View Full Version : Oh yea? Bite me!

When I was a kid adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning uphill both ways through year 'round blizzards carrying their younger siblings on their backs to their one-room schoolhouse where they maintained a straight-A average despite their full-time after-school job at the local textile mill where they worked for 35 cents an hour just to help keep their family from starving to death!
And I remember promising myself that when I grew up there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!
But....
Now that I've reached the ripe old age of twenty-five, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today.
You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia! And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how good you've got it! I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet --we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damned library and look it up ourselves!
And there was no email! We had to actually write somebody a letter -- with a pen! --and then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!
And there were no MP3s or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to go to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself! Or we had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and fuck it all up!
You want to hear about hardship? You couldn't just download porn! You had to bribe some homeless dude to buy you a copy of "Hustler" at the 7-11!
Those were your options!
We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal! And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the the phone rang, you had no idea who it was it could be your boss, your mom, a collections agent, your drug dealer, you didn't know!!! You just had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!
And we didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation videogames with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like "Space Invaders" and "Asteroids" and the graphics sucked ass! Your guy was a little square! You had to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win, the game just kept getting harder and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!
When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! A tall guy sat in front of you, you were screwed!
And sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 20 channels and there was no onscreen menu! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! And there was no Cartoon Network! You could only get cartoons on Saturday morning... ...D'ya hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK, you spoiled little bastards!
That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled, I swear to God! You guys wouldn't lasted five minutes back in 1980!!

Damn, that is hardship.
Moving....
Yeah, we do have it easy. You didn't have all the crazy gizmos and gadgets that we have now, but oh well. You just grew up in a time period that didn't have the crap we have.
But, I still send letters via mail to some people, I enjoy some Atari games (Galaga is godly), I hardly watch TV (so the number of channels doesn't really matter to me), and I hardly ever use the phone, so Call Waiting means nothing to me.)
I would probably last a lot longer than 5 minutes if I actually grew up in the 80's =)

wow. that was brilliant sheriff. i understood everything you said. cause i was there. i was born in 1980 and im 23 now. i remember all that. we didnt have cd's untill the late 80's/early90's. we relied on tapes and records for our music. i remember my dad buying a MC hammer tape that i wanted when i was like 6. i played that tape out. i might still have it somewhere. we had bands like Men At Work, A-HA, Toto, Genesis, Eurythmics, Billy Idol, The Police, Poison, Nelson, Guns & Roses, Reo Speedwagon, Cindy Lauper, Devo and the rest of the 80's bands.
i lived in cleveland, ohio when i was a kid. i had to *WALK* to school in the cold snowy weather. i never ever road a school bus when i was a kid. i always walked. i had to wear snow suits and boots. i didnt even have a backpack. i *CARRIED* my books in my arms.
as for toys, we had legos, gi joe, ghostbusters, transformers, coloring books, he-man, cabbage patch kids, garbage pail kids, light bright, glo worms, teenage mutant ninja turtles. i could name more but im not going to. i look at today's toys and there is nothing compared to what we had back in the 80's.
cartoons were the shit back in the day. like sheriff said, we had to wait till saturday morning for our cartoons. i would sit there with my cookie crisp cereal in front of the tv and be entertained with cartoons like he-man, thunder cats, ghostbusters, carebears, inspector gadget, dennis the menace, muppet babies, my pet monster and others.
we only had nintendo and atari too. those were fun and they still are. nintendo came out in 1985. i was 5 years old. everyone had one. i remember when my dad friend got one. we were over there watching them play it being amused at this new generation machine. super mario bros, what a classic.
does kids today collect baseball cards anymore? i use to. i also collected garbage pail kids. i had tons of books full of cards. i actaully still have them. man, i miss the 80's so much. it bums me out sometimes. all the memories i had back in the day. what can i say, im an 80's kid. i love everything about the 80's. i still listen to 80's music and i love it. i know this is not all i wanted to say but this is getting long. yea. you guys would have not lasted in 1980!
and btw, we had a Big Wheel! we didnt have them things today with the little electric motor in it. i cant think if the name of it now. but i went threw like 4 big wheels when i was kid. i would ride them down the driveway really fast pull a 180 or maybe a 360 with them and tear up the front wheel. and while im at it. sherrif, do you remember those bed clothes we wore. you know the whole body ones with the white footies? man those were fun too. you be sliding around on the floor or go on the top of the stairs and slide down on the stairs on your ass.

Hey, that wasn't very nice, and it had to do with the topic.
You had to be there maaannnn.....Yeah I know that's the 70's, but it's relevant nonetheless. You can't sit in front of the T.V. and be enlightened about a decade.

Sheriff, you're 25. This is still your day you dunce. You're young enough to do whatever you want, and old enough to do whatever you want. Sure we have it easier, but what about the people back in the 70's? All they had was Micheal Jackson.
So enough of the 'you have it easy' thing and just live. Cause 10 years from now when we all are in our mid twenties, there will be technology that we wished we had. There's nothing we can do about it, holmes. So relax.

I think he was joking with the post..at least that's what I got out of it...it was a mockery of how adults say those things.
Asarien
08-20-2003, 12:03 AM
No matter. He had it better in the 80's than we do today. Besides the technology.
Look at Silent Warrior's post. T.V. was way better. I still remember shows like ReBoot, Ghostbusters, Garbage Pail Kids, Darkwing Duck and so on. It was great. This was when I was really young.
Warrior and Sheriff also witnessed the birth and growth of mainstream computer interactive simulation, from simple consoles like NEs to complex ones like GCN, and GB to GBA SP. I wish I was born in 1980. School was much easier too. I bet there were no such thing as the SAT's until the early 90's.
Shucks, I can go on forever. I was only 4 by 1990, so I didn't understand the 80's until I was 10.
Jushiko

Man, Darkwing Duck, Reboot, and Ghostbusters were the best shows ever....
Asarien

So was Tail Spin and those Super Mario cartoons.
I feel sorry for today's generation. All the media feeds them now is anime. Stupid ones like Monster Rancher, Fighting Futons or some other ones.
Jushiko
08-20-2003, 12:20 AM
Yeah Tail spin was great, but do you remember The Sonic the Hedgehog Cartoons? Not the anime one, but like the serious dark toned one....I know that was closer to early 90's, but since we're on the subject of cartoons.
Asarien
08-20-2003, 03:47 AM
I remember there were 3 different versions. One was only with Sonic, the other was with Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, and the third was one when they were children or something, and they played musical instruments and sang. That one was with Sonic's green brother and pink sister, or something like that.
The greatest 80's cartoon was Transformers. Then Beast Wars followed up with another great performance. Then Beast Machines was rubbish.

Ah, that was Sonic Underground. It was 18 episodes long, I believe. The main characters were Sonic, Manic (green hedgehog), and Sonia (pink hedgehog).
Speaking of cartoons from the 80s, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was awesome (of course, that might be early 90s...I only lived in the 80's for 3 years)

My apologies. I thought you knew better than to say "I don't want to put forth the effort and read this" in a reply.
But Asarien is right.. 25 isn't old. You're eight years older than I am, that's about shit.

That show was horrible. Weren't they looking for their mother or some lady or something?
In 30 years, old people will be saying "We didn't have robots for prostitution, we had to go out and get sex the old fashion way from a prostitute."
Or at least, I hope... :shifty:

No, I'm not a comic book person. I tried to get into the Sonic ones, but there were too many of them and I didn't know where to start. So I gave up.
