I say Massachusetts.
Why?
-There is a Springfeild in Massachusetts
-Its nearby bodies of water
-Drving Distance from New York (They drove to NY in "New York Vs. Homer Simpson)
-The Simpsons ate at the Massachusetts table in the Japanese restaurant in "Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo"
Plus, if you look closely in Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington, there is a part where they show some of the states and it shows Springfield in Massachusetts.
Does anyone else have a guess. In "Behind the Laughter", they said they were fron Northern Kentucky and in another episode, Maude Flanders referred Springfeild as being in Ohio. So...

Illinois, because in the episode where Springfield gets in the record book for fattest town Homer yells something like "Take that Miluakee" (I really have no idea why that proves they're in IL)

yeah...valid points guys. I'm sure they don't live in an actual state. It's probably just a running joke.
They don't live in an actual state. (I love SNPP)

I dunno I think they chose Springfield for the fact that there are so many so there's no need to wonder.....

There's a Springfield, Oregon... which is very nearby, actually, but I'm very sure that they didn't set it here.

I'm pretty sure that they live in Springfield, Illinois. They set up a Simpson's replica house there (I'm not sure if any of you remember that or not). And the reason why he would scream "Take that Milwaukee" is because of the beer (I think).. Illinois is also right next to it.
So, I'm pretty certain that it's Illinois. :)

Hello??? Wake up people, there's a Springfield in EVERY STATE! That's why Matt Groening picked it... so we would all sit around and wonder which Springfield it actually is. Sorry to ruin the fun.
