Microsoft today announced that its Board of Directors declared its second annual dividend in its history. The Board approved an increase in the annual dividend to $0.16 per share in Fiscal Year 2004 from the $0.08 per share declared in Fiscal Year 2003. The dividend is payable November 7, 2003, to shareholders of record at the close of business on October 17, 2003.
As we reported last month, Microsoft had a $49 billion cash hoard as of the end of its fiscal fourth quarter ended June 30, double what it was three years ago, despite a generally weak economy. Its use of that cash -- whether for a larger dividend, a major acquisition, or investments -- has been a topic of much discussion by investors.
The payout will be distributed Nov. 7 to shareholders of record on Oct. 17.
