I don't know how many people know about her... But she's my favorite author by far. Though, I like a lot of others, I just really love her style and what she writes about.

For those who don't know.. :D She wrote Interview With the Vampire, and while the movie was excellent, the book is much better. She also wrote Queen of the Damned, which the movie was a big depression, but oh well.

Though - Those weren't what my focus of this thread... I just started reading Memnoch the Devil by her, and it's extremely dark. I love it. Probably the darkest book I've read (at least from her). It's also more than likely going to become my favorite book of all time. If you like dark stuff - Read it.

But onto further things: Anne Rice, at least around the area I used to live in, was really looked down upon. Most people who think they're vampires, just got the ideas from her books (from what I've seen and heard, at least). In fact - They blamed her books for the cause of a few murders, where people thought they were vampires, and killed people for blood.

There are people who need to have blood to survive, though. I'm not sure of what the disease is called right now, but it's a lack of something in the blood, and they need more iron, and other things for them to help... So they have to have blood transfusions all the time, and sometimes for iron, they go out and buy pigs blood from farmers.

:indeed:

So, away from the rant.... Who else likes her? And has anyone else read anything from her? ^_^

Any opinions on my rant is welcome, too. :shifty:

my mom has like a lack of iron in her blood or something, but nothing with blood transfussions. She just takes a shot like every 3 months or something.

I muddled through Interview with a Vampire, and read a little of her soft-porn bondage laden book about Sleeping Beauty. I have -no- idea what she was smoking when she came up with that one.

But overall, I find her writing tedious and dull. Reading one of her books is like staring at a wall. She tries so hard to set an atmosphere and a mood, that it drags on and on and on. Like Ayn Rand, you have to -really- want to read what she's writing about, or you'll stop.

I have friends who absolutely love her, and you too of course Karavi, but I'd rather read something engaging, like books by David Drake, who puts old Greek and Roman stories (like the Oydsee and the Illiad), or other classical tales, or takes situations from the war in Vietnam, and puts them in a science-fiction setting. If you really read into his nuance, you see what he's writing about, and it's not just "sci-fi fluff."

But Anne Rice? No thank you, I will pass please.

^^hmm...I really like Ayn Rand's book's. I guess I'm really fascinated with objectivism. I've never read Anne Rice. I'm not big on reading modern books. Most of the stuff I read is classics and non-fiction. I usually read the classics and then try and imitate the authors style in my own writings. I particularly like John Steinbeck.

I always thought Ayn Rand was ok.

Anyway - I guess it's all a matter of opinion. What she gets the enviornment from is where she lives (New Orleans, most of the time), so you notice a lot of truth in it as well, as for setting-wise. Interview with the Vampire I thought was badass.. But the one book I was in love with for a few years was Pandora, I read it about 20 times over. :D I have no idea why I did now, either..

I have a wide variety of different books I like... Someone thought I was insane for liking Dante's Inferno (what the hell? No pun intended. :shifty: ) so oh well.
