything thats wrong with my life go away for a few minutes. No matter what mood I'm in, I'm in a better mood after music.

Dumbass. It was Mark Twain.
I revived this thread because it is awesome. And I don't follow rules. Yeah, fuck authority punkfuckinrock.
Anyway, It's hard not to feel something from Mirah's "Cold, cold water". I'm always effected when I hear it.
Whenever I try to listen to music while I do homework, I usually end up just messing around with my playlist and getting nothing done.
So the first option for me.
I just love music.

While I have the chance, I would just like to point out that Massive Attack is not mainstream, they are just popular, and not in a bad way.
But that was posted a while ago, so you may have already realised that.
But I will rant on anyway.
'Mainstream' is just when a band makes music that sounds extremely similar to most of the other bands at the time, just because they think "Hey, that sounds good. We will copy them and be cool too!"
'Popularity' is usually used as an inverse relation to the goodness of a band, which isn't fair at all.
Radiohead is popular, Massive Attack is popular, The Beatles are popular...
It's when the two combine that they form an unstoppable force of crap music.
'Crap' being samey and unoriginal.
I do like Daft Punk though.
Oh, and I hope none of that came accross as a personal attack or anything, because I thought that somehow it might, because that's not at all what I intended, and if it did then I am sorry.

Number three, I suppose, but that isn't strictly true. I never listen to music in the car, and hardly ever when freinds are over. It's just something to listen to when I feel like it.
