I was on a community service project trip with my school from UMass, 30 of us went in with the Dean of our school and some of his assistants to the Greater Boston Food Bank, http://www.gbfb.org
We sorted out salvaged food, threw out the bad stuff, and kept all that we could. In the end, we sorted over 23,000 pounds of food, 598 pounds per person. The total number of meals we made possible were 478 per person, or 14,000 or so from our group.
It was a great experience, we were all incoming freshman to the school, so we got to know each other pretty well while at the same time we helped out.
Then last night we went out to Fanuiel Hall, got some dinner and just walked around, we all stayed up late just chillin' out. It was wicked awesome, and definitely something I wouldn't mind helping out with in the future.
